Pakistan in Sri Lanka - Jul-Aug 2009

Kaneria got some A** whipping from Younis and look what he has done. He gave the performance of his life. I think Akmal also needs to be dropped. He dropped another sitter in this match at a crucial moment that cost pakistan extra 50 runs. We need a genuine wicket keeper. I bet there are many guys in domestic cricket who can keep better than him. I Say drop Akmal. We need a keeper not a batsman and he is no Gilchrist either.

What the hell was Rana Thinking when he appeared for such a stupid Ad. Too bad many people here don't understand urdu/hindi. It is hilarious. Great Find Scion

I am sure that Pakistan will win the 3RD test they are in Good position. Can any body tell me that how many ODI's are in the Series

Yes they will.Another youg player Umer Akmal join the squad hope some thing special from him :sarcasm

Okay Herath is kinda blowing this game out of proportion. People are thinking that the favourites to win the match is Sri Lanka and I personally think thats bs no team has ever scored a winning total near 500 now you want a team thats 3 wickets down and they only have 2 batsmen left plus they have Angelo Mathews who hasn't scored a 50 in test match cricket. They have Dilshan who is injured and isn't playing as good as he can. The only 2 batsmen that can win the match is the two that are playing. For Sri Lanka to win Kumar Sangakarra needs to get 200 and they need another guy to get like 150. I don't care about how the pitch is doing but there is no way that Sri Lanka can win this one. Australia had a better chance then Sri Lanka did I believe so.

I think its more a case of can Pakistan blow a 500 odd run lead than can Sri lanka chase a 500 odd deficit

They will need both Sangakkara and Samaraweera to make centuries (at least). That knocks 130 runs off the total. One will have to go on and make 150. Leaving around 130 runs for Dilshan and Vaas, and whatever the tail can muster.

It won't happen.

Thank you.

Edit:

Ummm wait Pakistan's batting has blown the match wide open not their bowling

Bowlers win matches though, as will be shown tomorrow. To get Sri Lanka all-out for 233 in the first innings was an impressive effort on what is easily the flattest pitch of the series so far.

a bit unrelated and disappointed I have to make this after he got out (though no fault of his own) but I've just been looking at Jayawardene's stats.

erm, wow. I never realised how impressive they were, he's odds on the next guy to get to 10,000 runs and if he keeps his current average he'll have done it faster than gavaskar, waugh, border and dravid (and he's a hair's breath away from Lara's) no one currently playing is nearly as close.

yet he doesn't seem quite that respected in the game. does being a lankan mean he is dismissed a bit? or is it maybe he has to wait until the current monoliths of the game (ponting, Kallis, tendulkar, dravid) retire to make way for him to step into shoes of one of the modern greats?

to put his achievements in modern perspective, Laxman has played the same number of tests as him (and one more innings) and yet has about 1700 less runs. and he's more than two years younger than laxman.

Loads of Sri Lankan players don't get the plaudits they deserve. Chaminda Vaas is another who wll retire with no fanfare, the majority of cricket fans won't even bat an eyelid, but he too has a remarkable record.

The country has produced some wonderful cricketers, yet none bar Muralitharan have received the credit they deserve. Kumar Sangakkara will probably head the same way as these two. A wicket-keeper batsman (less so in recent times with Prasanna Jayawardene taking over) with an average of over 50, a genuine No.3. Yet he rarely enters people's thoughts when it comes to naming the current crop of great cricketers.

Jayawardene will never be overly popular because of his limited overs game. That's where players tend to win hearts.
