Cork
Mascarenhas (He may have not socred a OD hundred but he does bat at the end and has 18 50s to his name.
Luke Wright (young but has done well for us)

or a spinning all rounder.

yardy
Dalrymple.

Clarke isn't good enough, his bowling does not put him in the category of all round status.

Not good enough bowling stats in FC and/or OD for me.

Mascarenhas has outbowled Warne and Tremlett at Hampshire.
I'm not saying that Clarke is the best allrounder available. He's the best top six batsman who can bowl. None of the guys you've mentioned have consistently played in the top order which is where we have a gap too.

Luke Wright, I was going to mention him before but I was afraid that I would get ridiculed.

Oh, and i'd have Cork over Clarke anyday.

wouldn't class him as a top six batsman either..sorry :noway

Jamie Dalrymple?

Michael Yardy?

Better batsmen in my opinion, and they can both bowl a bit.

Of course you would, because he plays for Lancashire!

Yeah sorry, I forget to put the :p in there! I said it tongue-in-cheek. ;)

I mean for this series. At the moment Dalrymple is in the side as the next spin bowler in the line. I don't think we'd pick someone like Gareth Batty over him if it was a straight swap on bowling ability. Read used to bat at Number 8 which leaves the gap at 7 in the order. Dalrymple is the spin option and it would be very rare that we play two of those. So ideally, we need a batsman who can bowl a bit. I.e. Clarke or even Bell. There is no one else really, which is why he is in the squad.

where does he play?
Sussex second XI's isn't it?

his stats are ok for a youngster...looks a bit like broad

That's what I was thinking actually! Graveney must breed our fast bowlers in a factory somewhere.

Well it seems that Collville and co. are chatting about the England team due to rain delaying the start at the Rose Bowl.

They make a good point about Loudon not being picked; He got run out without facing a ball in his one game against Sri Lanka.

I hope Ed Joyce does well after his injury in the Twenty20.

Well 8 I think, i'm no avid Sussex follower so i'm not sure.
I think he's normally at 9 at the highest in the CC team, sometimes sent in higher in the One Dayers. Doesn't seem to take wickets or keep the economy down though, which is a major problem. I'd rather see Richard Johnson back again. :P

Ah Richard Johnson! Now there's someone else that i'd pick over Clarke. ;)

Come on lads, back to the cricket.

How long is Blackwell injured for by the way? He could bat at 6.

He should be back soon. I think he may have played a game or two at some level as just a batsman. I don't think he could bat at 6, but even in a full strength side, he could bat at 7 with Read at number 8.
