Nov 25-29: 1st Test: Australia v England at Brisbane

I just don't want us to keep him in the team if he's averaging something which I believe someone else could come in and do but for longer than a year. I know I'm probably being very hard on him but I don't want to see us resting on our pretty decent results of late. I'm really excited about James Taylor, I implore England to give him a game in the near future.

Yea you are being way too hard on him. Since fact is since 2009 he has had to face, in his last 4 series. He has faced 3 quallity pace attacks in AUS, SA, PAK.

He was average againts 2 & very good againts 1. Not good enough for one to even consider questioning his place. Especially if you consider the bigger picture of what he has done in the ENG team since he became a fixture in IND 2006.

I dont have a major view on James Taylor just yet, but he is an interesting young bat. But surely Hidreth is ahead of him.

Colly's far from undroppable.

And what is that stat suppose to prove really?.

Regardless of what those averages say. its pretty obvious Colly has been wayyy better than Cook in that time period & definately a more assuring presence than KP in the middle-order.

I don't think I'm being "way too hard on him". Yes it'll be hard on him after the service he's given us but as the stats above illustrate he should definitely be worried about his place in the team. Especially while we have a number of decent youngsters who've done extremely well of late, Taylor and Hildreth for example.

They prove he's scored the least amount of runs for England? I also wouldn't say he's been better than Cook or Pietersen particularly; Cook has just scored a century in swinging conditions against possibly the best attack in said conditions. Not saying Cook is brilliant mind, he should be very restless of his place too as well as Pietersen.

Well yes no doubt he needs to step it up, given those guys are around (although i wont say they are knocking down the door hard to force him out, like how Ferguson & Khawaja are knocking harddd to force out North & M Hussey). But as of the current Ashes, his place his safe.

Thats just stats. You just had to have been watching Collingwood bat in test in that time frame to know he has been a more assured presence in the top 6 that Cook. Thats pretty obvious.

Cook has been batting on a knife edge since the end of the Ashes. He is the perfect example of you give a player enough chances he would score a hunded. Cook technical flaws that where first exposed in Ashes 06/07 have not improved. He is lucky Trescotchik can't play anymore or he would have been dropped like a hot potato a long time ago.

Same thing KP. He hasn't looked confidence @ the crease in test, since in Windies 2009.

Its interesting to note that you've called for Hussey to be dropped in this and other threads despite the fact that he averages the exact same and Hussey has given Australia a hell of alot more than Collingwood has.

Firstly i dont know why you chose to summarize just the last year of their batting form. Since the paths of respective batting form they both are going through are quiate different.

Hussey had been in decline since 2008/09 vs SA. He sort of saved his career as you member with his Oval 09 hundred & since then in series vs WI, PAK (home & away), NZ, IND he batted a little better, but it hasn't been all that convincing no nowhere near his form of between Windies 2005 - IND 2008 where he was averaging in the 70-80s.

I haven't called for Hussey to be dropped, like how i & most AUS fans have caleld for North to be dropped. I personally dont mind keeping Hussey for the 1st test, but North has to go for either one of Hughes, Ferguson, Khawaja.

But of course failure in the final round of shield fixtures & maybe early failure in the Ashes. Then Hussey will have to go too.

Collingwood however since his career changing innings @ Mutan 2005 has been a solid presence in the ENG test middle-order in the last 5 years. He has simply had mixed results againts 3 quality pace attacks in the last year doing well againts 1 (S Africa) & being below par againts 2 (AUS & PAK). Thus failure or slight struggles in the current Ashes should not warrant axing @ any point of the current series (although i personally am backing him to stand up when needed). Only until next ENG summer should this talk be around.

Seems Katich has a new injury concern they say it isn't too serious but won't know more until tomorrow morning. Quite the mess our Ashes campaign is in atm.

Although the NSW twitter said it was a tactical move having Henriques open but probably had something to do with the injury scare.

If Harris if fit I'd play the 4 seamers, as we have seen on both green tops the spinner had little impact while the wickets were tumbling. Looking at what the selectors have done though seems Siddle is a lock for the side given he was rested. I just hope hes on his game if that is the case as we don't need another leaker in our side.

Im kind of feeling bad for the Aussie selectors atm. Whatever they do they will be criticised. There is no way they can drop Hussey and North now they have stuck with them for so long and what the heck do they do with Hauritz? I see hes only bowled one over in the current shield match so they can't really base him on his performances of late.

I actually can't believe the shambles the Aussies are in atm. I am getting the feeling after all this they will win, because I think everyone is underestimating how important it is for them to be at home. Despite Englands warm ups I still think they'll find things pretty tough going.

I'm An Aussie fan but I can't help but lol at the Aussie selectors. No need feeling sorry for them they should have seen that coming.I would have been able to understand if they had stuck to one of Hussey or North but both? Its like kicking against stones and expecting no pain, those guys form were so terrible and now the team has sunk to 5th.I bet you the selectors are still convince the ranking lie and Australia are still in the top 2 teams and that Hussey is still a great player and North is the great batting/spinning all rounder that we need.
Me :Hilditch why didn't you consider the young bats who been knocking down the selection door down?
Hildtich: Cause its impossible for young bats between the age of 21-25 to deliver the goods.
This woudnt be his exact words but thats exactly how they think.

Rubbish. If the selectors didn't think the young guys could deliver, then how the hell did Phil Hughes or Steve Smith get debuts in the last year or 2? How does Usman or Ferguson get into the 17 man squad? Why does Peter George get picked for India, or Josh Hazlewood for the ODI series in England this year? You're just regurgitating the same boring old - 'oh the selectors suck' drivel.

If the young guys WERE ACTUALLY KNOCKING DOWN THE DOOR I might pick them. Usman's a young kid who's made some runs yes, but he's just OK vs spin, he's doing nothing in OD cricket which the selectors like to see, and he's done nothing in the last couple of games which was THE time to make your run and prove your form is good. Ferguson's made a century too, but geez his FC record is a bit patchy and to me he needs to prove he can consistently rack up 4-day runs. Luckily for the young guys though, Mike Hussey is doing as much as possible to be dropped. Marcus North still makes a random century here and there and has a good record v England - harder to drop him.

Yeah I am sure after this series Khawaja etc. will come into the side i just think so close to an Ashes they can't really go away from the side they have been building the last year. Even when they were in India they couldn't really have brought someone in then so close to the Ashes.

Btw anyone reckon Ponting will retire or something if he loses this one. For the aussies sake they really need to win because if he steps down as captain it will most likely become Clarke who is nowhere near ready.
