Well he's racked up 289 wickets at 22.67 in ODI's and in tests 457 wickets at 21.77. I don't think he needs to perform with the bat with a record like that.

I never said that McGrath needs to get runs with the bat. I just said it is amazing that he has been playing ODI cricket for such a long time and has still not crossed a hundred runs with the bat. I am actually aware of the fact that McGrath is a great bowler, believe it or not.
