Pakistan in trouble at 77/9 needing 4 more runs to win with 1 wicket in hand!
Will they win it? Naved Ul Hasan and Danish Kaneria at the crease with Flintoff and Collingwood bowling!
ENGLAND WIN A SENSATIONAL MATCH BY JUST 2 RUNS!
What a turnaround scripted by England to win the match? After a sensational collapse at which England lost their 10 wickets for just 80 runs in 20 overs, England overcame that collapse and instead collapsed Pakistan for 78 runs by which they win by 3 meagre runs! IT was a fine comeback for England and a script that left Pakistanis shocked!
After Pakistan were 55/5, Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik were fighting the battle for Pakistan. But Flintoff stuck with a big reverse swinging yorker that crashed into Younis Khan's stumps. Younis Khan didnt know from where the ball was coming from and was left with only option to go back to the pavilion! Next to come in was Kamran Akmal whose wicket changed the whole game for both the teams! Akmal made an impatient dash at Giles only to miscue the ball to the mid off fielder at the circle! It was a reckless shot and one which turned the tables on Pakistan! Mohammed Sami came in and departed next ball when Vaughan held on to a brilliant front diving catch at square leg. Giles was on a hat trick but Ul Hasan negated the hat trick ball! But Shoaib Malik, his more illustrous partner could not remain for long as he was also caught by the England captain, Vaughan at square leg this time to a more straightforward catch! And the last man to go was Ul Hasan who was trapped leg before wicket by Vaughan who finished things off!
It was a sensational collapse and barring Inzamam, no one even reached double figures! Pakistan cut a sorry figure in the end when they were coasting to victory and should have probably won it a lot more easier than what they were predicted to be! For England Gough, Harmison and Giles picked up 2 wickets each whearas Flintoff, Collingwood and Vaughan picked up a solitary wicket each!
Presentation Ceremony:
Dean Jones: Welcome to the sensational match between England vs Pakistan! IT was an outstanding win for England who won a nail biting contest by just 2 runs! First of all I would like to call upon the Pakistan captain, Inzamam. How did you lose today, Inzamam?
Inzamam: It is just shocking to have lost after being in a position to win! It would take time for the boys to accept it! The wicket wasnt of playing standards at all!
Dean Jones: What was Akmal doing dancing down when the required rate was only 2 per over?
Inzamam; Yes. It was a rash shot and Akmal was severely criticised for playing that way! But it all happens on the day and we cant brag about it much!
Dean Jones: Thankz Inzy! Now to the England captain, Vaughan. A great win Vaughan!
Vaughan: Absolutely! Its so thrilling to win the match after being in a position where we should have lost! Credit to the boys!
Dean Jones: Did the wicket behave badly as said by Inzamam?
Vaughan: True that the wicket was tough to bat, but wasnt as dangerous as the opposition captain says it to be! It was very low bounce but you get such wickets when you have continuous rain!
Dean Jones:Thanks Vaughan! Now for the man of the match! It Gough for his all round performance. Great job done, Gough!
Darren Gough: Its great to contribute to a victory for England! I never thought we would win today! Its all due to our fielding today which was brilliant and aptly led by Vaughan!
Dean Jones: You have had your share of injuries. How does it feel now to play for the side?
Gough: Injuries have bogged me down but my love playing for England outweighs anything else! Its always great representing my country!
SACHIN TENDULKAR MAKES A COMEBACK AFTER TENNIS ELBOW INJURY
Sachin : Back into the thick of action!
Considering one among the best batsman in the world by millions of fans worldwide, India's Master Blaster and god's own gift to Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar makes a comeback to Indian cricket aftera 6 month layoff due to a tennis elbow injury! He last played for India against Pakistan on April 17th 2005 and also had a surgery on his left hand for the tennis elbow injury and hasnt played since then! His comeback boosts the Indian side who have been bogged down by recent controversies between the former captain, Ganguly and coach Greg Chappell! Tendulkar's presence is said to add a lot of stability to the side and the youngsters thrive on performing better when he is around in the dressing room!
Sachin : Recovered from a tennis elbow injury!
