Tournment Ends

This is superb from Dhoni and Dravid, showing the true art of cricket. If this was a 20/20 they would all have been skittled out, but these two have stuck at it and have really dragged India, kicking and screaming to a decent(ish) score. This is why Tests >>> 20/20, you would never see this sort of batting display in a 20/20. Hope they both make big scores now :)

Shrav, it must be stupidly early for you to be up. That's dedication :p

You're probs jinxed Dhoni to get out now before 100 ;)

From cricinfo:

Sharnav Bani from Canada: "The transformation of test cricket over the past 15 years has been incredible. The fact that most teams nowadays maintain an average run rate of 3 or above in a test match, contributes to the number of wins/losses (as opposed to those in the 60's, 70's and 80's) we have had in the recent past. This is cricket at its best. Why watch a mindless T20 when you have players like Dravid making poetry in the middle of a cricket ground!"

So true :)

Dhoni played that maiden over to boos from the crowd, who are rooting for his hundred every ball. Get that, Dhoni!

Well, he is on strike now against Herath..... HERE WE GO!

Super shot.... AWESOME knock from MSD! :banana2:hpraise:hpraise:hpraise Awesome form from him too in tests. Adding this to his recent knock of 124 against Australia in ODI's, he is in great touch. His new found stable gameplay has really helped him a lot and the team.

Well played Dhoni :clap True captains knock :) I'm guessing it is road, from reading earlier posts in the thread?

No. The new ball still gives you help off the pitch. And Herath was getting good turn in an over where he almost flummoxed Dravid. The pitch is going to become more spin friendly as the game goes.

Nah, I wouldn't call it a road. If it was, do you think India would have been 32/4 ;). There was definitely enough movement early on and the commentators said that there is a tinge of green. That said, they did also say it's best to bat first on this wicket but they say that for pretty much every wicket, don't they. Should get progressively harder from here though.

Well, at least he got out after scoring his century. India still looking strong.

Unnecessary shot from Dhoni. Gives Sri Lanka some soothing balm after they have been sent on a leather hunt for most part of the day. Dhoni should have stayed on till declaration. The guy coming out now is Bhajji. Wonder what mood he is in. One more wicket and SL will feel a lot lot better at the end. Its all about the psychological edge.

Dhoni out but he has taken India to a good first innings total. India would feel that they`ve had a great day now with the score being close to 400, especially after being at 32/4 in the first session. This is some fightback by the side.

Now, if our bowlers can stick around for sometime, we should look to get to 450 which will be a very very good total. All in all, a cracking day`s play. Can`t wait to get back home for the highlights.

Great to see the Wall standing tall. This plot is eerily similar to the 2005 Ahmedabad test against the same opposition. India were 90/5 then and Laxman scored a hundred with the likes of Harbhajan,Kumble and Pathan chipping in with the bat. India went on to win that test by a 200+ margin.

Well you guys do like a good collapse just like us English ;)

This is why I was pissed at Dravid's exclusion for the Aussie series. He would have prevent those collapses from happening, like he showed vs Pakistan in CT, like he showed today. He's been different since he's come back.

DRAVID FTW!! :hpraise :D

90 overs, 385/6. Most runs India has EVER scored on Day 1 in Test Cricket... after being 32/4 !

Rahul Dravid stands out :hpraise

We like fight backs even better.:banana2

Can't agree more :clap

After lunch there wasn't much in the pitch for the bowlers, but the Indian batsmen have batted very well. The fact that they've scored so quickly todays means that their should easily be enough time to force a win even if the pitch stays as it is.
