Tamil Music/Movie Thread

It(theme music) is copied from kutti puli theme

Some say "Kutti Puli", some say "Kochadaiiyaan". To me, it sounds very much like Anirudh's own "Theme of 3" from the movie "3" starring Dhanush. Its just a minor deviation from that theme. I know Anirudh's creativity is not the best in the industry, but his music is catchy enough to keep you entertained.

Disagree! Even if Nanban was an original film, it would not be on par with his efforts in Ghilli or Thuppakki or Kadhaluku Mariyadhai. Even Kushi and Priyamanavale were better than Nanban.

It was definitely his best performance as an actor.

Yes even he copies the base of some songs he is still manages to make catchy

Seriously Epic? No way! To me, his best acting performances (which are very rare and few) are from Priyamanavale, Poove Unakkaga and Priyamudan. Nanban is nowhere near! Vijay is more of a star who entertains. Same as Rajnikanth, whose acting performances are also few and far (Thalapathy, Netrikann, Baasha).

I was a kid when I saw those films lol, I remember more of Priyamanavale than I do Poove Unakkaga, mainly because it was a family favorite and I saw a lot of it, and I don't think I ever saw Priyamudan (read the plot on Wiki, doesn't ring a bell), so maybe if I saw those films now I'd have a different opinion, but from what I can remember from those films, his performance in Nanban tops it.

Watched Arma Nambi, brilliant screen play by Anand Shankar,4.5/5.:thumbs

'Arima Nambi' - Excellent Movie! Very well executed screenplay by AR Murugadoss's assistant Anand Shankar (director of this movie). Vikram Prabu and Priya Anand are very good in their roles. The refreshing thing is that, apart from Vikram Prabu (who is the hero), no one single actor hogs the rest of the limelight. The role assignment for each other actor is well balanced out. Only drawback is that, this movie's songs are forgettable. Not one song registers. A very Thuppakki'ish feeling with the way the movie's dialogues and screenplay runs (which is good).

4/5

Finally catching up on some new Tamil films.

'Vadacurry' - above average comedy flick. The comedy is very "Venkat Prabu" style (the director here is Saravana Rajan, Venkat Prabu's associate). RJ Balaji is a laugh riot whenever he comes in the film. Jai is very good in a few scenes and decent overall. Swathi has no role to play. The problems with the mobile phone is captured in a rip roaring manner. The story at times is silly, and the screenplay is a typical Venkat Prabu style screenplay (starts off with comedy, then gets into serious drama). Again as with Arima Nambi, none of the songs register. Second half lags at a few places and the climax is executed in lame fashion. Can be watched purely for the comedy (more so in the first half).

3.5/5

Watched a comparatively old movie, "Onaayum Aattukuttiyum", Awesome movie bv Mysskin. This is one of the few movies that made me start watching the movie with a "wow!" and end it with a tear in my eye... Superb Plot, awesome screenplay and of course fantastic acting. Mysskin just lived as the assassin ( The Wolf) on screen and Sri too was brilliant as the Naive, good and always ready to help guy (The Lamb) on the screen. I also loved the way Mysskin rolled out the credits for the movie aliasing the people in and who made the movie to the various creature of the Jungle. Last but not the Least, the Background score by Ilayaraja just took the movie to a different level. People who are not looking for the typical commercial masala potboilers will love this, it will be a treat for them... I would definitely give this one a 4 on 5. A must watch for people who love dark, practical suspense thrillers.

"Velai Illa Pattadhaari' - Padam thaar maar, biriyani soorrrrrr..... :D:cheers:thumbs Saying this doesn't mean its an offbeat film or different film, etc. Its a typical Tamil commercial entertainer where the poor takes on the rich and their poor vs rich stereotype. But if you want good popcorn entertainment with a fiery performance from the lead actor, great songs, terrific BGM's, a good looking heroine, go no further.

Dhanush delivers a mighty strong performance. I have really enjoyed Dhanush's recent box office failures like 3 and Maryan (I dont care if they are flops; I dont get money if a film is a BO hit; all it matters is if I like it or not). As an actor, Dhanush is priceless. He can do anything and everything. This role is a cakewalk for him, but even then, he stamps authority with a thunder. Anirudh's BGM's are strong, just so strong. The fight BGM in the first half when Dhanush fights in front of his mom is just MASS! Songs are all big hits now, but the Amma Amma song is so moving. Amala Paul looks beautiful. She does have a decent role in the first half, but disappears in the 2nd. Vivek's role is too tiny, but his chemistry with Dhanush is as good as ever.

Negatives - the villian is such a mediocre actor. There are quite some cliched scenes in the second half, and the 2nd half doesnt quite match the awesomeness of the first half. But for me, it was not unbearable. Dhanush stands tall and makes things feel good. I am tempted to give it 4/5 (anything higher might feel a little too much). My opinion!:yes

I completely agree with you Marna Mass VIP.:thumbs

The songs of VIP just sound so much better after watching the film. Very well picturized, each song. Favorite ones would be 'Udhungada Sangu', 'Po Indru Neeyaga' and 'Amma Amma'.

On a sidenote, Anjaan songs are pretty good. Liked 'Bang Bang Bang' on first listen itself. Have to somehow tolerate Yuvan's creepy voice in "Kaadhal Aasai" but the song itself is good. "Oru Kan Jaadai" is good too with good guitars, the rest are mediocre.

Perfectly agree! Awesome movie by Anand Shankar and superb acting by both Vikram Prabhu( the Protagonist) and J.D.Chakkaravarthy ( The Antagonist). Especially loved J.D's acting as the suave , calm but ruthless villain. Loved M.S. Bhaskar as the righteous cop though he came on the movie only for a little amount of time. Felt that the song "Idhayam" was unnecessary at the point it came. I would definitely give it a 4.5 on 5 , a 4 for the movie and an extra .5 for the time at which it came, a time when good movies in Tamil were hard to come by.

Jigarthanda!
Was able to sit in the theater just for the mere presence of one of my most favorite actor of all time Siddharth.
A too local movie, miserable screenplay and no story whatsoever.
Songs were horrible, actually they weren't songs, it was just some words being spoken, Lakshmi Menon did not have anything to do literally. Karunakaran's comedy was the only saving grace in the lengthy dragging movie.
A comedy action movie, wasted one!
Would rate it 0.5/5 and that too for Sid!

Jigarthanda is not in your horizon of the movies that you like. I am also not interested in it. I am just not a fan of movies like Pizza, Soodhu Kavvvum, Jigarthanda, etc. Most of these movies try the Tarantino influence, but I dont enjoy the Tarantino style movies frankly. But cant deny that such films have its audience.
