Sri Lanka tour of India - November/December 2017

How rubbish was it to play Dhawan ahead of Vijay? Vijay is a test specialist is the truest sense and has prepared himself well enough to be selected in the squad and be ready to be selected in the XI. Rhythm cannot be more important than having a proper specialist who has shown to weather challenging conditions. And pre-game info said that the Eden track was lively and would help seamers. And with the rain expected to influence the game, seamers should be expected to get even bigger purchase. How in the world do they select Dhawan over Vijay?

Had Vijay played, he would have taken first strike above Rahul. And if Vijay had played out a few deliveries and found out that there was good purchase for seamers, Rahul would've been more cautious and we could have even had a wicketless day. I sense we are going to have some really horrific days under Kohli-Shastri if they keep taking decisions like this.

Dhawan and Rohit should not be anywhere near test team but unfortunately won't happen.

Whats worse is that you have sections of the media (Aaj Tak and their Youtube channel Sports Tak) who keep calling for Dhawan`s inclusion over Vijay as well. Do these guys really understand cricket or even follow Indian cricket beyond the bilateral ODI/T20 pyjama stuff?

They are helpless. If they criticise too much, they'll lose access to interviews to rival channels. I was recently watching an interview where R Sardesai was mentioning how Shastri was blabbering about Lanka beating Pakistan to prove India beating SL was a big deal.

Do they even understand the pyjama stuff?

That is one of the reason I never watch sports section in news.

If India can scrap their way to 175, we have the bowling to win the test match.

175 is looking so, so far away. If Saha can stick around with Pujara, it would be great. Saha has the temperament for it, hope he does it today. I reckon if we get to 150, that will be a decent total considering the situation we are in.

It might sound a bit bias, but if Pujara and the tail manage 250, it might well enough be an innings win.

Aren't we overestimating our bowlers here a bit? What's the weather forecast for the next 4 days like? Is it gonna be the same as now? I reckon batting will become easy as time goes by. So I think SL will be in a position to take advantage of that, wouldn't they?

I saw(google) that weather is gonna be like this even tomorrow. And I don't agree with Ali's point where we can win by an innings. But what I am telling is, if we crawl to 150, we will have good chance to win the match ( not telling we will take the lead in this innings ). We have 5 genuine bowlers and all 5 bowlers are good. And, I am not over-estimating them. They are really good. So, if we get to 150 and even if they take the lead, it will not be huge and they will be playing in the 4th innings. We will have good chance.

As pathetic as our management and captain are, I have been watching cricket for 25 years and never seen India have such a bowling attack. I think on the balance of seam/swing/pace/spin, we have the best bowling attack in the world.

 Lakmal 3 wickets in 11 overs with just 5 runs. He was in some bowling form I think.

Pujara and Saha need to bat out for at least 20-30 overs.

Rain is heavy it seems. This is irritating !
