Sri Lanka tour of India - November/December 2017

I would love to stick with Rahane at #5. And Rahul should be given more chance in opening slot. People seem to forget his last series where he scored 50 in almost all innings when most of the batsmen failed. Without him we wouldn't have won against the Aussies. He is back now and let him settle a bit.

Yeah I don't know why we never gave Mukund a long run. He is a solid bat and could have established himself as a regular opener till now. But now isn't the time.

True, he was only used as a backup for the batsmen like Shikhar Dhawan (God knows why?).

Solid point. Rahul and Vijay must be the opening partnership with Mukund as the backup.

Yeah agreed. I was just saying he needs to work on his temperament. I seriously don't want to see Rohit near the Test team but these two guys at the top of the management seem like they want him in and that is why I suggested if that is going to be the case, we can push Rahane up the order.

The problem was he got 5 continuous matches to play, but all of them were in overseas and apart from 1 fifty, he didn't impress much. So he was dropped.

Where will you push him? #3 and $4 is fixed. #1 should always belong to Vijay ( but team thinks differently ). And we have Rahul/Mukund/Dhawan(team wants him). So, Rahane is pretty much stuck in that position. If he gets his form back, he will play crucial role against Saffers. Hope he does well in this series and gets some confidence.[DOUBLEPOST=1511543588][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah. Sometimes he gets carried away. He definitely needs to work on that.

I was suggesting him at 2 with Vijay at 1 if Rohit will play. I know I am being a bit harsh on Rahul but seriously why is Rohit in the XI is beyond me. And I only said it because I feel they will definitely play Rohit Sharma even in RSA series.

I agree about Rohit but don't agree with Rahane. We have other openers if Rahul/Mukund/Dhawan fails. I understand why you are telling that Jinx should be moved up. . But Jinx is super solid at #5. His partnership with Kohli is a delight to watch when they are in full form.

Rohit should never be allowed in test team especially in overseas conditions. I have a feeling too that he might play against SA but hope we are wrong about that.

Why is everybody bashing Rahul? He just came back into the Test team and after scoring a fifty, getting out to a jaffy in Kolkata 1st innings. Give him some time. Players like him are immensely talented and can take the game away from the opposition. Everybody has bad days.
Mukund is very unfortunate that there are three guys ahead of him. He hasn't done anything wrong but Vijay and Rahul are first choice with Dhawan as backup. The only way he could come back is if someone is injured or loses form, which isn't likely going to happen very soon.

If Rohit performs in SA, he will cement his spot. Come on Hitman, show them what you're made of. But, even being a big fan of him, if he fails - that should be his last test.

This is where I feel Pujara needs to improve. He's taking all the momentum out of the innings.

Really hope Rahul makes a hundred in the 3rd test. He isn't batting here again.

People talk about Dhawan as some big time stroke maker- Just look at the ease with Vijay is going.. he's just outstanding! Same goes for Rahul.[DOUBLEPOST=1511601672][/DOUBLEPOST]Pujara is going to get a hundred here and it's not even a 1/10 innings compared to the 10/10 innings he played in Kolkata.

SL are just PISS POOR and Chandimal is probably the worst captain in world cricket.

Solid comeback for Vijay, especially with the overseas tours happening right after this. Vijay is our Mr. Dependable when it comes to overseas batting, and then comes Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and only after them comes Virat Kohli. Vijay's form will be very crucial for India to compete overseas as a solid opener gives a great platform and confidence for others.

Pujara is also getting into that groove with some crucial innings here and in Kolkata. I think with Vijay in good touch, Rahul and/or Dhawan should feed off that confidence and have a few good innings of their own. Fingers crossed!
