Pakistan vs New Zealand @ UAE 2009

Sorry to post something different from the game discussions, but I just read Inzy's comment about Afridi leading the ODI side and about Younis's decisions in recent times

It is a stupid thing they did because he is too experienced a player to be dropped or sacrificed for accommodating two regular openers," he said. "Malik's exclusion has spoilt the balance of the team and this will be obvious against stronger sides - Inzamam Ul Haq on Malik's exclusion in some recent game

This is what plagues subcontinent players. Too much importance is being given to reputation. He cleverly uses the word "experience" because he doesnt want to look embarassed in the public by using words like "he is too big a player to be dropped". This is what makes the job of the subcontinent captain really tough, because people who have these old school ideas have the medium to comment and it puts pressure on the captain.

Great work from NZ, bowled well and actually batted well too.
IMO Pakistan shouldn't have played around with the order. Once Younis fell it should have been Yousuf coming in followed by Malik. When they brought in Afridi and Akmal it was like saying go for it, it doesn't matter if you throw your wickets away. Latif impressed again, played a good innings.

Vettori was once again the up to his usual tricks, scored runs and got crucial wickets and bowled a tight spell, dude is a legend.

McCullum finally fired. Turning out to be a good series. I hope Pakistan clinches it :)

The bloke is such a consistent player: shame those around him can't keep up with him. If they could, the Kiwi's would be a real force to be reckoned with! (Won a lot of vcash by thinking The Blackcaps would really want this one!):)

Finally a match winning knock from McCullum. FINALLY. It was an absolutey outstanding innings too. Chanceless, had a bit of everything. The bowling was pretty good too. lol at Styris getting 3 wickets though. Great performance, good to see Oram chime in a bit too even if he was a tad slow. Vettori absolutely outstanding in all facets once again. What a legend. Vettori and Styris very much turned the fielding effort around and did it so quickly.

Broom is rubbish, needs more time in domestic, he's not up to scratch.

ok alright i will use "The most popular world cup" ... how does that sound?

No way its the most popular world cup. It has had just 2 editions and people tend to forget it as quickly as the T20 game itself.
As Hmarkas said, the 50-over World Cup is the real `World Cup` and teams and supporters wait for it and plan towards winning it for 4 years. I`d be glad to not win a T20 World Cup for two decades if we win the 2011 WC. That is how prestigious it is.

As Howsie has been saying Broom would probably be better up the order but with the guys we have up the top already (Taylor, Guptill, Ryder etc) he won't get much of a go so hes going to have to learn how to finish off an innings or his international career will be a short one.

Franklin in for Broom is the one change I would make for the last game.

I'd keep McCullum opening now, at least for a while. I think he's felt the pressure on himself not having a hundred against a proper side and not performing well. This might have a huge effect on him where he's more relaxed and plays his natural game. It could open the floodgates. Hopefully, fingers crossed. We know the talent is there.

Yeah, we just need to bring Franklin in for Broom.
Not much else to change...

Redmond needs to play like he did in the first match, McCullum and Guptill like they did in the second. Taylor simply just needs to get off the mark, then move onto double figures, and work form their.

We have so many all rounders that bowling shouldn't be a problem. If Franklin plays, five through to eleven, can all bowl.

Boom Boom McCullum finally made a century, man of the match, boom boom!!

well they're like for like basically, except Elliott's a better batsman. Maybe they might decide to play BJ Watling for Redmond in the last game?

 McCullum has finally played an innings befitting of his talents.

What next, he actually becomes consistent and starts to reach his potential. :p
