Pakistan Edge Past Scots

Pakistaninnings4.jpg

Pakistan won their first game of the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament comprehensively by 4 wickets and with 3 full overs to spare. After Imran Nazir was trapped LBW Kamran Akmal got foolishly ran out in the same over to add pressure to the Pakistanis. The Scots put up a brave fight, but Younus Khan and Yasir Arafat steered Pakistan home.

If the target had been bit more, then Pakistan would have faced more tough times. Anyways, good win! :)

Scotland put up a very useful fight against a full strenght Pakistan squad.

First over from Scotland proved that they may only have fragile skill, but they have plenty of confidence that they can play the "big boys," of international cricket. The first over saw the two openers get off to a flyer, but in the second over horror struck when Coetzer edged behind for a duck, proving that whilst one of the openers flew like a duck, the other walked like one back to the Pavilion.

As it went on through the overs, Scotland kept losing wickets, but kept making runs, and ended on a disappointing total and it was always going to be Pakistans from there on in.

Pakistan started badly with Salman Butt going for only 3 runs but at the end of the 5th over they were 18/1.

Pakistan kept the runs flowing and Imran Nazir top scored with a more than impressive 38.

In the end Pakistan finished up with 3 Overs to spare, and Pakistan where home. It wasnt the over powering the Pakistan public wanted to see but it was a determined bowling display by both teams and both teams can walk off knowing its a good hard day out in the middle.

More later from Nasser Hussain in the studio chatting about the highs and lows of the Scotland/Pakistan match.

H.Bhogle: Hello there and welcome to The Final Analysis where we will review the day's play. With me in the studio are Kepler Wessels and Nasser Hussain. So first of all to you Kepler. What did you think of Scotland's overall performance?

K.Wessels: Well, they started off very well with Coetzer smashing Shoaib Akhtar around the park in his two overs which is really hard to do against the fastest bowler in the World. They had the 50 up in the 5th overs but sadly they lost wickets and they still had a full 6 overs to spare when they were all out which in my mind even for a weak team is poor.

N.Hussain: Just to touch on that about Shoaib, he was not at this best today. His line and length was all wrong and that reflected by his body language. Despite that I thought Asif, Arafat and Afridi bowled very well.

H.Bhogle: But the Pakistani chase was quite a struggle in the end wasn't it?

K.Wessels: Well yes Pakistan were maintaining the required rate but they were losing wickets. Some of which were soft dismissals, others were poor shots.

N.Hussain: Personally, the only player who found it easy out there was Imran Nazir whose 38 saved them from a collapse to be honest. After his 50 partnership stand with Shoaib Malik Pakistan must have thought that the game was a stroll in the park but it proved to be wrong.

H.Bhogle: Talking on Imran Nazir's knock, let's how where he scored his runs.

K.Wessels: Well he placed the ball through the gaps very well as he is known for being a pinchiter. That is what Pakistan want him to do up the order to take advantage of the 6 powerplay overs. But today he batted very sensibly I thought, he was not playing his natural game which made it difficult for him to adapt. But as a International Batsmen you must learn to do that and he did it brilliantly today.

H.Bhogle: Any improvements for Pakistan in their next game against India?

N.Hussain: Well their main concern is the top 3 batsmen and the middle-order. They need to fire for Pakistan in the powerplay overs. Their bowling on the other hand is great and accurate.

H.Bhogle: Right thanks gentleman for your time here in the studio. Right so that is it from us in the Studio, we will be back for Pakistan's next game against India. Till then bye from us!

Good work Amir and PC! Pretty easy win in the end. Can I just ask why the wagon wheel only has 3 fours and a six which makes just 18 runs when he got 38?

Keep up the good work!
