West Indies in Zimbabwe/South Africa

Very good bowling performance from the Windies but it was hardly a full strength SA team....

Apart from van Wyk, Bodi and Philander the other players are regular ODI players. And van Wyk actually played against New Zealand.

Also West Indies played with two players who didn't play in the ODI series against Zimbabwe (Sammy and Edwards), so there is no excuse that this was an understrenght team.

wow what a bowling show steyn put up,even though it was in a losing cause he left his mark.

Ian Pont on another forum noted that after the Test series, the best was still yet to come from Steyn...I guess that he was absolutely right. Although there was no speed gun, I estimate that he was bowling at around 150kph with some superb accuracy and swing.

great win for West Indies. the bowlers bowled great especially Taylor and Powell. finally they played Sammy and Edwards and it payed off, it should be a good ODI series once it starts. Windies look like a better side than they were earlier in the year.

Taylor has certainly come out of a slump, seems like he's back bowling like he did when he first came onto the scene. In fact, between Taylor, Edwards, Powell and Sammy, there is definitely a capable pace attack in there somewhere.

holy qwakaoly steyn was awesome....they didnt have a dam speed gun operating but he looked to be bowling well in excess of 150kph...he was dam near unplayable....best display of yorker bowling i think ive ever seen...good change of pace as well and some awesome late swing. not looking forward to the aussies facing him...i reckon this guy will be the best bowler in world cricket going on his recent performances.

some of the west indian batsmen really looked intimidated by him, especially marlon samules

They`ve had them around for some time now.
Just that they`ve not always fired consistently.

If SA prepare pitches like the ones that were against New Zealand then West Indies can certainly give them good fight. With Taylor, Powell they have pace and Smith and Bravo are also handy in seam friendly conditions.

i think that they will go with Taylor, Powell, Edwards, Sammy, and Bravo. atleast i would, i would rather have a pace bowler instead of Rawl Lewis.

windies 11 should look somthing like this.

Gayle
Ganga
Shiv Chanderpaul
Samuels
Morton
Bravo (all-rounder)
Ramdin
Sammy (all-rounder)
Powell
Taylor
Edwards

Both Sammy and Bravo can bat and bowl, Sammy really hasnt had a chance to show his batting internationaly but in the KFC Cup he did really good with the bat. It would give them 5 pace bowlers and if need be gayle can bowl some of his off-spin.

wow a bad sign for the west indies they strugled against Zondeki and got bowled out for 193. dont understand the reason for droping chanderpaul down to #5 and why the west indies keep persisting with Devon Smith. He has played every match in this tour of Zim/South Africa and has failed in all of them, i would rather have Lendl Simmons on this tour.

Cricket returns to Port Elizabeth.
Been a long time since we last had a match here.

Btw,what happened to the grounds of East London and Bloemfontein ?

The last ODI at Port Elizabeth was on 30th November, less than a month ago. The last Twenty20 there was last Sunday, and the last Test there was in January. It hasn't been gone for long.

Excellent start, although if Ganga is scoring that quickly, South Africa must be drunk.
