The ball tampering allegation was precisely the reason against which Pakistan were protesting or am I missing something here......

I'm not saying I would, I'm just saying that that's the possible penalty.

On another note entirely who do people have as men of the series?
For me:
Andrew Strauss - England
Mohammad Yousuf - Pakistan

Without a doubt it's Mohammad Yousuf for Pakistan. But for England I would vote for Ian Bell. It's very hard getting centuries in the middle order instead of the top order, since in the middle order you sometimes need to get runs with the tail.

After that the match has been forfeited by Pakistan and England have been awarded the win, only one conclusion can be made, that Hair's comments about the ball tampering and his comments on Pakistan not comming on the field on time are being taken into consideration more seriously as to Pakistan's claims, that the Umpire had biased view. This clearly means that they are accepting Hair's tampering allegation. The match ends in this pathetic way and Hair gets what he wanted. But no matter what Pakistan suffers in both the situations.

That's what I thought too when I heard the news.

But wat Hair did is completely rong....he must be banned in the matches where an Asian team is playing...this is not the 1st time that this thing happened....Wats rong with him.....Wat Pakistan did is OK...but Hair shouldnt have done this:(.....

We don't know the full situation yet. And please cut the "txt spk".

It was the reason they were protesting but it wasn't the reason they forfeited the match. Hair's comments about Pakistan not coming out on time as you put it are more important than (and seperate from) whether or not the ball was tampered with as the match could still have continued if they had reappeared to play regardless of Darrell Hair.

I've added a poll for man of the series. Averages are here (doesn't include 4th test) and tell me if you want anyone else added to the poll.

No what Pakistan did is not ok, thats precisely the point. They should have made an official protest, which they probably would have won. What they shouldnt have done was sulk in the dressing room for 45mins then have the arrogance to think they could carry on as if nothing had happened.

Because a win is a win and it increases our rating points which helps us on our pursuit to be number 1 in the world. Yes it's shallow to accept a victory which has come in thsi manner, but like I said, a win is a win.
Judging by a large number of your posts saying "a win is a win" you would undoubtledly be proud if England won the Ashes if the Aussie team bus fell down a ravine and they couldnt field 11 men of international quality. You would be trumpeting your Ashes success istead of mourning the Aussie losses. Its just disgusting how you and some other people here are not concerned a whit about the broader implications of this incident.

we were ready to come out after the english ECB chairman has talked to Inzi in dressing room, and the umpire where just showing off taking the bails off, did'nt you see our team comming out and the people shouting stuff?

That Hair didn't wait long when they came the second time on the field. Just after some moments when the umpires took the bails off, Pakistan team got out of the lockerroom to resume play. But then they saw umpires coming back and went back again into the lockerroom.

I also give my vote to Strauss. He looked so desperatley out of form against Sri Lanka, but he has been consistently good in this series, and the two centuries were all in total-setting situations. It was hard to pick a man of the series for England because apart from Tres and Hoggy, everyone has had their moments of brilliance. I've even been sad enough to give an analysis of each player.

Andrew Strauss: Consistent performer and captained well. 10/10

Marcus Trescothick: Out of form personified, even his one 50 was fortunate. 4/10

Alastair Cook: A really exciting prospect but didn't always look comfortable. 2 centuries and an 80 speak for themselves though. 8/10

Kevin Pietersen: Got himself out far too many times, but his 100 at Headingley and 96 today were superb. 7/10

Paul Collingwood: An unsung hero as usual; A magnificent 100 at Lords and some really battling innings followed throughout. 7/10

Ian Bell: Gone from bunny to champion, really looked world class at times. 9/10

Geraint Jones: Exceptional with the gloves, woefully out of form with the bat. 5/10

Chris Read: Three very good innings on his return and no mistakes with the gloves. 8/10

Liam Plunkett: Below-par at Lords before injury had the final word. 4/10

Sajid Mahmood: Bowls some really horrible balls but when he gets it right he looks a real handful. 6/10

Steve Harmison: Woefully inconsistent but he would have made Ambrose jealous at Old Trafford. 7/10

Matthew Hoggard: Not at his usual cheery self, maybe the 38 consecutive Tests have finally took their toll. 5/10

Monty Panesar: Without doubt England's best spinner, and probably the best bowler in the series for either side. An absolute revelation. 9/10

Broader implications? What's so concerning about the implications the Pakistan team will get? If they are guilty, they deserve whatever they get. If they are not guilty, then obviously it is a shame the match ended the way it did, but they are professional sportsmen and shouldn't have sulked in the dressing room.

Whether Pakistan get done for the ball incident or staying in their dressing room, they are guilty of breaking the rules one way or another.

If you would bother to read some of my previous posts then you will find out that in fact, I have great concern over this matter.

Oh, and Australia can't field 11 men of international quality anyway. ;)

I accept that the Umpires are their to control the match but if they start getting biased like Mr. Hair obviously is and has been then there is not much left a team can do about it. Even if Pakistan's way of protesting was silly it was not such a huge blow to Mr. Hair's pride that he lead the match to such an end. Of course they didnt come out to play but for very obvious reasons and it is not the first time that some Ball tampering allegations have been made against Pakistani bowlers.

That's why they've been beating you guys for several years until the past series. :laugh

And this will wake some Australian fans.

just shows what a proud man Mr.Hair is bit of an idiot really and Pakistanis way of protest was lame to!!!

Well I respect your opinion and rating but as far as the man of the series is concerned it is Mohammad Yousuf. He lead the Pakistani batting from the front and has made big runs almost every innings. Pakistan just lacked the fire power in their bowling otherwise he had provided some good runs in all the innings he has played not only in this series but throughout the year of 2006.
