Tri-series in West Indies - June/July 2013

I'd be willing to pick Yuvraj over DK if he shows a committment to fitness and improves his attitude. In recent times, Yuvraj has looked lazy - and he's looked fat. Seriously. He's looked fat. It's difficult to wrap my mind around that - I still have an image of him from somewhere around 2005.

Dhoni had to hide Yuvraj in the field the last time he played. Yuvraj should take that as a personal insult and at least try to be at the same levels of fitness and athleticism as he once was. That said, there is no doubting of the skill of Yuvraj, though with the advent of Ravindra Jadeja, the slow-bowling all-rounder role is already filled. Yes, Yuvraj is a far superior batsman, but now that he's less needed as a bowler puts more focus on his fielding skills, and there his decline makes him a liability to the team.

Even though Karthik is going through a purple patch, I'd like to have Yuvraj at that position instead him. He fills the only void left in the team. Can provide good part time overs and lusty blows down the order.

Yuvraj's current fitness standards will take us backwards in the fielding dept. Even before the cancer, Yuvraj's fielding fell due to his knee problems. Now it's down even further. His batting didn't click in the IPL at all. Unless he shows that old hunger and aggression, we don't need him back.

Even though he's less needed a a spin bowler now but he gives the extra spinner option when pitch starts turning. With Ashwin and Jadeja there already, opponents may try to go after him instead and loose wickets.
That being said, the fielding is indeed important and yes he looked fat. After watching India's fielding in CT13, it would be difficult for Yuvi to make it to the team just based on batting.

Extremely harsh on Yuvraj, he has been a dedicated servant to Indian cricket for a number of years and has won Team India many matches!

The Past, though it matters it matters only upto a certain extent, the present situation has to be taken into consideration here. Yuvraj has problems with his fielding now and has been going through a rough patch in his batting too, so he is not needed now for India. If he gets back his lost form, India will surely notice it.

Completely agree with you !!!

You want Yuvraj so that India loses matches and goes backward in terms of athleticism on the field?:rolleyes The current Yuvraj is nothing but a pale shadow of what he actually is. Garnered enough sympathy for his cancer (which was not even a life threatening one) and then didn't have the strength in him to get back to peak fitness. Even when he was without the cancer, his fielding levels fell dramatically. And the reason often given was his recurrent knee problems. He feared further knee injuries and so wouldn't indulge himself during fielding, which caused his fielding to dip dramatically.

But if there is one thing that makes me optimistic about Yuvraj, its his "never say die" attitude. He needed this kick on the backside, and it might spur him on to get fitter, hungrier and sharper.

If I'm happier than the person who has actually scored a century or a fifty, you understand that's the kind of atmosphere that you want, because at the end of the day, what we play is a team sport.

West Indies tri-series 2013 : MS Dhoni seeks continuation of India's success | Cricket News | West Indies Tri-Nation Series | ESPN Cricinfo

This statement from the Indian captain coincidentally collides with the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar from ODI cricket, this would be same for test cricket indian teams when t Sachin Tendulkar also retires from the game of test cricket.

Two guys I'm again looking forward to are Dinesh Chandimal are Darren Bravo. They still have a lot to prove in limited overs. Both of them have enormous talent.

None of the two had an impressive Champions Trophy, and they yet again failed to capitalize after getting starts, the position at which they come and bat, is crucial in such sort of matches!! Hope they find good form soon.

Shirkar Dhawan has finally failed after a couple of good early games in his career, his luck has ran out, his poor technique and shameful attitude would finally come to the fore in this Tri-series.

Oh My God! Please!! One can not be judged based on a single game alone!!! :facepalm

Don't react to him.:yes

By the way, good opportunity for other batsmen to get opportunity. Dhawan and Rohit made sure others didn't get enough opportunities during the Champions Trophy. This series should hopefully give them the chances. Also, Rohit Sharma should love WI conditions. He scored lots of runs the last few times he toured here for ODI's.

Rohit Sharma against the Windies, both away and home-
Matches 16
Runs 650
Avg 65
Innings (from first) 4 0 11 68* 7* 86* 39 57 72 90* 95 27 21 52

You have to say he's been quite good against them! In the last two ODI series b/w the two sides, he has won Man of the Series on both occasions . Expect something big today!

^^He shouldnt be there, Sammy didnt react to a catch off Rohit's glove. With match fixing in the open now, thinking Sammy should be investigated!
