Two men in the Championship... We're back!!!

From a 4-1 wn over Wolves to a 2-0 defeat at Walsall! Nice to see Scott Dann and Daniel Fox in the Walsall squad! Both signed for Coventry in January and have been selected for the England U21s twice! They are both bloody brilliant and massively underrated on manager games.

Wasn't exactly shocking, just unfortunate. On another day we would've easily beaten them...

Cheers for the comments guys!

We had a lot better chances, clear cut. They were just more prolific. I'm not sure about possession but we had 9 shots on goal to their 6. We had 4 on target whilst they had all theirs on target. Just one of those games really. Got a tough away game against Barnsley next, hopefully we can find our form in front of goal again...

League Cup 1st Round - Annoying football...

Well a trip away at Walsall was just what the side needed after a brilliant opening game against Wolves. But it turned into the nightmare game. We had all the chances and yet somehow we failed to score on 9 occasions when we slotted four past one of the best side's in the league. Their clinical finishing was our downfall as they made all 6 of their efforts test our keeper. Two goals at the start and end of the first half gave them a 2-nil victory. I was glad in some respect that we would not have extra games to worry about, but it's never nice to be knocked out by a team a league below in the first round of the cup.

'Town' out on penalties

Ipswich 0-0p Bristol Rovers

Ipswich Town are out of the League Cup at the first time of asking, being beaten by Bristol Rovers on penalties at Portman Road. The score was tied at nil-nil throughout normal time and extra time, penalties being the final decider. Ipswich missed all four of their penalties whilst Rickie Lambert and Lewis Haldane scored for Rovers.

A game of few chances, in which both sets of defenders performed well to keep each other at bay. The target was only hit 4 times from 15 shots throughout the whole match.

Ipswich's shooting didn't get much better as the sides went into penalties, Fraizer Campbell sending the 1st penalty wide, Steve Phillips doing the rest saving from Bjorn Runstrom, Jonathan Walters and Alex Bruce.

Paul Trollope, Bristol Rovers' manager, commented on his side's grit and determination in order to win the game. "We defender superbly. Against a good quality Championship side, we have managed to keep them at bay for 120 minutes. You won't see many sides do that against Ipswich this season, so I'm very pleased with our defending. Ok, the finishing wasn't great, but when it mattered in the penalty shoot-out we scored."

Ipswich boss Ben Manning praised his side's defencive play, but was unhappy with the attacking side of things. "We were poor today. I have no complaints with our defending, it was great to keep a clean sheet, but it means nothing when you can't score at the other end. The penalties just enhanced our problem up top. A few hard sessions in training will hopefully sort it out, and we'll be back ready and firing on Saturday."

Not an exciting game so no exciting report!

Our Carling Cup match against Bristol Rovers meant I faced them for the second time in my short career.

Let me start by saying how horrible their shirts are. I felt sick looking at them.

The only change to the side was Dan Harding for Matt Richards, who I had released.

Such a drab game, I was not surprised to see it go to extra time, and then to penalties.

We played poorly, and mustered only 2 shots on target, which against League 1 sides is unacceptable. The boys defended well, which was a highlight.

The only thing I would say to the boys after the game was that "We need to improve penalties!". They had somehow contrived to miss all 4 penalties, with Fraiz, Alex Bruce, Jon Walters and Bjorn all missing.

Ah well surely we will beat Palace at Portman Road...

City score late to win thriller

Barnsley 2-3 Bristol City

Bristol City huddle before their thrilling 3-2 victory

Bristol City won their second game in the Championship beating Barnsley in a fantastic game at Oakwell. Bristol City lead 2-0 before Barnsley came back to level 6 minutes from time. Brian Wilson's superb free kick in stoppage time won it for City, their 7th goal in 2 games.

Things started well for Bristol as Brian Wilson opened the scoring with a fine strike across Muller from a Showunmi flick on. Wilson has scored inside the first 10 minutes in both of Bristol City's opening Championship games.

It took Darren Byfield's great run to make it 2-0, latching on to a driven low cross from man of the moment, Brian Wilson.

Barnsley looked down and out, but a low István Ferenczi shot managed to find it's way to the bottom corner of the net, and the game was back on.

With just 4 minutes of normal time left it was again a fabulous strike that managed to find itself into the back of the Bristol net. Andreoni hit a first time shot that swerved on it's way toward Adriano Basso. The ball curled straight into the top corner to bring the scores back level.

The drama increased 1 minute from the end of normal time. Darren Byfield turned Steve Foster and headed for goal. In a moment of desperation the Barnsley defender stretched a leg out in hope of stopping Byfield from scoring his second of the game. All he managed to do was bring down the striker, and already with a yellow, it was an easy decision to make for referee Graham Salisbury. With the ball placed precariously on the edge of the area, Brian Wilson stepped up to take the free kick. The left winger drilled it into the top corner to give Bristol City another win in their first season back into the second flight of football.

Bristol City manager Jack Teague stated that he was over the moon with the effort his players put in during their victory. "Fantastic result. Couldn't have asked for any more effort from today's performance. We worked hard from start to finish and the fact that we never gave up really contributed to the final goal."

When asked about Brian Wilson's form Teague said that he will only get better as the season gets on. "Brian is a fantastic player. He works hard and it is really paying off on the pitch. I think as the season goes on he will only get better. I just hope he can keep slotting home those free kicks!"

Simon Davey was happy with his side's determination that lead to the fightback from 2-0 down. "We kept going. Even when things looked bleak we carried on pushing and you saw what we did. They scored a good goal at the end, so full credit to them. Now we need to pick ourselves up, and get ready to hopefully defeat Coventry next week."
