Well, there could be instances of England wanting two spinners. With the bowling injuries, they may need them. Dalrymple is a good all-rounder. He has done nothing wrong so he will be the first choice I would say.

I wonder if Monty will make the ODI side for vs Pakistan, will be interesting. He has troubled their batsmen, a few of the younger ones in particular.

I feel he can be given chance to be in ODI side also becos he is in nice form at the moment!!!

Monty won't be selected in the ODI's as the selectors know the tail end isn't particularly the strongest atm. They would rather prefer to use Dalrymple who did a might fine job against Sri Lanka or Blackwell.

Interesting decision for the One Dayers. Jones was in brilliant form yesterday, so he should keep his place as keeper. We've got too many players who want to take their time though. Dalrymple is fine but at number 6, we need to bat badly for him to be able to do well.

I would go with Monty. You cant expect your number 11 batsman to score half centuries and centuries. The batters from 1-7 are supposed to do that.Monty isnt that bad a batter either and can do the number 10-11's role in ODI's.His main role is bowling and I think he'll do a fantasic job with the ball as well in the ODI's if he's given a chance. From what I see he would be an excellent wicket taker and he wouldnt go for many runs either.

I'd agree with Monty in ODI's, atleast once or twice to see what he's like. Everyone who saw him against Muralitharan know's he can bat a bit. And I'm sure his bowling will stop enough runs to counteract any faults in his batting, not to mention the wickets he'll like take as if you try to slog him I get the feeling you'd get out very fast.

I'm not so sure on that. I agree he has the control, but he has no real variation. I think, that once a batsman gets his eye in and judges how much the pitch is turning, he could easily pick off a spinner such as Monty.

Like they were saying a few days ago on the radio his variation is that he's not perfect. He won't be getting the ball in the same spot every time so it'll do different things naturally. That and his speed makes him hard to come down the pitch against.

If you watched him closely in the last few tests, and you must have seeing that youre an England fan,you should have judged quickly how Monty varies his line and amount of spin on the ball. Its very difficult to charge him, just ask someone like Inzamam and at the same time some of his balls bounce and rip more.Id rather have someone who has such suttle variations rather than a good bowler who balls the same kind of stock deliveries and has one going the other way.Monty's variations are infact tougher to pick.

It was probably an effort by the Pakistani crowd to unsettle him, which obviously didn't work. A bit like Aussie fans calling Murali a chucker. No reason to take it so seriously. We now have a Pakistani and an Indian (by blood only of course) playing in the England team. All it changes for me is that now I will be cheering those two on against Australia.

It's a very good thing that players from the ethnic minorities are playing for England, we have a big based of Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans and Bangladeshis, it's what makes Britain what it is today. Helps to get more of the population involved in sport.

I played with a Sri Lankan, his family came over when he was about 6, and a Indian but he was born here, so he's Indian descent.

Both very good batsman and bowlers.

I agree but Vettori doesn't.

Monty has the quicker ball (62-5MPH) and a straight ball which very nearly got a wicket of one of the big 3.

When I saw Monty for Northants in either C&G or 20-20 mainly latter he bowled very well.

His Twenty20 stats are impressive, average 24.37.

List A average only 43.55 though, and that's only because of an excellent 5/20 for the National Academy against Sri Lanka A 3 years ago. He's only taken 1 list A wicket for his county, at an average of 215.

I'd pick him for the Twenty20, as spinners do well in that, but he isn't ready for the ODI side yet.

I'd really like to seem him in the ODI because batsmen will go after him and you can be sure they will do that in the Ashes. I'd like to see him bowl when being attacked and knocked around a bit because I'm sure the Aussies will do the same to try and break him in the Ashes.

We'll never know that unless he's given a chance to play a full ODI Series. Its unfair to judge how someone will do in a form of the game without actually seeing them. There have been many in the past who have been prejudged to not do very well in one form of the game, but eventually we find that they are most suited to that form.We know nothing of Monty in ODI's yet,so he needs to be tried. You never know how much the pitches will turn in West Indies.

It's about damn time Mal Loye got his call up. I hope both he and Glenn Chapple get selected for the final squad, and Stuart Broad too. Chapple, Loye and Broad should all play against Pakistan in the ODI's too, and Mal Loye should definitley open in the Twenty20.

Got to be cut to 14 remember.

Grav says the ones playing Pakistan will be the ones playing in India in October.
