Pakistan vs England Jul-Aug-Sep 2010

LBW not referred, I thought it was out.

I personally don't agree with teams conferring before a referral. I think it should be almost instantaneous to go with it or not. How is it usually? I have only really followed 1 series with UDRS in place (Ind vs SL) and once Jayawerdene took some time before a referral (which ended up in his favor) and there was quite an uproar in forums, the paper, etc.

is it just me or has umpiring been getting worse with LBWs in series the review is in place.

like maybe instead of being more confident in their calls they are just thinking "i'll only give ones that are plum and anything else the team can refer so it's on their heads if they don't get it."

I really fail to see how an umpire could not have given that out, there's little carry in the pitch so it was never going over, pitched in line and straightened. No idea why pakistan didn't refer it either.

I think Umps should be reviewed on a series by series basis. Evaluated like players would be. How many batsmen given out, how many given not out, how many referrals were taken, how many decisions changed, and other factors like the one we had here that can't be recorded by actual numbers.

Lets get this test's live discussion started. Cook gets owned again. What other Test opener do England have ?

I'd open with Trott and bring in someone like Hildreth for the middle over, Bell if fit obviously.

Cook needs to be dropped. His technical flaws are just so obvious and are being continually exploited by any half decent bowler.

I dunno if putting umpires under more pressure is a great idea, sometimes they can be like players, having good series then having some bad form. You wouldn't want someone chastised and reprimanded after they'd had a bucknor if they're usually pretty good.

I thought reviews were a pretty good idea and on the whole, nicks and grassed catches have been cleaned up, but still big holes in how LBWs are handled..

They keep showing it and with good cause because it really was quite a poor call.

not sure about whether teams should confer over referrals, I think it's ok to get a second opinion, it's more about whether to use a referral so early, also, I think it's the captains call, you're going to kinda force the captains hand with field positions, he can hardly judge an LBW from deep square leg. Also, if the TV umpire is going to use a multiple of angles to judge the call, why can't the team confer with other players to get an all round picture?

Well Pakistan do get a referral in their favor with Strauss gone caught behind.

This will be a real test for the Pakistani team now that I think about it. Especially with their Ramadan fasts going on and what not.

Do players do that then too? That's dangerous and reckless.

Good bowling by Wahab.

Wahab gets another. Pakistan look such a good team with the ball. If only they were even half as good with the bat in their hands!

I wonder if the problem withing pakistan is the culture of failure that surrounds the team.

apart from amin and ali, who look really sub-par players, most of their debutants look really sound. in fact, akmal and alam both hit tons in their first few matches. Amir has been a revelation, haider showed uncharacteristic fight, this Wahab guy is bowling very well and quick.

only Asif has any record of consistent performance over a period of time.

it seems the best thing a pakistan cricketer can do is not play for pakistan.

That's tweaking batting from England, Cook is again gone for a low score, who's Wahab Riaz, I've never seen him playing, is he making his debut?

Pietersen and Morgan now need to hang out for long to save England.
