WEST Indies' luckless tour of Australia suffered another blow today when batsman Marlon Samuels flew home suffering a knee injury.
Samuels' departure further depletes West Indies' misfiring batting line-up ahead of the third and final Test against Australia in Adelaide, beginning this Friday.
It will increase pressure on its talismanic batsman Brian Lara to perform after a disappointing series, which the tourists have already lost after two heavy defeats in Brisbane and Hobart.
Samuels, 24, suffered the knee injury when he was hit by a ball from Australia paceman Brett Lee in the first innings of the second Test in Hobart.
Doctors had told him he had no chance of recovering in time for the Adelaide Test and it was best he return to Jamaica to recuperate.
"It is disappointing that I am not able to complete the tour but this is an unfortunate situation and I need to heed the medical advice now so that there is no further damage," Samuels said.
Team physiotherapist Stephen Partridge said he was encouraged by the fact that a scan had showed no new damage to Samuels' knee.
West Indies will not bring in a replacement batsman to the squad as the tour is drawing to a close.
