Which of these batsmen deserves to be selected in Pakistan's Test squad?

It's so disappointing to not see Junaid Khan and Fawad Alam in the squad!!

I worry our middle order might be weak without Fawad, and Usman Salluddin hasn't really been the same calibre of player.

Its a pretty balanced squad for this series as you can afford to give youngster chances, but this squad isn't free from some blunders as expected. The biggest cricketing culprit here is Wahab Riaz who have been given preference over Junaid Khan. It has been highly unfair with the bowler since Inzy has taken up the role of chairman of selectors. He has been our prime bowler and after getting fit and performing so great in the one day cricket, He deserved the chance first before "The Wahab Riaz"

In my view, I can accept not inducting Shehzad here, Its good that Shan Masood, Sami Aslam have grabbed chances as these are more younger blood for the test cricket, but Shehzad should have been selected as a third opener though. Azhar Ali is no specialist opener... and Shehzad deserved another test run after the windies test series. The middle order looks good with Haris, Azam, Shafiq and Azhar Ali. Shafiq needs more consistency, I haven't seen Usman Salahuddin yet, Anyone has?

On another note, I have all the respect for Inzy as a player for sure and Overall he has been proved a good enough selector so far, But on the flip side, We can notice that Inzy has been more concerned about inducting Salman Butt back in the squad than caring about the other fresh openers who deserve chances more enough than Butt itself. Butt is no middle order batsman and the only way you can induct him back is when you forcefully exclude one good opener from the squad, So if Shan or Sami doesn't perform in this series, Will Inzy give chance to Salman Butt before Ahmed Shahzad in the test squad? Its obvious that Salman But will perform good in A squad. Does he really deserve a deserving chance? First Inzy forced Kamran Akmal's selection despite concerns from Mickey Arthur I believe, Now it seems that Inzy is after one of the openers to give Salman Butt chance back, Just waiting for the right time.

I feel like that Salman Butt should only given chance if Pakistan gets too short from openers.. Like if all the available openers from the huge talent lot perform so miserably only then Salman can be given a chance but I wonder why Inzy is talking about Salman Butt at this stage when you have all your openers set and fresh... He should get a deserving chance rather than a forced chance

Upon Fawad Alam, I think The selection management have made up a mind of not having him in any of the three formats

It's not the selectors. It's someone in the PCB. Same with Sadaf Hussain. Selectors have changed, PCB hasn't.

Moreover, I noticed that Sarfraz wasn't so appreciative about Junaid Khan in one of the Interviews as well. I think Junaid has been restricted to only One day cricket apparently and if he doesn't perform too well in the coming ODIS, Boy they will exclude him from one days as well altogether. I believe that Junaid and Aamir pair can be lethal and it can become a World Class bowling Pair but Alas.... We will see though in the coming matches.

There's just so much nepotism and corruption in the administration, but i don't understand why they would want to keep out good players. What will they gain from selecting average players like Masood, whose father works in the government. For all this to be change, we need a Prime Minister who cares about cricket and reforming cricket administration, and not about placing his allies in the PCB.

My X1 for the first test match

1. Sami Aslam
2. Shan Masood
3. Azhar Ali
4. Babar Azam
5. Haris Sohail
6. Asad Shafiq
7. Sarfraz Ahmed
8. Aamir
9. Yasir Shah
10. Abbas
11. Hasan Ali

Batting is where Pakistan can struggle, especially in middle-order. Fawad Alam was the 1st choice after Mis-You retirement...

Abbas isn't very quick. He is more suited to English and Pakistani conditions (in domestic cricket, most wickets are greentops, plus the QEA Trophy is played in the winter, which means overcast conditions). Although from the WI series it seems that he can bowl well with the old ball too.
