ok how bout things like drawing a batsman forward or he is getting caught in the crease, due to a barrage of short balls.(the bats man is either hit or totally not able to connect)
i was thinking other than just say decreasing timing window aka confidence meter like in c07 would it be possible to have something else, what else would be nice ?

Getting caught in the crease and other stuffs are surely user input...Purely based on how you approach your game....If you are asking while the user is bowling then use the loss of confidence in a better way by getting him beaten and plan deliveries to get him out...Simple...:)

You mean setting the batsmen up? Like bowling a barrage of bouncers then popping in a yorker?

This was quite well executed in IC10. You could set the AI up. You could even give them balls on a good line and length, reduce the scoring rate then chuck one in short and wide and theyd go after you, giving a catching chance.

Surely DBC14 has something in place, rather than the probability of picking up a wicket being the same regardless of what pattern of deliveries have been bowled previously. Or else bowling would be very repetitive and dry.

Hopefully individual batsman have weaknesses too. Eg: Jonathan Trott's ability to play short balls.

This game has mad everyone think like a cricketer as there was nothing like planning, deceiving before in any cricket game but this game has made us think so much....Even after these many days we have something new to discuss which is the best part and how much ever we get to see about the game there's always something new and an element of surprise for us....:yes:thumbs

How do you know? - no one has played it yet.

International Cricket Captain was released in the 90's and has elements of planning and strategy.

Um, a whooole stack of people have played it.

This is probably more realistic, because "setting a batsman up" takes into account all sorts of things, including form, pitch wear, weather and so on. It's more realistic to have a batsman with a particular weakness to say, 'short pitch bowling' and set a plan for that... rather than some secret up up down down combo of bowling that instantly reduces the batsman confidence, or whatever. IMO, the best way to get a batsman out is keep em on strike and bowl dot balls. It's no secret, really. That should be, in theory, easy to account for in a cricket game, really.

That and the old bouncer barrage to reduce their confidence and offer some chances, with a corresponding risk of going for runs.

I think there should be an ethos of risk v reward for everything in the game, or else thats when these 'magic' combos get found out and exploited.

Take Top Spin for example. In TS3 you could always serve out wide, come in to the net and win the point. Online gameplay was screwed as a result. TS4 if you serve out wide sure you're a good chance to come in and win the point, but you're also vulnerable to be passed up the line. Succesfully executing this tactic depended a whole lot on the individual skills of the opponent.

The same principle should apply to DBC14. You need to recognise the oppositions individual strengths and weaknesses and then strategise according to them.

Exactly. Risk and reward. Couldn't put it better.

You'd hope that would be directly related to the batsman individual skill ratings (e.g. Just give Trott a really low 'Back Foot' rating)

It's still yet to be seen how differentiating a factor the skill levels are, but we'll see

The problem with weakness is it should be defined well ,for example raina can play short ball s @ 120-130 in subcontinent but not at say 150 on bouncy pitch.

Im not talking about combos like in fighting games where ABCD=Z

Im asking how does the Confidence meter work ,on what all occasions will it be adjusted.how dynamic is it

shouldnt be problem if you can say you play out the next short ball get runs get off strike .

yup it wud be intresting, in c07 ganguly couldnt play proper hook shot even against ban or zim,

If modding will be possible in PC and the CA is linkable to all the three formats, wouldn't it be possible to play with mods on all the three formats?

Good thing about this will be you actually have to earn your runs when. I remember having a saved game on Ricky Ponting Cricket 2010, and putting myself (custom player, and a bowler) in to open the batting and going on to making over 1000 individual runs in the one innings, just by belting endless 6's (which just made the game stupidly lopsided).
