South Africa in England

well played today boys, fantastic captincy from KP, bowling from patel and harmy, batting from freddie and kp and excelent in the field

lets see if we can keep this up

I also orded the new OD shirt recently, i bet you cant geuss who i got on the back lol

:cheers

This Pietersen lad seems to be a bit spesh. Nice yorkers by Fred and great music in the ground.

Yeh, he is abit, have you not seen me going on about him ? Told ya he'd be good :p

Great win for England, ended South Africa's good run in ODi cricket. Kallis and Gibbs were the key wickets. Nice to see KP getting a few wickets. Freddie's final over was a peach also, his face when he got Nel was priceless.

Well done England. Pietersen was excellent. Led from the front. 90* and 2 wickets. Big wickets too. South Africa will be kicking themselves for getting out to him. Tat total shouldn't have been a big problem for them, but they lost regular wickets and their lack of depth showed up with no Morkels.

Harmison had a good return, Flintoff was steady as always and actually made some runs, Broad was pretty unimpressive but Patel bowled quite well. Prior looked good opening but Bell was hopeless really. England should have made better use of the power plays early.

Now England need to consistently play well. There's no doubt that when Pietersen makes big runs that England will do well. They need to get other players stepping up and continue it now.

Very strong performance from England - basically an extremely strong bowling attack. Again, who said that pace doesn't matter. When you have four bowlers who can bowl 90mph, you are going to do well. Sure, Broad and Anderson were ineffective today, but they are the ones with the fantastic career records who will no doubt bounce back. England did get extremely lucky today with lucky breaks at the right times but I always expected an England win simply because today, it all went to plan. The batting, which I thought was diabolically structured, went perfectly and reached its maximum potential of 275 despite not using two people who are in for their batting with Bell wasting the powerplays.

Morne Morkel to slot in for Steyn for what is destined to be a cracker of a second ODI.

should i call sehwag? ::p

The man who got bounced out by Hoggard? ;)

Good performance today. Thought Bell was poor up-front. Not enough rotation of the strike. Their opening bowlers out-bowled ours, too. Apart from that, I don't think we did much wrong. Good all-round displays from Kev and Fred. Patel bowled well, too. Prior's keeping was also another high point.

Trent Bridge on Tuesday. Expect a South African fightback.

What a match it was, well played by KP and Freddie. It's also good to see Harmison back in ODIs, he bowled well and got the important wickets :clap

I dunno, it seems like spin and blokes throwing the ball at less than 90 mph were equally as important as the fast bowlers. The variety of bowling options allowed Pietersen to ignore Wright completely and if he had been forced to give Anderson 7 more overs, it's entirely possible that the result could have gone the other way.

Today, yes and it is unlikely that they'll all fire on a given day but having four of them means that you have four match winning forces with the ball and only two have to fire to have a large impact on the game.

What are the odds on me setting my tent up at Leeds next to the most foul mouthed aussies ever? Great blokes though. We got back to our tents at about 2:30 in the morning and i'd been trying to get the cricket score all night and I then I boot up this laptop to be greeted with the news that we'd won. Good end to the night that was.

So how did the game go then? Good to watch?

Good game.Good for the series more importantly.

But the fact remains that a standard compliment of say, Anderson, Broad and Harmison stood to be blamed for leaking 276 rather than praised for defending 275. The only serious damage was from Harmison, who had just the wickets of Smith and Duminy, while Broad and Flintoff only chimed in against the tail and lower order. Yes, I recognise that Harmison and Flintoff gave a miserly account, but I wouldn't consider it to be all that much of an impact. Fielding played a bigger part in this game, the South Africans were unusually sloppy at times and could have done better, while England were switched on. Plus, let's face it, in terms of batsmen 1-6, the two spinners had 3, to the four quicks' 2.

I'm not saying they should drop their esteemed pace attack, but if you dropped the slow bowling out of this equation, they would have been rooted. It was the sheer number of bowlers that got them there rather than the degree of pace. It was not the fact that they had the 4 quicks alone, but that they had 4 genuine pacemen, one seamer as back-up, one genuine slow bowler and a couple more handy slower men. They didn't have to rely on Anderson bowling without swing and they weren't even obliged to use Wright.

With Flintoff and Patel playing in the middle order, they might have achieved startling balance, especially with Collingwood also expected to return and Swann lurking. I suppose it is no matter for analysis because if they keep on going like this, chances are that there will be a game where the quicks take all the wickets and it will be silly to bring up the advantage of a long bowling lineup.

So in search of something worth discussing, the target drifts to something else to pick on. Let's discuss that old top order. Where are they going to find 3 decent top order guys? Is it ridiculous that England have not given Trott a serious *sigh* run? How long will this formation stand before they rejig it?

such a great victory, but just look what would of happened if we had of gone at a good pace at the start,we could of got over 300.but in the end, great batting from KP and Freddie, they do have a similar batting style.and of corse,Harmy coming back,3 bowlers at 90mph,cause Broad sometimes got up there,KP brilliant captincy, but like always,it being a D/N match helped, bat 1st at the next game and we will have it pretty much rapped up.watch out champions trophy!!!!

Sorry but this needs to be said....Typical!

One good win and we all jump aboard the kevalo and think we are the best side in the world because we have beaten the saffas once.
