West Indies Tour of England - May to June 2012

Good to see "mind the windows, Tino" called up. He also has serious pace.

Yes, seems an interesting inclusion. He always has serious pace but also goes for runs and can a bit wayward. I don't think he will be able to trouble the Englishmen who are a bit used to fast paced bowling.

Yaaaay Tino Best. Someone has to be playing a joke? His last match was a T20 in Canada and now he gets called up to the test squad to play England. Great news for Pascal, Holder, McClean. They all got something to look for, young and promising and they don't get called up but old and useless gets called up.
Best has pace and that's all he has, he bowls fast with no movement in the air and cant hit the same spot twice if his life depended on it.

Agree with you 10000000000000000000%
How much time are we going to Call up tino best?, De man Fast, be he dont got a head. I was surprise they Call him up. If we looking for YOUNG talent according to WICB they want to Pick YOUNG talent, why go back for Old rubber.
Plus I though they would of Pick C Gayle in place of Gab, i know it's a Batsman in for a Bowler, but I would go with that Gamble then Best, just my view.
We could still play 2 Fast Bowler, 1 Med Pacer and 4 Spinners (Gayle, Shillingford, Deonarine and Sameuls)
It's just to imaging Gayle replacing Powell and Deonarine replacing K Edwards. or even Pick fudani over K Edwards

I think you two are being a bit harsh on Best. I certainly think he is best option that the windies could have called up to replace Gabriel.

----------

England

Well as most i presume have articulated, it was a good first test warm up for the boys. Strauss and Bell back in runs most importantly.

Biggest selection for 2nd test will be how to include Finn. Having Bresnan gives England one of the best lower-orders in test history. But by keeping Finn out - I keep feeling we are preventing one of the best young bowlers in the world from getting action.

West Indies

This test is just another indication that the West Indies are clearly out of their doldrums and they have a team that can beat anyone.

Hopefully soon Gayle, Sarwan, Taylor, Narine will be back into that team, so that regional fans can have their best XI playing all the time.

Also all that talk during the test about C'Paul batting up the order @ # 3 really sounded real illogical.

As long as the windies batting line-up is this shaky in the absence of Gayle and Sarwan, Nash - then it does not make tactical sense to C'Paul to bat higher than 5.

Best Windies test XI:

Gayle, K Edwards, Sarwan, D Bravo, C'Paul, Samuels, Ramdin, Narine, Rampaul, Roach, F Edwards

Tino Best is Muhammad Sami of WI. Both are crap bowlers who can bowl fast but have no stock delivery. For some reason both keep getting selected. :facepalm

I wouldn't change the side, if ever Finn was going to get a game in this series it would have been at Lords.

This test is just another indication that the West Indies are clearly out of their doldrums and they have a team that can beat anyone.

Dangerous assumption/conclusion to draw, they have always had the ability to beat a side when they've played out of their skins and other sides ordinarily, or when sides play poorly, but consistently their record is very ordinary for good reason.

Their batting lacks any solidity, Shandy Paul carried their batting last Test (178 runs) with some support (Samuels 117 and next highest Barath with 66), their bowling lacked a cutting edge and the ability to make most of the conditions.

England aren't always a good measure of opposition strength, batsmen can get out playing poor strokes as much as be got out, and so often get in and get out. England may have been described as "cruising" to victory, truth is they made hard work of it

I was looking at England's tour of India this year....they come on Oct 29 and go back on Jan 27 with a 10 day Christmas break.....

Happy All India tour Englishmen :p you will be taken to the length & breadth of this country.....:D

Dispite I want Gayle n sarwan back.

We should give this team credit where it due.
Everyone expected this game to finish on day 3 but they player well and carry the gamr into day 5 and as far as the 2nd session.

People may say if we had our best 11 we would beat England.
Which this is atter noneless. We had our best 11 the last 3 serirs to England.
And we were himulated with disgrace. Been beaten by innings or beaten by over 100 runs and 10 wicket n best 7 wickets.

This same young side just need a little moroe experiance, but that wouldnt unless we have at least 2 seniorr, n my choice would of been sarwan n chadetpaul for test n gayle for odi, cant count pollard n them as senior, but should be in de team.

For wi tour of England this is our 2 nd after 3 series to get close to beating England, 1st been the 60 runs lost. Which had also feature sammy.

I am not favouring Gayle Nor Sammy. I just want to see West indiess Do well and we didnt Do anything Test Match for the last 10 years. 1 After every like 20 Test match. imaging last 31 Game We won 2 Test Match. Sammy lost 7 of those and Draw 6 and won 2 of those, Which isnt really different from Past West Indies Captain Team performance not individual which Sammy LACKS far, I mean very Far behind. We West Indies Need o look at Team performance Now This isnt doing back, just We need both Experiance Player with Young one and need to give the young one Chances because they are the future. but one thing about this Young side without de experience they fight to the end, but they limitation is a Downfall, Only If Gayle and co had this Mentality in them, with the Talent they got we Will Demolish all de time, but gayle and co don't have this Mentality, and this is true they feel they bigger than Cricket, that They will play for them self get they Avg up and that all they need. Team Victory is 2nd, and De PAst Records who this. How much time we had Sarwan, Gayle, Dywane Bravo, Chanderpaul, J Taylor, Ramdin, S Benn, F Edwards and many other which are Rate Over this current Team, they all played together Yet We get Himulated Left right and center. I am not against any of those Player and they coming back in this current young side could or may not Help the team. It's time we seriously sit and think about this than just Picking or trying to say WI need to pick they best 11 to put out there.

No one stand up for West Indies Cricket When Our Best 11 were been Demolished by every single Team around the world in Test Cricket, and Once de board change de team, everyone finally cared abou West Indies Cricket.

and before people hit on me saying we cant win with Sammy and de Current WI is Crap and we need Need Gayle and co.
But could we win without Sammy?
Sammy in the Team, hurts a Bowling department sicne he is in as a bowler, Yet today No one can past 400 against this West Indies all the time. Got this England Bowled out for under 400. in de past England most of the time get Over 400- 500 against a west Indies Bowling attack without Sammy. The 2nd and 3rd test still to come it's still possible.

Again Sammy isnt my favorite player in case people think i am favoring Sammy, in my view he shouldn't be in de team for Test, but showing some facts that even without Sammy We cant beat England in England or even get close to it.

I'm pretty impressed the way young WI batsmen have performed of late. Keiron Powell and Adrian Barath looks like future stars for the team. They have all the talent in the world. All they need is to sort out the consistency factor and they can be very good in the game's longest format.

Interesting discussion guys but let's get down to the real issue...

If West Indies players were curries what would they be?

I think Fidel Edwards would be a Vindaloo as he has the pace to make one go right through you.

... and on a bad day, it's just gonna be the sh... :p

Sammy is like one of the sides that you always order but never really end up needing.

Yaaaay another 50 for Brendan Nash and he can still build on it when play resumes. Goooooood job WICB

England aren't always a good measure of opposition strength, batsmen can get out playing poor strokes as much as be got out, and so often get in and get out.

Like any Test batting line up :p

I was being generous, I bet if you added up the number getting out to being got out it would be 65-35 (%) or thereabouts. Point is bowlers don't need to bowl wicket taking deliveries, especially not spinners, just wait for the batsman to pull out a naff sweep or have the fielders awake for when the ball is hit straight to them with a waft.

I was trying to make sense of Broad's comments about Finn, didn't realise England had three bowlers in the top five of the rankings. Does that say much about them, or more about the ones below?