In a career spanning 16 years, Tendulkar has seen everything that a top international cricketer goes through in his career - a flurry of runs, centuries, wickets, failures, criticism, injuries, loss of form, etc. Tendulkar, considered the fittest of the Indian cricketers, has been recently bogged down by injuries. It can be attributed to the wear and tear of international cricket! But he has been an exemplary person, always having the determination to come back big! He is going to be of prime importance if India are to challenge for the trophy here in Australia!
SCG : Set for a great battle!
The Sydney cricket ground is the centre of all attention as it is to host one of the big matches of the competition, between India and South Africa. Both teams are among the top international teams and it promises to be a nail biting contest! The wicket looks to be one which will make Shane Warne lick his lips. It is a turning wicket and the team batting first should ideally post a big score and use their spinners to devastating effect against the team batting second! India have Harbhajan and Murali Kartik to rely on whearas South Africa dont have many class options in the spin department! So the team that wins the toss should ideally bat first!

what a win for pakistan, i dont think the picth would of pleased Inzy
India now take on the resurgent South Africans in the first match of the encounter at the Sydney cricket ground here in Australia! India has been bogged down in recent times by off the field happenings - the spat between the coach and captain grabbing the world's headlines, the bickering Indian cricket board politics, etc. Added to that, the pain of losing one final after another bogs India down so much that they seem to have forgotten how to win!
Rahul Dravid and Graeme Smith were at the toss with Allan Border! Dravid won the toss and rightly decided to bat first on this dusty wicket which would heavily deteoriate as the match progresses. Here is what Dravid had to say "The wicket looks a good one for the spinners and they should get heavy purchase as the match progresses."
India go into this match with two spinners - Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik!
Finally India playing its first match. I think going with five bowlers has made the batting look a bit weak. I think sehwag, Yuvraj and sachin can share the burden of fifth bowler and India only need four specialist bowlers. It will be exciting to see Pathan at No.4.
India in some sort of a trouble facing South African spinners Boje and Rudolph. Wonder what Harbhajan and Kartik combined with Sehwag do on this wicket?
India in some sort of a trouble facing South African spinners Boje and Rudolph. Wonder what Harbhajan and Kartik combined with Sehwag do on this wicket?
The Indian hopes of setting a sizeable total is being kept alive by India's new all round sensation, Irfan Pathan who has been promoted up the order in a surprise move to unsettle the opposition by the mastermind coach Greg Chappell. Tendulkar and Sehwag started off well but Tendulkar was out of the very second delivery of his innings when he mistimed his shot and was caught at mid wicket!
Sehwag was also out within quick time as Dravid's decision to bat first after winning the toss was starting to look a wrong one. Pathan and Dravid then put up a good partnership. Dravid in particular was more aggressive of the two, coming out and hitting shots all along the ground. Pathan too rubbed off some of the aggression from Dravid and hit some great shots which left the South African seamers dazzled!
But as it happens, Dravid was out at a very inopportune moment and Yuvraj Singh joined Pathan in the middle. But Yuvraj couldnt stay for long in the middle as Rudolph bowled one beauty and cleaned Yuvraj up around his legs as India lost one more wicket and were pushed to a spot of bother. The scoring rate reduced considerably as the spinners Nicky Boje and Jacques Rudolph came on!
It was a very spirited display by South Africa as they restricted India to a reachable total of 127 which can be chased easily by the South African batsman. Had it not been for a late slogging, India could have ended up with an even smaller total! Irfan Pathan and Mohammed Kaif are joint top scorers with 31! After Pathan's wicket, Kaif and Dhoni hit a lot of breathtaking shots off the South African bowlers!
Kaif in his quest to clear Kallis out of the ground, saw his stumps being cleared out of the ground. He came down the wicket and attempted an utter stupid slog only to be bowled by Kallis for 31. His wicket started the slide for India! Dhoni also attempted a lofted shot but missed it and Boucher stumped his counterpart behind the wicket. Agarkar was caught at mid off brilliantly by Rudolph off Boje. Harbhajan was again caught at Rudolph this time at mid on off the bowling of Kallis. Murali Kartik stuck a few lusty blows but he was involved in a terrible mix up with Balaji and was run out for 16
For South Africa, Pollock, Boje, Rudolph and Kallis picked up 2 wickets each with Rudolph being the best with a more economical spell. South Africa now need 128 runs to win this match. They must be knowing that on this pitch, it is a definitely gettable total and must play their natural cricket and it should be no problems for them starting off their campaign with a victory!
