Sri Lanka tour of India - November/December 2017

A string of low scores from Rahane already. That's the reason I said that. Nonetheless, I want Rohit to grow as a test cricketer, he's been in good touch and even was before getting injured. Let's wait and watch.

Utter dominance of a club level team by India! Most of them feasted on Sri Lanka and the accompanying good conditions. However...

Don't write off Rahane in test cricket. He is that rare breed who tends to falter in home conditions but come overseas conditions where the challenge is the highest, he brings on his 'beast mode' and tackles it with aplomb like no one else. Have we forgotten that along with Vijay, Rahane was the pillar for us when we toured overseas under Kohli's captaincy in the recent past? He scores more centuries abroad than he does in India. He scores centuries in tough conditions (e.g. Lord's, etc.). If people like Dravid, Laxman, Sachin were sacked after some failures at home, they wouldn't have been the legends that they are today.

And Rohit doesn't inspire the same confidence as Rahane. Rohit is too flashy and doesn't have the temperament for test cricket (yet). Even if you give him comfort conditions, Rohit finds a way to not use it (though to his credit, he used it today). It will take Rohit quite a few innings of substantial nature and that too probably when someone gets injured, in order for him to prove his worth in tests. Until then, the core of our test team should be Vijay, Rahul/Dhawan/Mukund, Pujara, Rahane, Kohli, Saha, Ashwin and then the bowlers.

Top 5 batters out and suddenly Ashwin takes the next 3. Loved him bowling leg breaks.

Chandimal thinks his bowlers did really well. Would India have scored 1,000 if they had bowled badly? It just shows how out of depth he is, not just as captain but as a cricketer.

Umesh is on 99, Ashwin is on 299.
And the latter it is.

And my comment on Rahane was just a joke... I know what kind of test player he is, we need him to fire in SA of late.

Kohli is rested for ODI and Dhawan is back for next test. Hopefully they don't drop Vijay to allocate Dhawan.

Good that Kohli is rested. The ODI side picked is almost completely different from the test team that will tour South Africa (except for Rahane and Bhuvi). Hope it stays the same for the T20i's against SL too. And good they gave captaincy reins to Rohit instead of Rahane. Rohit should be the VC for ODI's and Rahane or Pujara for tests.

Rohit > Rahane
End of discussion.
Thats like saying Gautam Gambhir is the best batsman of this generation. Both the jokes apart, Rahane had just scored a century 3 innings ago. Also its Rahane not Kohli, Pujara, Vijay who is the most pro-folic away runs getter. Rahane averages plus 17 runs when away from home. The only person near his record is Steven Smith.[DOUBLEPOST=1511806415][/DOUBLEPOST]Having said that, I see Rohit Sharma as the best batsman to have at number 6, if he gets into his zone and if he makes Test Cricket as his format India would have the Dravid Tendulkar Laxman Ganguly era back with Ganguly being a right hander.

Ganguly was a vastly under rated test bat. His short ball deficiency was there but he found ways to get runs abroad and get 100's. Rohit is far more gifted but not half as resolute. Ganguly was test captain and in his pomp at RS's age. His test boat has sailed. It's one thing creaming Lakmal, quite another facing Morkel in Durban.

Absolutely true. Thats why I said Rohit needs to get into test groove. He might as well hit another 100 in next match but if starts getting those outside India thats when I would have confidence in him. I see Number 6 in Indian team that is still not settled or taken. Although one must remember we dont have Pandya and he might easily come back in the team and be batting at 7 with Saha at 6. The problem with Pandya at 7 is that the batting is too thin as he wont be consistent. Yes he will give us a good inning here and there but he wont be consistent. For SA we should be seeing a lineup as

KL Rahul/Dhawan
Murali Vijay
Chesteshwar Pujara
Virat Kohli
Ajinkya Rahane
Rohit Sharma
Wriddhiman Saha
Hardik Pandya/Bhuvneshwar Kumar
R Ashwin/R Jadeja/K Yadav
Mohammad Shami
Umesh Yadav/Ishant Sharma/Bhuvneshwar Kumar

We either play Rohit and Pandya both and risk of having a 2 proper seamer attack or play with proper 3 seamers. One spinner will play and it can be anyone
