West Indies tour of New Zealand

the only change I would like to see is Ramdin being left out. Yea he scored 30 or so runs in this last 20/20 but his overall form has been awful and now his keeping has fallen of. Baugh is a much better WK and probably batsman at the moment, Ramdin lost all his confidence and needs to be dropped for a good period of time to play some domestic cricket if he is to be the future WK for WI. In the meantime I don't see a problem with Baugh keeping or Fletcher because Fletcher really seems like a good player for the short game.

I have a feeling that Nikita Miller will get owned in the ODIs and that it was a huge mistake to send Benn home after the tests and 20/20s.

That's what I was thinking, Benn bowled really well in the 20/20's. Even the commentators couldn't believe he was going home. And Fletcher really impressed me in the Standford games and I was surprised he wasn't in the West Indies team. What ever happenend to Patrick Browne, I saw him a year or two ago in South Africa he looked pretty impresive?

Howsie added 4 Minutes and 28 Seconds later...

How long do you guys think it will be before Greg Hay gets a shot in the team. He averages >40 in all forms of the game. Although he has only played 20 FC games

Greg Hay can't even make the CD team, he is a player who scored alot of his runs on very flat decks. He wen't to Inida with the A team, and was very poor.

I wanna know how long until we see Trent Boult playing for New Zealand, bowled well yesterday. Eight overs 2/10. It was on a green deck but then BJ Watling went out and scored 85 runs of only 115 balls. How about we get a few more ND boys in this NZ team.

They just stopped selecting Browne. He played in the ODIs against Australia I think but didn't do much so they dropped him. At this moment I wouldn't really mind seeing him because I'm 100% sure that he cant do worse than Ramdin.

Depends where he bats. Will Flynn go to 3? I'd like Taylor at 4 better but he batted 3 in the Twenty/20's but if How plays (and I think he should) he'll be 3 surely. So i'm talking Broom, Flynn, Elliot etc

I'm not the biggest fan of How at the moment, but he did score 73 off 82 in the last game he played for NZ in ODIs and his average is pretty decent. I hope they give him a chance in the first 2 ODIs at least. ODIs are a different game. Getting dropped on test form would be harsh. And besides, the best innings he'd played in tests for a while was his latest for 50odd where he was part of a run chase.

I'm pretty sure it said on Sky Sports that he's in the ODI squad...

Edit - just checked, and yes, he is in the ODI squad.

I;m dissapointed they didn't keep him in the ODI side. ODIs are a different game. Getting dropped on test form is absurd. I'm fairly certain that How is in the ODI team. Atleast for the first two games.

Miller seemed pretty tight against Australia in the middle of the year, though conditions were different, but he seemed okay in the UAE as well. Big Benn, on the other hand, I'm not sure I've ever seen him do too well. Whether that pays off for the West Indies or not, the selection makes sense. I would actually think Miller is close to a Test call up, while Benn is starting to slide, instead of the other way around.

Benn can hold the runs down or at least it seems that way but he cant get wickets. I don't really understand how he ever made it into the test team but there are better spinners than him. I really cant see him getting another test for a while at least.
Jaggernauth and Mohammed are both way better bowlers than he is at least in the longer version of the game. Mohammed is the best bowler in the Caribbean when it comes to the 50 over game.
Millers List A record is horrible compared to that of Mohammed. The selectors seem to have something against Trinidad and Tobago and just don't want to select their players even if they are the best in domestic cricket.

God, gimme some time. I rephrased my post almost instantly and already 2 people pounced on me. I'm meaning if he is dropped. He's fighting with a few other guys for a spot now.

I think that nz would prefer to bat Flynn at 3
but then where would How bat
my team for the 1st match:

1. Ryder
2. McCullum
3. How
4. Taylor
5. Flynn
6. Broom
7. Oram
8. Vettori
9. Southee
10. Patel/Mills
11. Gillespie

New Zealand have too many dashers at the top and hence someone like Flynn needs to come in at 3. How at 3 is an inferior option to Flynn as How doesn't have that ability to raise his game when the situation requires it (well in his current form). I don't like How in the middle order (4-6) either.

I've got no idea how New Zealand fans would think of a name change of Eden Park.

Eden Park could undergo name change

About Eden Park. I was annoyed when the Christchurch stadium got changed from Lancaster Park to Jade Stadium. Now it's AMI Stadium. I'm sure Aucklanders will hate a new name for it. It's just a pain really.

About Flynn, i'd almost rather he was a test specialist. He wasn't impressive in the Twenty/20s. How can up his game, he's better when he plays aggressively.

This is my line up for tomorrow:

Ryder
McCullum
How
Taylor
Flynn
Oram (Best at 6)
Elliot
Vettori
Mills
Southee
Patel

Broom deserves a shot at some stage. Hopefully we end up with dead rubbers at the end and he can play. Flynn deserves the chance first since he's played so well in tests. 5's a good spot for him because he can either re-build or can do the single picking job through the middle which he'd be great at. He's not a bad hitter either once he's hit the ball around a bit.

Elliot's done nothing wrong in all his ODIs to date. I don't see why he shouldn't be picked ahead of Broom.

2 spinners is a must. I'd have them both for all 5 games so long as they don't get injured. I think 2 spinners in ODI cricket is a great idea and we should really give it a shot for a while. EVen if Patel gets smacked around in one of the games, keep him. Even if there won't be much spin.

Peter Fulton got another 50 for Canterbury today. Makes you wonder why the hell he gets so badly treated by the selectors. Unbelievable.

This is a good contest, these two are quite evenly balanced teams,we got to see two good T20 matches, lets hope that even 50-50 also are that entertaining.
