Lol, so you know the feeling. And I always thought, we got Tendulkar so its even stevens. But no, we also had those matchfixers putting more pressure on Tendulkar so he couldn't perform to full extent and that's why Vaas got him few times. SL was never good enough. Not even good enough to win that world cup. Remember how India floundered their chances in the semi-finals. That's one match which never gets away from mind. Even the loss to AUS in 2003 doesn't hurt much than that one.
I agree with you, I want Tendulkar to come back and like he played in the 97/98 season, evreyteam was feared of him, ecspeccialy the aussies, the world cup 03 deafeat did hurt me, becuase India started off bad, but they bounced back strongly, they won 8 out of 8 games and those 8 wins in a row was one sided, I felt that the Indian team was clicking at that time, and I thought the India team will win the final, all India had to do is chase like they did agiasnt Pak, bowl like they did agiasnt the Lankans and the New Zealanders, and put the score up like in the match vs the Lankans, I also thought that the aussie bowlers would be under-tremendos pressure, the Pak bowlers were in that world cup much better then the Ausssie attack, so I thought this is the time, but when India lost, I felt a bit dejected, I thought this was India's best ever chance to win a world cup.
About the Lankan in the 96 world cup semi-final, I remember this like it was yesterday, India got off to a great start when Sri l was 10-3, then De Silva batted superbly and got the lankans to a defendable totel of 252, when India was chasing Tendulkar was playing class in the semi-final, he was playing like he wanted the world cup, India's was in a good position at 98-1 in 23 overs, then suddenldy due to some fualty shots, and the pitch was spinning sharply ( sharpest ever I think), it was hard to bat and play strokes and India from 98-1 in 23 overs 12 overs later then collapsed to 120-8 in 35 overs, when the crowd went beserk and threw stuff onto the field, the match was awarded to the lankans, but what was worse was to see Vinob Kambli leaving the field in tears, he wanted to win it for India.
