Pakistan Tour of Australia 2009/10

Siddle is dishing out absolute pies out there.

We really needed Hilfy or dare I say it Stuart Clark on this pitch. :facepalm

What made Ponting choose on this kind of surface and specially on this weather ?? :doh

I'd say Pakistan fielding a leg-spinner might have had some say in Ponting's decision to bat first today. Let's remember back to the last two test matches for Australia, they've been bowled out for 150 and struggled to make 200 in their second innings in both matches.

Plus, while the pitch was bowler friendly Australia didn't bat well at all, you could say everyone bar Watson played poor strokes.

WTF was Ponting thinking playing a shot like that:doh, it's like he did it on purpose.

New year and he needs a new brain :doh horrible decisison to bat

WORLD CHAMPIONS added 0 Minutes and 58 Seconds later...

And Hughes yet again a golden duck :facepalm

More than a few of the dismissals had zero to do with the quality of the pitch and conditions.

Hello Ricky Ponting... Very loose, characteristic of his overly cavalier batting style of late. My suspicion is he probably shouldn't be playing with his elbow not quite right and wearing an arm guard he isn't used to.

Of course, Hussey's pull shot was forced. Haddin was just trying something different and trying to break up Asif's excellent length. Mitch was hitting out at the end.

The other 4 of the top 8 were pitch based to me:
Hughes got a good ball that seemed to be shaping in slightly and left him off the pitch. Hughes didn't help by not getting near enough to a pretty full ball.
Watson's wicket ball straightened off the seam noticeably.
Clarke and Hauritz had balls that seamed in and bowled them.
North's was an away seamer that he followed, so I'd say half pitch, half batsman.

Of course you can argue the seam movement was down to good bowling, it's quite possible.

The conditions led to hard batting, which led to pressure, which led to silly shots.

Except Ponting, who is doing stuff like this far too often of recent times. He's not playing very responsibly at all at present. Michael Clarke would be a far more committed #3 IMHO.

Well it would take a miracle to have them fit, although Hilfy has played a club match. When Sami was swinging it at good pace, I was thinking how useful Brett Lee could have been...

Well lets be serious here. Ponting isn't some ****** who can't spot a green pitch. He was hoping: a) the batsmen would stick it out better and b) the potential runs given away by batting on a green pitch would be made up by making Pakistan bat last on a wearing pitch. In hindsight, it hasn't worked out well, but there was a method to the madness.

Wait and see how the match pans out fellas, and the batsmen shoulder most of the blame for playing very careless shots, the toss did not make Hughes fail to move his feet to a half volley etc. With our batting lineup 7 times out of 10 you'd think we'd be able to negotiate that days play easily. Yes there was movement but it wasnt extreme enough to be bowled out for 120 odd. Its not like Edgbaston 97 where it really was tough, or Old Trafford 97, or Trinidad 95, or that horrid day in 99 SA v Eng 1st test Joburg. That Donald ball to Athers was the definition of unplayable.

Sifter brings up a point on Ricky Ponting that I was going to mention, is he still Australia's best number three option? Now first of let me say that just because he isn't batting at three doesn't mean I'd want him dropped, but would someone else in the current team/or in state cricket be a better option.

If he wants to play until 2012 I think he'll have to move down the order at one point, he's the type of batsmen that's relied on his fantastic eye more then anything during his career, and at 35 that is only going to get worse.

Why is always Ponting to be blamed when your batsmen don`t perform. Some of the wickets had nothing to do with the pitch or the overhead conditions.

You must learn to give some credit to the opposition who took their catches this time. Why is it that if India or Pakistan or any opposition side for that matter do well against Australia, you start blaming Ponting`s captaincy or the condtions? Surely, its not all their fault. The opposition is there to play good cricket as well.

There are some good number 3s going around but it still means someone must be dropped from the current lineup. Ferguson, Bailey and Khawaja spring to mind, there is Klinger but the age could be a factor for him.

North springs to mind right away tbh.

Nah we have had good days before but I see where you are coming from :)

He means it's because the decade only just started

Hughes has only previously had 4 ducks in FC cricket, and only 1 of those was a golden - vs WA about a month ago.
