Pakistan vs England Jul-Aug-Sep 2010

Ajmal bowls like 1 semi-crap delivery every 18 balls, while 17 are good.

Kaneria bowls 14 really crap deliveries every 18 balls, so I know who I'd rather want in my side, 3 somewhat decent delivey, and 1 really good delivery.

I know who I'd rather want in my side.

Commentators are always a bunch of so and sos when it comes to field placings. Far easier saying things in the commentary box.

If you're chasing a lose total, it could get out of hand very quickly with a few boundaries. You need the deep point, deep square leg etc to keep you in the game. If that means you lose some pressure, so be it.

Trott's really starting to look the part at three, which will be a critical positions come the Ashes. Unlike Strauss he hasn't been given any lives, that I can remember in this innings, and has looked very composed even against the spin where he has struggled at times.

Cook on the other hand must be close to being dropped. Without being harsh to Bangladesh he hasn't scored well against a decent side in a long long time. Wouldn't be surprised if we see Carberry, or another opener, come in next match. In fact I actively hope that he's dropped, against Bollinger/Johnson/Hilfy we'd be ripped apart.

Played lads. Trott's a gun player, and should be at number 3 for us for the foreseeable future. Cook needs to GTFO out though. He looks abysmal atm. Forget what he did plundering the Bangladeshi's in Bangladesh, there is no way he is Test class right now. He's been in pathetic form this summer (only made 1 innings of note in the Championship too), and needs to be dropped. Micheal Carberry's in exceptional form and deserves to be given a go. He won't though, we'll stick with Cook until after the Ashes at least.

too bad the sun came out. Would have been fun with a cloud cover. Props to England for getting Pak out cheaply in the first innings.

If Pakistan can get at least 250 in both innings, then we have a game on.

Seems like quite a big task for them at the moment, maybe MoYo can help them.

Nice to see Swann stepping up to the plate yesterday with a match-winning display, proving himself to be a world-class cricketer. His transformation has been amazing, 4 years ago, he was nothing more than a county pro, never really noticed for performances. Solid slip fielder, who will continue to improve there imo and a handy lower order batsman.

Good performance by England, not as clinical as at Trent Bridge, but Pakistan put up more of a fight, and we got complacent a few times, but overall, the only concern I have is with Cook. I don't think he'll be dropped for the 3rd or 4th Test and the back-up plan for the Ashes will be Bell in at 3 and Trott up to open (he has the technique to open).

Apart from that, I'm so happy with how we are playing at the moment. Our bowling attack looks good, swing of Anderson, bounce of Finn, aggression from Broad (though his behaviour can be suspect at times, if we can channel it, he will go from strength to strength.)and finally the aggressive off-spin of Swann, who has had a wicket in his first over 20 times in Test cricket, he's played 23 tests iirc. That's a phenomenal ratio.

Good time to be an England fan.

The problem, is if Cook fails in the next two tests. It doesn't give Carberry (or who ever is the replacement) a fair chance to establish himself before the ashes. Going back to county cricket might be what Cook needs to stay out of the spotlight and gain confidence.

If Cook fails in the next test, then I would select Carberry for the final test, it would give him a chance to establish himself as a solid replacement and Cook gets the chance to take a step back and get some confidence.

I still worry also about the penetration of the seam bowlers when the pitch becomes flat and the ball is not swinging. Those questions are still left unanswered.

Jimmy is the main problem in that department, since when the ball swings he can be near unplayable, but when it's flat he looks very mediocre. He doesn't have the accuracy of a Hilfenhaus when the ball isn't doing anything.

Swann going to be in for a lot of bowling during the ashes.
