Two men in the Championship... We're back!!!

Can I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their comments, keep them coming! And also to congratulate Jack on his start to the season, top of the league and they haven't fluked their way there by any means. We had a bit of banter as we got going, but he is having the last laugh until A) I overtake him in the league or B) The next time we meet [@ Portman Road] where I will undoubtedly win :D.
In all seriousness this has been fun to play and write so far, and we can guarantee a few more games at least, because we are about 2/3 games ahead.

it is good, very good indeed, dissapointing to see you below jack, although when he is top that is inevitable :p

good luck trev and manning , KUTGW :p

Teague crowned 'Manager of the Month'

Championship Review - August 2007

Jack Teague has picked up the 'Manager of the Month' award for August, in just his first competitive month with Bristol City. The young 25 year old joined the club in the summer after Gary Johnson left due to personal issues. Teague has won all three of his Championship matches in charge, taking his newly promoted side to the top of the table. City have scored nine goals and conceded four during victories over Wolves, Barnsley and one against his good friend Ben Manning's Ipswich.

Jack Teague told the press that he is thrilled to be getting the award, and hopes it's 'a sign of things to come'. "I'm so happy to receive this award. My dreams have been to play or manage Bristol City, and to get the opportunity and do so well is just unbelievable. The lads are working very hard and I have to say we deserve to be at the top. There is still a lot of work to do, we are only three games in of course, but hopefully this is a sign of things to come."

In the other awards, Bristol City striker Darren Byfield took 'Player of the Month', scoring a total of four out of City's nine goals. The 'Young Player of the Month' award went to Wolves' Andrew Keogh, who has scored two goals in August. Overall a great month for newly promoted Bristol City, who are leading the race for the Premiership coming into September.

oh crap your name's Jack not Trev that I have put in my last few posts. Anyway well done for getting motm Jack, hopefully it won't be a curse to you. Don't worry Ben, you'll get it next month!

Trev is my nickname Audrey, so it doesn't make any odds. My mates all call me Trev so either name is fine. Well at least I can say I was the best manager in the Championship at one point :p

Game vs Coventry, L 0-3

Coventry, a team not high up on my list of favourites, never liked the Sky Blues, no reason for it, just harboured a hatred of them. So I really wanted to put last week’s poor display behind us and beat these guys. We were at Portman Road again, and I wanted them (the boys) to put in a tremendous performance after the tripe against Palace.

Supple
Sito
Harding
Bruce
De Vos
Miller
O’Toole
Westlake
Clarke
Spicer
Runstrom

A very capable team on paper, but unfortunately not one that delivered. Take Alex Bruce out of the side for 48 minutes and we are going to struggle. No complaints about the decision, Brucey was the last man and deserved to go, however, by this time we were already 1-0 down, the ever-dangerous Leon Best bagging himself a score.
As I said, no problems with D’Urso about the red, but I was disappointed to say the least at how the boys capitulated. Further goals from Michael Doyle and Arjan de Zeeuw, of all people, really killed us off and there was no way back.
No more than a minute after Bruce was sent off, John-Joe took a knock, later diagnosed as a bruised thigh, likely out for 2 weeks, and had to come off.
Not an impressive performance by any stretch of the imagination, but it was off the field where things were really going off.

Final Score: 0-3

Owen Garvan, probably the best player I have seen at 19, moved for £975k to Stoke, a move which he did want to go through with, as it meant a better chance of Premiership football. I sent him on his way with my very best wishes, and I really hope to see him in the World Cup in South Africa with the Republic of Ireland.
We had a £1m offer for Christian Nadé turned down by Hearts, and Tamás Priskin would be a Town player for £1.1m. However, he went off to Leicester.
A loan bid for David Wheater was accepted by Middlesborough, which ultimately fell through, as he’d rather play north of the border for Dundee Utd.
A young Northern Irish lad playing at Bournemouth was a very exciting prospect, and all of my scouts raved about him. I really couldn’t see the deal going any other way than ours, and a £12k deal was agreed.
Watford let me sign John-Joe O'Toole for £38k, which I would hope would prove a bargain.
Jon Spicer is now also a Town player, joining for £300k from Burnley.

Liam Barratt
was really on fire for the reserves, banging in 5 goals in 2 games, and he was really frustrated with the fact that he was still not replicating his form in training or indeed the first team games, so I told him to keep patient and his time to shine would not be too far away.

