Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand

well if Vettori is troubling the batsman than i think that Murali should have a field day here, i look for him to have a long spell.

they dont need him to have a long spell, 500+ is gonna be nearly impossible for the Kiwis.
they will just rest Murli

He would have been selected but he had a finger injury and had just recovered before the first test. The selectors didn't want to select someone without them playing a few domestic matches. Of course, the selectors kept the same team for the second test as there was no real reason to change it.

Vettori got 10 wickets, 7 in this innings. Missed the hattrick :( but got 3 in 4 balls lol. He bowled very well, the only problem was the batsmen in the first innings didn't score enough runs. We now have to come out chasing just over 500. Shouldn't happen, especially not with Murili there. If it rains all tomorrow or tuesday we could draw, who knows, I guess anything could happen in this bizzare test series. You would have to say, 98% at least chance for Sri Lanka to take this one out. We need batsmen to score hundreds.

It's only the third day, so even though it's the fourth innings, the pitch won't be too bad. The form of our batsmen and Murili will be the factors which go against us. Sinclair and Fleming would have to have a big partnership. I believe those two guys are the ones who can bat a long time. Maybe even Cumming. Hopefully theres some good cricket. I would hate us to be rolled.

Of course Murili will have a long spell. Sri Lanka will bowl him the whole innings (bar the opening session) from one end like they usually do in the fourth innings.

-> This jersey thing is interesting. I myself feel that it is common sense and in good safety and fairness for the umpire to use the jersey around his waist so the ball can be seen. Obviously Jaywardene is against it by what we saw at the end and so he would be, since Malinga is in his side. I don't think he would like to face him if he was going to lose sight of the ball from the umpires pants though. I guess I don't blame him.

I don't know if its very safe if the bowler can't see the ball. Maybe the ICC need to sort out a rule.

Anyway, they are off for light now. I bet the Sri Lankans are a teeny bit worried about things now. Rain is possible for the remaining days. THey won't be too worried, but something for them to think about. Any time taken off the match will do NZ good.

This bad light might be alright for NZ but it depends how long it leaves them. If there is only time for 1 days play then that plays into SL hands as NZ will be trying for the draw and against Murali they have little hope of surviving.

If theres no rain or more stoppage of play why bowl Murli, bowl him botu 20 and rest him, if theres raina dn stopagge in play then yes, bowl him more because NZ might be able to draw it so they will need wickets.

Cause SL depend a lot on him and hes use to the workload as he usually has to bowl 30+ overs each inns every match.

Depends on the situation this one is the last Test match for SL for a while so no problem for him here. And usually it's needed cause SL depend on him so much even here they probably will need him as the pacemen aren't looking too threatening.

Well he has a wicket, so Jaywardene 1 and you 0

But Martin Crowe is maiing some good points about Murili, from the naked eye, that doesn't look like 15 degrees or else pretty close to it. I think he needs testing from video analysis. Nothing against Murili, but jeez, I never realised the band was that much. We know Martin hates chuckers.

The openers really should have gone on there, they both got starts and had a chance to setup a solid base for the rest. This is Fleming's chance to shine in this series with a captains knock.

New Zealand Squad for the two Twenty/20's
Stephen Fleming (capt)
Andre Adams
Nathan Astle
Shane Bond (Wellington, Dec 22)/Michael Mason (Auckland, Dec 26)
James Franklin
Peter Fulton
Mark Gillespie
James Marshall
Brendon McCullum (wk)
Peter McGlashan
Jeetan Patel
Ross Taylor

The squad is named. Interesting side as well. Some of the interesting ones are Adams who I am VERY happy to see. He is a great all-rounder who I think this game was half made for. Aggressive bowler and aggressive batsman. Some English people may of seen him play county cricket, had a good summer over there too.

James Marshall also, twin brother of Hamish Marshall. He is probably a bit more aggressive then Hamish. He would of made the side and will fill the middle order and is a great fielder like his brother. The selectors obviously want a look at him.

Jeetan Patel, it was expected Vettori would rest these matches and Patel is an exciting spinner to watch. Heaps of Potential, gets a lot of spin.

Ross Taylor and Peter Fulton, two of the best performers in domestic cricket recently, aggressive players, especially Taylor No surprise seeing these two, they will be playing for ODI spots.

Peter McGlashan is a wicket keeper and has the domestic record for quickest century in a twenty/20. McCullum is playing as a specalist batsman for these matches and it will be interesting to see McGlashan.

Shane Bond will play the first match but then rest in preparation for the ODI series with Mason comming in to take his place. Good move. He obviously was keen on playing one.

And Gillespie we still are yet to see after makingthe Champions Trophy squad. Death bowling specalist. Not terribly fast but accurate.

Should be an interesting series. My 12 would have been the same except with Hamish Marshall instead of James Marshall. lol No real difference, but I think Hamish Marshall may as well be the one they play since they have persevered with him for so long. Maybe even Craig McMillan since he has been in good form and I like him. Maybe even Chris Harris just for fun. he was a good performer in the Twenty/20 competition last year. Lou Vincent is unlucky to miss out, but with McCullum opening I can see why he isn't needed. I like the idea of keeping Vincent for the ODI tour though.

Isn't Sinclar a big hitter? i might be over my head but i thought he was, heard of james adam but forgot what he bowl, is it medium pacers?

Great to see Ross Taylor given a go hes a real talent and can score very quickly.
First time I've heard of McGlashan will be interesting seeing how he goes.
Andrew Adams has been on fire for Auckland with the ball so he should be a good addition and should be in the ODI side.

I know who he is I just put the W on there for some reason ;)
Hes a good death bowler and is a dam decent hitter, played in the VB series last time NZ were here.
