Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand

Good performance today. Promicing signs for the bowling attack. Gillespie will hopefully be alright, because he was very impressive. Infact all four were, I am struggling to choose which was the best of them.

The batting is still a little worrying. Fulton, whilst he hit that massive six into the top of the grandstand played a poor stroke. He has such potential but threw his wicket away. He made easy singles and easy boundaries up til then. Taylor was run out, unfortonatly.

Whilst McCullum has done well, I still am a little iffy about him opening an ODI. They can try him, sure but I think we lose a lot from the bottom order. Astle and Fleming were back at their best, Fleming really went out playing a shot which will happen. Still he looked great was unlucky. McGlashan was poor again. Lets just hope McCullum doesn't get injured.

SL paid for resting some players. But even so, we were missing Oram, Mills, Bond, Styris, Vettori so even more of our side were out anyway.

Taylor is looking damn impressive by the sounds of it. 3 big sixes already.

Thats the potential that a lot of Kiwis have seen in him. He should stable up that Kiwi batting lineup which has been a problem for them lately.

Taylor's knock has come at the right, since they were about one or two spots in the New Zealand team that need players like him.

It seems that New Zealand will score above 300 runs now.

Vass and Murali have just changed thing, Vass missed his hatrick ball but picked up Vettori and James. Taylor still there so 300 is possible but he needs to get that 100 soon.

Dramatic collapse there. Six wickets fell in no time, in about 10 overs. But Taylor got his century and is not selfish, since he is hitting boundaries.

It will be tough for New Zealand to reach 300 runs, but about 288-290 runs is reachable.

I wouldn't call it a collapse as it came at the end of an ODI innings. Usually you get players going out playing shots. James Marshall got a bad decision, that was obviously missing leg stump. Bad luck for him.

Taylors innings was fantastic. You don't see them much better then that. Unfortonatly for him he got cramp and it restricted his batting very badly. Otherwise we would have made 300. He could hardly move at the crease even.

I think this was a key example why McCullum SHOULDN'T open for us. I would much rater he batted down the order myself because in this situation we needed him. If anything they should have HIM at 5 and not Vettori so he has time to play himself in. The Vettori thing didn't work because Jaywardene put the quicks onto him. He is a very good player of spin which is why I think they sent him in earlier.

Fulton and H Marshall played well for their cameos, both unlucky, mainly Fulton to a ball which kept low. Marshall got done by a slowerball trying to get to 300.

Vaas bowled really well, he was really the only bowler who caused us any problems. Even Murili was ineffective, and easy to score from today.

We would have made 300 with our normal bunch of guys down the order. So Promising signs. At least it leaves the match evenly poised and we will see which of the bowlers are up to it.

I think the right side was picked, but the batting order was wrong. Hamish Marshall should have been in when Vettori came in, and then James and then Vettori. But thats experimentation for you, you never know how things will turn out.

Against Sri Lanka's best bowling attack they have that was a good effort. With their best possible batting side and our B side bowling attack you would expect them to easily polish the runs off. We shall see. Will be no excuses for them not to.

It was a good thing that Taylor staid on till the end, otherwhile New Zealand would have struggled even to make 260 runs. Vaas and Malinga bowled well in the end, although Vaas got hit for 14 runs in his final over.

McCullum opening does sound good, I didn't see his inns so can't comment on his latest opening stint. Was it something like Afridi as there was a 4 and a 6?

Congrats to Taylor on such a good knock.

SL making a dam good fist of this total though, almost going at 10 an over!

Sri Lankan openers are hitting the Kiwi bowling attack.

I expected this, since the pitch sounded flat.

WOW Jayasuria and Tharanga are murdering the Kiwi bowling attack, going at a RR of 9.4, amazing

They can blame it on theirselves, since they wanted to experiment by resting some players. Jayasuriya is nearing his century.

i think if SL were batting first we might have seen another 400+ score in ODI's... anyways Vetorri bowling now, lets see what he does