Two of our lads scored for their countries, and they were absolutely buzzing when they got back, Billy Clarke for the Republic U21s in Latvia, and Danny Haynes vs. Russia U19s in Darlington for England.

Next up for me and the Town was a trip to Molineux, where I was desperately keen to end this streak, and haul the Club out of the bottom three, and the bottom half eventually.

Wtf? Arjan De Zeeuw did something good? But anyway, it was expected. A comfortable win for the super Sky Blues!

'Sky Blues' sink Ipswich further

Ipswich 0-3 Coventry

michaeldoylerh7.jpg

Michael Doyle scored Coventry's second

Coventry easily dispatched Ipswich as they romped to a 3-0 victory away at Portman Road. Leon Best, Michael Doyle and Arjan de Zeeuw scored the goals which sunk Ipswich to their fourth defeat from four.

Leon Best opened the scoring 17 minutes, sliding in front of Dan Harding to put the ball in the back of the net from six yards. Replays have shown the ball to have come off the Coventry striker's arm, although And D'Urso let the goal stand.

Things got a whole lot harder for Ipswich as on the 42nd minute Alex Bruce was given a straight red for a trip on Robbie Simpson after the ball had passed. The Ipswich players surrounded the referee in protest, although it was clearly an act of violent conduct from Bruce.

With 69 minutes on the clock it was 2-0. Michael Doyle nicking in front of keeper Supple from Cairo's cross and tapping into an open net.

The game was put to bed 5 minutes later when Arjan de Zeeuw made it 3-0. A superb strike from 20 yards left Supple with no chance as it flew into the top corner. This was de Zeeuw's first goal for three seasons resulting in an excitable celebration from the Coventry defender.

Manager Iain Dowie said after the game that his side played well and hoped that this win would spark some-kind of run to the business end of the table. "The lads played brilliantly today. Every player worked their socks off and the scoreline was no exaggeration to the performance. We started well against Q.P.R but have dropped off a bit in the last few games. Hopefully we can now push up the table with this victory."

Ipswich boss Ben Manning was very disappointed in their fourth loss out of four, stating that his side had to improve drastically if they were to start winning games. "Another poor performance. We just capitulated from the dismissal of Bruce onward. It's not a lack of effort that is landing us where we are, just that the boys aren't performing to their best ability. It's going to have to pick up big style if we are going to start winning games and getting out of the drop zone!"

Thats very realistic actually, as Best always gets booked, usually for mouthing off! Michael Doyle gets loads of stick when he doesn't perfofrm for Coventry but I have always quite liked him, not to mention the goal he scored against Preston in the season just gone! And also the two goals against Plymouth which basically kept us up!

Go to 2:33. And look a Doyle's celebration too, thast what it means to him! We were 1-0 down with 10 mins left, Adebola got the equaliser and a couple of mins Doyler scred an absolute belter. My favourite game of the season.

Back on topic, nice updates guys!

Hawley bags a couple to end City's run

Preston 2-0 Bristol City

karlhawleyqo7.jpg

Karl Hawley on form at Deepdale

Preston saw off high fliers Bristol City to record a first league defeat for Jack Teague. Karl Hawley scored in the first and second half to end a fine run of 3 games which saw Jack Teague win 'Manager of the Month' for August. Preston dominated the chances and looked like they could score more against a wobbly defence.

Karl Hawley broke the deadlock just 14 minutes in, latching on to a Davidson cross-field ball and blasting home from the edge of the area. Basso had no chance as the ball flew straight into the top corner.

It wasn't until the 2nd half that another goal came, again Hawley the man to get it. Straight from kick-off Mellor passed him the ball. With 3 defenders in front of him he unleashed a 25 yard strike that, again, Basso couldn't get near. Hawley, who moved from Carlisle on a free in the summer, has now scored 3 goals in 4 games.

Preston manager Paul Simpson praised his side's performance hailing it a performance that would beat most teams. "We were fantastic from start to finish today. We dominated and created all the chances. The defence held strong. Karl (Hawley) is a fantastic player, his two goals showed that. Even the best keepers in the world wouldn't have saved those. Right from the top drawer. I think today's performance would have beaten most of the sides in this league."

Jack Teague was disappointed at the way his team let Preston attack them, saying there is still a lot of work to be done. "We weren't great today, the scoreline sums it up. We created little clear cut chances and let their forwards come onto us too much. Hawley's strikes were phenomenal, nothing we can do about that. We have to go back and work on things in training. This is by no means a polished side, we really believe there is still more to come."
