Tamil Music/Movie Thread

Saw Maan Karathe, a very mediocre film but a commercial success. It has good comedy and most of the people in TN are watching it. Fantasy elements are done really great but the film would have been good if the screenplay in the middle has been built interestingly. Second half is awfully predictable. Ethir Neechal was a better comical film and it connected with me emotionally. This film didn't give the feel of it.

I cannot really believe how a non-boxer can go all the way and knockout a professional boxer.
Commercialism. The film is a hit.

These films that Sivakarthikeyan does are all pretty similar to what he does in Vijay TV - filled with comical moments. Even if it doesn't have a story, people dont care because the comical moments keep them entertained and they come out with a good feeling about the film.

But at some point, it will stop working (because audience will get bored if they see the same thing from someone over and over again) and Sivakarthikeyan will eventually go back to TV. If he is wise enough, he will switch over to comedian roles if he wants to last long in his cinema career.

I need to check it out, I've really been doing a horrible job at keeping track of Tamil movies in recent times it seems...

You have actually done a fine job. Stay away from any Tamil Cinema off late, i have been away too. Just hearing reviews from people and totally lost interest. I am waiting for Sid's Jigirdhanda. The movie is not really to my taste but being a big fan of Sid, i would surely watch it FD.

Watched Maan Karathe a good comedy flim.Siva has improved his acting skills along with dance(Really in making of a another mass hero) over all totally enjoyed it in middle of my studies pressure.:thumbs

Sathish done well this time. Soori too.

Yup both of them also did a good job, especially soori who was a surprise in climax.

Tamil cinema is actually doing well in recent times. I see a lot more meaningful films here than in Bollywood. Vijay Sethupathi films (like Soodhu Kavvum, Pannaiyarum, etc) are very good films. And the good movies like Goli Soda, Thegidi, etc are still coming up. The first half this year has not had big releases. Once the big films start coming, it will be more exciting. Heard that Naan Sigappu Manidhan is good. I liked Vishal's last one "Pandiya Naadu".

P.s: Oh yes by the way, your favorite genre of Tamil films is on the downslide. The 'romance' season is slowly fading out of Tamil cinema. Now, its more about realism, comedy and action thrillers.

Guess what, two most deadly director-music directors are back together, after having issues with each other in recent times!

Gautham Menon - Harris Jayaraj
Selvaraghavan - Yuvan Shankar Raja

GVM - Harris are back for Ajith's next film (Anushka heroine, actor Arun Vijay as villian). Selva - Yuvan are back with Simbhu and Trisha as the lead pair. Both films should be very exciting, more so the Ajith one which is a deadly combination. Ajith was to do Kaakha Kaakha with Gautham and Harris, but that landed up finally with Surya. This time too its a cool action thriller. Hoping for the best! Harris badly needs this film as his recent work has started going down the drain. This could resurrect him. I still love his music. He is one of those guys, who like Rahman, knows the pulse of the audience like the back of his hand and gives pleasing scores that stick to you like glue.

Watched Naan Sigappu Manithan, a different attempt. It's not for family audience. The plot is somewhat flawed.

Watched 'Maan Karate' finally. God awful film, except for a few saving grace comic sequences in the first half/early second half. The story to start with, is downright silly. Its surprising that AR Murugadoss wrote up the story for this film. Few guys asking for a boon from a saddhu in a forest, and that guy serves up Dinathanthi paper which is a futuristic paper. Enna yosana da?

Sivakarthikeyan cant be a hero. The peak he is seeing right now is purely luck. But one thing that he is excellent at - comedy. And the saving grace that I mentioned in this movie are the same comic sequences between him and Satish & co., and also the scenes between him and Soori. Siva sucks at romance, and even in the serious scenes in the end, he is so plastic and artificial. Wish someone puts sense into him that comedy is his forte and he can be a true Santhanam successor if he ventures into full time comedian role.

Music is OK (nowhere upto Anirudh standards) and none of the songs impressed (due to Siva's failed attempt at being hero).

I think I should stop here. I just wasted whatever time the movie duration was, on this. 1/5

Kadhal Ara Onnu Vizundhuchu song in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum flim is awesome, something different after long time in both visual & music IMO.
