I really liked the look of parnell's batting in this game and the last test. He really could be that number 8 we have missed since polly retired. Now if only he can get his bowling more accurate, sure that will come with time though.

I guess SA lost out only Graeme Smith (did they lose out on anyone else?). India have lost Gambhir, Harbhajan, Zaheer, Yuvraj. The last three have a lot of ODI's between them. Gambhir in the last 1 and a half years has been almost our icon player. And we went in with only 3 specialist bowlers (Dhoni, I thought, was poor in that area of decision making).

When we put up only 298, I never believed that we would successfully defend it. And when I saw us doing well, I was mighty surprised. But in the end, we decided to make things interesting for the crowd (maybe the BCCI's plan to make the series interesting and pull crowds for the next games). Its quite a co-incidence that most of our ODI games in India in recent times have been high scoring thrillers that invariably end up as last over thrillers.

Looking at the South Africa squad for the first ODI there is no reason to play Albie Morkel. Take him out bring back Amla and bat him at #3.

I would get rid of the hack(bosman averaged 17 in the local 40 over comp) and open with amla.

Well he better start performing because his last good performance against a good side was in January of 2009 against Australia, other then that he hasn't done much.
He went wicketless in the Champions trophy.

He was awesome in the pro20's, he didn't play in the odi's. There is a reason why his career 20/20 average is better than his first class and list a average. Do you seriously think a batsman who averaged 17 in the local list a competition this past season is deserving of his spot in the national squad??

Bosman has no comprehension of how you build an innings.

Bosman is a 20/20 specialist and that's where he should stay.

I'd absolutely have Amla in for Bosman. He's in good form at the moment. Why leave a guy in form on the sidelines, especially when SA are 1-0 down.

Selectors make strange decisions. They initially left him out of the odi squad despite averaging 44 with a strike rate of 82.
