New Zealand in England May - June 2013

It's funny that NZ play all their big guns in all forms of the game where England's line up will look very different to either Test or ODI teams. Is that:

- a lack of depth in NZ cricket
- necessary 'rotation' due to the minor issue of the Ashes around the corner
- because England view T20 as a very different game and are picking 'specialists'
- or am I just bored?

- I don't think there's a huge amount of depth in New Zealand, there's likely to be some crossover between the forms of the game, but out of both countries only Brendan McCullum and Ross Taylor played in all 17 matches home and away.

- There's no doubt that Anderson, Broad and Finn were rested for the Twenty20s. They have been doing a lot of bowling already this summer and the Ashes are obviously the one we are preparing for.

- A certain number of specialists were in our side. Michael Lumb and Ben Stokes are unlikely to get into our ODI or Test sides any time soon but they are regulars in T20.

A lack of depth really. There are some players who don't play in both like Williamson, but even then in the past we've played him in them.

I think the difference is that we have limited overs specialists. England have a different T20 team while we have a different Test team, like only 3 players in our T20 team played in the Tests, and it was only like 5 in the ODIs.

I think it's a mixture of all things mentioned, plus i think the england setup views t-20 series' like this as ways to test out players at an international level, get a look at their temperament etc.
