England off to a great start - 36/0

England off to a great start - 36/0

6thoverscore3pa.jpg

England are off to a great start scoring at 6 runs an over so far, having scored 36/0 in their 6 overs! Pakistan who started off well with Sami and Ul Hasan bowling a tight line in the first two overs! But the third over opened the floodgates with Trescothick cracking two boundaries off Sami. Strauss too joined in hitting Ul Hasan to the cover boundary! Razzaq was introduced early by Inzamam and bowled a solitary tidy over. But in the 5th over, Ul Hasan again gave away too many runs as Pakistan struggled to get used to the conditions of extreme swing and the damp wicket!

Sensational collapse for England!

Sensational collapse by England - Pakistan on top!

Finally, the game lived up to the reputation of being a bowler's paradise! But the collapse by England was more sensational than what it should have been! In the space of 4 overs, England lost 5 wickets for just 4 runs to now look a sitting duck to the Pakistani bowlers! It all started with the wicket fo Strauss who was caught brilliantly at midwicket off Razzaq. Vaughan came in but was as much fast to go when he impatiently hoisted Razzaq to the hands of the deep long on!

The other England batsmen werent just allowed to settle down. Trescothick was done in by a Naved special swinger that moved a shade into Trescothick and took his off stump! Next to go was Solanki who made the same mistake of Vaughan trying to loft to deep long on and was easily caught! Finally, Pietersen followed his predecessors Vaughan and Solanki and impatiently lofted Sami only to be caught at deep midwicket!

Pakistan require 81 runs to win!

Pakistan rout England - need 81 runs to win

engscorecard6kl.jpg

Pakistan's bowlers rout England in a superb spell of spin bowling! Malik, Afridi and Kaneria shared 4 wickets between them and had it not been for Gough's plucky innings, England would have been routed for an even worser score! After England were 41/5 in the 10th over, England completely stopped attacking the Pakistani bowlers. Then the spinners Malik and Kaneria were introduced. Both got heavy purchase from this wicket. Malik trapped Kaneria LBW in front of the wicket! Then in the same over, Jones completely missed a Malik turner to be bowled for 0.

Then Flintoff was trapped plumb in front by Kaneria for 3. It was an utter shambles display by England who just collapsed on a not so poor wicket! Darren Gough came in at that precarious moment but he put in a great effort in propping up the England total! He smashes two sixes of the Pakistani spinners!

Pakistan 39/2 from 5 overs

Good start - Pakistan 39/2 from 5 overs

pakbattingentry2iq.jpg

Pakistan have made the right start towards the small target of 81 with a speedy display but have lost both their openers in the process! Afridi and Butt opened the batting for Pakistan. Afridi freed his arms and spanked two boundaries off Gough's first over. But in the quest to flick Harmison, Afridi was out LBW when the score was 11/0!

Inzamam Ul Haq came in next and England had to bear the brunt of his huge blade as Inzamam spanked Gough to two huge sixes into the stands! It was a brutal display of batting from Inzamam who looked obviously to exploit the fielding restrictions as strokeplay was very difficult on this wicket! Butt at the other end, looked hopelessly out of touch as he prodded to deliveries full in length! Finally Butt was out LBW to Gough ending his misery at the middle. Butt was out for 4 and Pakistan 39/2

Pakistan require 42 runs to win off 15 overs! Should be an easy task!

Pakistan in serious trouble - 55/5

England back in the game - Pakistan 55/5 in 10 overs

10overscoreaki3pq.jpg

The pendulum so far in this match has swung on either side of the coin with England now coming back into the game with three very quick wickets! It was again more attributed to Pakistan's carelessness than the wicket's terror. First to go was Inzamam who was cleaned up by Harmison. It was a straight yorker which Inzamam over confidently tried to straight drive, but ended up missing it altogether to be bowled!

Youhana did not stay for long as he was trapped LBW by a Gough outswinger that was in line with Youhana's off stump! Youhana tried to flick Gough through midwicket but the ball was a trifle quicker to rap Youhana on his pads and the umpire had no hesitation whatsoever in declaring Youhana out because it was a wet wicket and the ball couldnt have rose any higher! It was a disappointing end for Youhana!

Abdur Razzaq was run out in the most freakish of circumstances. Razzaq missed a ball from Flintoff down the leg side which could have easily been called a wide! Jones fumbled the ball behind the wicket and Razzaq sensing that, took off. But Jones was quick on his feet to recover and zoomed at the ball and threw it at the striker's stumps in a jiffy. Razzaq, who tried to regain his crease failed and the umpire ruled him out!

Pakistan need 27 runs to win in 10 overs!

Should be an easy task but they have only 5 wickets in hand!
