Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand

Okay, Fantastic batting at the start, great entertainment.

In the middle stages we were let down by James Marshall (who may offer something in the field), but really, Peter McGlashan was absolutly terrible. I will pray McCullum never gets injured. McGlashan was trying to slog and looked terrible out there.

Taylor was a bit of the same, trying to sweep Murili ball after ball. Not good! Now we have to settle for an average score. Our bowlers should be better than the Sri Lankans but you never know what'll happen.

Franklin being promoted semi-worked, wasn't such a bad idea but maybe it was better getting a batsman in.

Must be saving Malinga for the one dayers I guess.

I hope the finish is as exciting as New Zealands last Twenty20 match.

Also, how long has Srinath been Match Refereeing for?

Two catches down off Bond :( He coulda had 3. Franklin and Taylor the culprits. But Flemings catch was fantastic captaincy, bowling and catching.

This could really cost us. Those two catches. Jaysuria and Jaywardene and its raining, we would have been favourable for the DL thing.

NZ start was simply amazing just smashing it all over play, McCullum looked good in the opening role will have to see how he goes in the ODI arena but in the 20/20 one he was perfect.

SL started off okay but not as quick and Kiwis have dropped one already.
Rain in a 20/20 match, this makes things interesting.

They should be off, this rain is heavy as. You can't play cricket in the rain, of any form.

Well it's actually the Kiwis staying out there as they know if they leave the field the lose.
It's making it impossible to grip the ball.
Sanath grabbed his 50 in just 23 balls top effort that, SL then ask to go off.

No it wasn't. The Umpires made the decision to go off, not us, and Jaywardene asked the umpires to go off.

That over from Adams was loose, not like him. He has the most Twenty/20 experiance in the side almost i'd say. He couldn't hold the ball.

23 ball fifty for Jaysuriya, and Franklin dropped a sitter :/ They say catches win matches.

I said NZ wanted to stay on - yes that was the case
SL asked to go off - yes, straight after Jaywardene ask to go off, the umpires talk to each other and confirm it's time to go off.

Sri Lanka win by DL.

I don't know how 6 overs, the powerplay ones can consitute a result. The DL doesn't take into account the fact that slower bowlers are most effective.

Even so, we would have won if we had of taken those catches and I wouldn't of been complaining.

Oh well, I look forward to Boxing Day.

Squad for first two ODIs Daniel Vettori (captain), Andre Adams, Nathan Astle, Peter Fulton, Mark Gillespie, Hamish Marshall, James Marshall, Michael Mason, Brendon McCullum, Jeetan Patel, Ross Taylor, James Franklin.

Why is fleming resting? are srilanka that bad a side.

He has a slight strain on his forearm apparantly. But they wil lwant him for the game svs Aussie, so now is the best time to rest him and give Vettori some more experiance with captaincy. Bond is just being rested, no injuries :)

The side looks good for a B team. Of course, without Styris, Oram, Fleming, Mills and Bond we are 5 of our better players down. It'll give the others a good chance. I hope both Marshalls play because it's always good fun seeing them in the field. I also hope like hell Hamish can get some big scores. He is one of the more experianced in the side now so he needs to step up. He has such talent, averages over 50 so far in this years domestic competition. I really like the guy.

We may finally get a look at Gillespie and another look at Taylor where he won't be under pressure to score.

I want this starting XI

James Marshall,
Nathan Astle,
Ross Taylor,
Peter Fulton,
Hamish Marshall,
Brendon McCullum,
Daniel Vettori (captain),
James Franklin.
Andre Adams / Jeetan Patel (Depends on what the wicket looks like.)
Mark Gillespie,
Michael Mason,

I think the extra batsman is needed to cover for the loss in experiance of Fleming and because we ar emissing Styris and Oram.

Will be very interesting to see how these new guys go and to have another look at some who are back in the side.

I'd say Sri Lanka are a damn good bunch after what they did against England :p
I guess the rotation policy (which they probably adopted from the Australians) is a good idea as they have a hectic schedule of ODI's. They got this series against the Sri Lankans, then the Commonwealth Bank Series and then back home for the Chappel-Hadlee series. Then afterwards is of course the WC.

Nothing wrong with SL odi team they will cause any good team problems. With so many ODI games for the Kiwis and this only being the start of their run of ODI games now is the time to see what other guys can do.
