Sri Lanka tour of India - November/December 2017

Why did he waste a review? That is just unbelievable. Can't for the life of me understand that.

Will these two clowns Gavaskar and Manjerekar be in the com box in SA?

Gavaskar will be there for sure.

Dinesh Karthik opened the batting in England and we won that series. He's by far the best keeper batsman in the country. Saha has a better temperament though. Karthik is like a cat on a hot tin roof on a cricket field. I still haven't seen Saha perform in overseas conditions. Let's see what he can do. I feel he's a complete front foot player with 0 back foot game and he will get found out against Australia, England, NZ and SA. Karthik's only enemy is Karthik himself.

As for Jadeja and Ashwin? LOL. Ashwin's solid 'scores' have not led to anything. Jadeja's Lord's innings was a match winning one. He's the sort of cricketer who wins you games. I don't remember one test match India has won overseas where Ashwin has done something useful apart from talk.

I just wanted to pick you over the flamboyance, solidarity thing. Alastair Cook is a fabulous batter, but he's no Pieterson. I know who I am picking each day of the week. Flamboyance is not a bad thing ala Sehwag, irresponsibility is ala Dhawan.

Well.... Not going to further add to this debate (thereby signaling the end of it) but my money stays on the people I've argued for.

Though I don't expect India to capitulate like they did in the 1st innings, a 100+ runs deficit does put you under pressure. And with 4 sessions to go, I wouldn't rule out all 3 possible outcomes as things stand.

With the way India have batted, a Sri Lanka chances of winning has been massively been brought down. Which is a pretty good effort since SL looked the only team to force a result, when the Day started. I see a draw here as about 95% likely. I can't see anyone winning here, but if a team manages to win, I feel it could be India.

What happened to Naman Ojha? He was in he team in the 2015 Sri Lanka series, but was not chosen afterwards.

Not sure. And I believe he did not light up the domestic scene enough to grab the selector's eye?

Lakmal takes two wickets, India really need a good partnership at this stage. A lead of 200+ might just be enough but anything can happen.

Fair enough. I don't think I grudge Saha's selection. At least he looks dedicated to the job. Just my opinion that DK is better, given a run. So, to end the debate and be practical- Saha goes in as first choice for SA, but should be assessed after a couple of overseas tours. Samson also has amassed a lot of runs in the domestic circuit.[DOUBLEPOST=1511161570][/DOUBLEPOST]

This is why I say statistics can be so misleading- The numbers after 3 months cumulated will show Dhawan as some superstar in this game. If India save this, it's Pujara's work.

Heading most likely for a draw now unless Lanka collapses drastically also considering the fact it goes dark pretty early at this time of the year mostly all across India. So we might just have 30 odd overs remaining in the day for Lanka to Survive/Chase.

Kohli wanting to declare. Shastri asking him to get a hundred. Bet Anil Kumble would have called these guys back at 180.

They`d be wishing they had those 40 extra minutes or so now! If SL are 6 down by the 20th over, we might be in for some fun. Draw still the most likely result.

The positive from an Indian point of view is that this is a scenario that puts the onus on our seamers to go for wickets against all odds. This is what would be expected of them overseas quite frequently and the fact that they get to do this under pressure before they face tougher opponents is a definite positive.

I agree with you. They've bowled far too short on this wicket. Modern day captains are so so defensive. Only captain of this generation who would have dangled the carrot is Michael Clarke.

My biggest worry is that with Umesh having an ordinary game must not lead to Ishant coming back for the next game. Despite a really poor performance, Umesh still picked up wickets in this game, something Ishant has forgotten to do so. I really hope that the cozy Delhi club does`nt get bigger come the second test. There were already cries for his Ishant`s inclusion by Mr.Manjrekar yesterday.

My my! Cricketer of the year going and sledging Dickwella. He's made his contribution for this test other than fielding like Ramesh Powar.

That would be miserable but not as miserable as Vijay missing out. Also, somehow all misfields and drops happen when Umesh is bowling. He also loses his mind when he sees grass on the wicket. Instead of bowling accurately he just spurs it all over the pitch. I feel Bhuvi apart, all our seamers can bowl wicket taking deliveries and bowl magic balls but they lack consistency/accuracy on tracks that assist them.

Possible 15 overs remaining with the weather just starting to get a bit dark. Will be interesting to see Dickwella's approcah started off in his typical attacking manner still Draw holds the upper hand in terms of the outcome of this match.
