That's all very well in principle, but I see it as an un-neccessary risk. We're short of players already, why do we want to risk Hoggard or Harmison being injured as well? I'm quite intrigued as to who the selectors have in mind for the Ashes squad, with only the WK's seemingly done and dusted. This is a perfect oppurtunity to see who else can make the Ashes squad.evertonfan said:I wouldn't drop a lot of people for The Oval Test match; We need to show that we can be ruthless, so we should aim to make it 3-0, so we can well and truly avenge our hammering in the winter!

Failing that scenario (which is pretty unlikely) maybe time for Tremlett to be drafted back in.
I agree, Tremlett is the closest thing we have to a replacement for Harmison, I believe he's played well this season after recovering from injury. I'd like to see Jon Lewis given a go as well, just to see whether he can hack it in Test Cricket. Rather than finding out midway through the ashes.barmyarmy said:Failing that scenario (which is pretty unlikely) maybe time for Tremlett to be drafted back in.

Yes but I reckon he can be a good third bowler to have. A good bowling attack is one that has variety. Also on his day he can single-handedly rip through any battling lineup.evertonfan said:I don't think John Lewis is good enough for Test cricket myself; He just looked out of his depth against Sri Lanka once the new ball had worn off.

But full credit to Monty and Saj, and also the way England fielded today. Absolutely brilliant. First win since last year's Ashes, yes, but now we havent lost a test series at home since 2001 I think.
evertonfan said:But as for the John Lewis debate, i'd rather pick Glenn Chapple, but I do feel he deserves another chance though.
barmyarmy said:I don't think we can speculate too much about the Ashes squad yet when we are waiting on the fitness of so many players. It all depends on who recovers in time. That said if Vaughan isn't fit and Fred and Straussy are I'd give the captaincy to the latter. Not because I think he's a far better captain or anything but just because we want Flintoff thinking 100% about his game and nothing else.
