Pakistan in Sri Lanka - Jul-Aug 2009

I hope SL, still wins this game..... We haven't played that good cricket either.... only reason we have won cause Pakistan have played much worse than us and they seem to hit self destruct button at the worse possible moment.

I can't believe Kaneria wasn't included in the first two Tests. Easily one of the best spinners Pakistan have had since Saqlain/Abdul Qadir. If it wasn't for the distinct lack of Test cricket over the past 18 months, he would have close to 300 wickets.

Kaneria needed a kick up his backside, and that's what happened when Pakistan brought in Saeed Ajmal. Kaneria does not pick up wickets till he reaches his century, he was rightfully not selected. I still won't go by this performance of his, it's a dead rubber match, and that's when some of the Pakistani players like Kaneria, Malik, etc do well because of no pressure.

Actually Ali, I think Danish Kaneria would have been under a lot of pressure in this game to deliver, because of Saeed Ajmal.

If Saeed Ajmal outshone him and took 5 wickets (he should have had 5 but we had a blind umpire at one end) and Kaneria took between 0 and 2, then Kaneria might get the axe and never play for Pakistan.

It's happened in Pakistan cricket before (except to Asim Kamal). Asim Kamal got dropped for no reason, except to accomadate Hasan Raza (tests 1 and 3 vs England 2005) and Shahid Afridi (test 2 vs England 2005). In the 3rd test match, Younus Khan pulled out for a family reason (IIRC), and Asim Kamal was slotted in at #3. Asim Kamal failed in the only Pakistani innings for that game (Pakistan won by an innings & 100 runs), and he never played for Pakistan again.

Judging by the history of Pakistan cricket, Kaneria had a lot to prove. If he failed, he could have been discarded forever and Saeed Ajmal might be the preferred bowler to New Zealand and Australia later this year. Now there is a healthy competition for the spinners' slot :)

well i think leaving out mendis was a big mistake, u need ur X factor of the bowling unit to win test matches, and some times the X factor dont take lot of wickets but whn its around the other suport bowlers get lot of wickets, sri lankas have 3 X factors in the team (3 M's) and all not playing so i cant see how pakistanis will loss from this....

Shabash Dani boy. Good performance from Kaneria. Well he takes wickets but mostly they are expensive. This game though he made difference.

Btw Dani and Kamran look like brothers.

Wow unbelievable younis was not out inside edge and too high worst umpiring ever, great ball to yousuf really herath deserved a wicket. Fawad just gave it away wow what a session

Yesterday was Pakistan day, so today you know what will happen.

He's still your best bowler. 225 wickets before this Test started, that's pedigree that Pakistan don't have at the moment. I don't see why they both can't play - India have been successful for a long time with Kumble and Harbhajan.

Pakistan seem to know how to play him. In fact, of all the teams I've seen Mendis play against, Pakistan are by the far the best at countering him. 6 wickets in his last four Tests against Pakistan, at an average of 65. That is not a good record, and to me it is not a surprise that he has been dropped.

They played him well in the T20 tournament too.

For some reason, I don't think we can lose this game :p

Our bowlers have delivered in all 5 innings, and so I expect them to deliver in the 6th and final innings of the game. We have the runs on the board, so we should be able to defend this.

Soon the Lahore Badshah's minus Inzi will be representing Pakistan.

Now thats awesome that Nazir is in I think he is by far the best aggresive opener for Pakistan in the past years. He is very strong at batting and most importantly one of the best fielders. Don't really care about Rana he sucked anyways he could take 3 or 4 wickets in a match but at the same time have a run rate over 7
