Sharp sweeps Ipswich away

Ipswich Town succumbed to their fourth defeat in September, ending their modest two-game winning streak. Two goals from Billy Sharp, including a superb curling finish, and one from Michael Tonge, cancelled out and overturned Ian Westlake?s early opener.

Ipswich started the game brightly, scoring with their very first shot on target, Ian Westlake banging in a shot from the edge of the area. Unfortunately for the 27, 000 Town fans, that was all they could muster offensively, with their other four shots on target failing to trouble Irishman Paddy Kenny.

The Blades slowly began to get a firm grip on the game, squeezing the life out of the Ipswich side, which was weakened by Jason De Vos? poor game.

Michael Tonge hit an equalizer just before the break, and Billy Sharp gave Sheffield the lead seven minutes later.

It was Sharp?s second, however, which stole the show, two touches and a curling shot into the top-right hand corner, for a goal which is sure to win Goal of the Month.

Oh dear me, a poor result for Ipswich especially at home, I thought you would have at least got a draw in that game, what a shame!:crying

Fantastic writing mate, keep it up!:)

I tell ya, when I went 1-0 up so early I thought "Bring it on! A superb win against one of the best sides in the league!" And then, of course, we give it to them after conceding right at the end of the First Half.

Still, there are more games left this season, still in the relegation zone but inching closer by virtue of our goal difference being less-crap than those around us.

Well I'm back. Will need to speak to Ben if he's back and hopefully updates will be just around the corner :)

Excellent this has been my favourite story for a while and loved following it!

If all goes to plan, one of us should have an update tonight.
If all goes brilliantly, both of us should update tonight.

Sit tight, and Keep it Blue

Maney2k8 added 44 Minutes and 27 Seconds later...

Football is a very, very frustrating game. One minute things are brilliant, on course for another win in what has become a desperate season, the next, (or a little while later) you are staring defeat straight in its blank face and you are sucked a tiny bit further into the quagmire down at the bottom.

Brimming with confidence we were, Sheffield United, the Naarich of the North, would be no match for the train that is Ipswich Town.

Ian Westlake is a God amongst men, he is a really top guy, and he has already shown the sort of commitment I want to see from the guys. (See the FRIENDLY vs. Roma.) And he has a solid left foot, too.

1-0 up at Half Time would have been justified, but no; Tonge scores a pretty easy goal to tie it up going into the break and the momentum was not with our train, but rather their measly bike of a vehicle.

Enough with the means of transport from me; actually we can sneak another in: Billy ?The Rocket? Sharp bagged a couple of beauts! One of them will win Goal of the Month for September, guaranteed.

They were goals I was happy to lose to, but the fans saw it differently. The BBC Radio Suffolk phone-in was inundated with phone-calls saying how crap a job I?m doing, and I?m not going to lie, they do hurt, but I will try and shrug it off and win the next game.

Bring on QPR this Wednesday, and Col U on Saturday!

Keep it Blue!

I love this story. Just brilliant! Loving the update and glad its back!

Boothroyd grabs award with Watford at the top

Championship Review - September 2007

Adrian Boothroyd picked up the September 'Manager of the Month' award, his Watford side gained 10 points and finished top of the table in the month. Watford are three points clear of their nearest challengers Stoke. Watford are yet to be beaten this season, winning six and drawing two.

Boothroyd had a quick word with the media after picking up his award. "It's been a great eight games for us. We feel that we belong in the Premiership and so we expect to be in the top two places. Things are going very well, and lets hope it continues right through the season."

In the other awards Billy Sharp won the 'Player of the Month' award after scoring five goals for Sheffield United. The 'Young Player of the Month' award went to Marcus Williams of Scunthorpe. The 21 year old defender was a crucial factor toward his side's nine points in September.
