I wouldn't mind if Marsh was going to open but since he's going to be batting down the order, it was a pretty bad choice, as Ferguson is a better batsman in the lower middle order. I would have liked it if they had played this squad (Hussesy not in because of his injury)

1. Shane Watson
2. Shaun Marsh
3. Brad Haddin
4. Cameron White
5. Michael Clarke (Since he's a definate)
6. Callum Ferguson
7. Steven Smith
8. Nathan Hauritz
9. Brett Lee
10. Doug Bollinger
11. Shaun Tait

I'd like to see Marsh (or even Paine) take the #3 spot for this series and keep Clarke at #4. That way the middle order guys will be in the same spots when Ponting comes back in.

I'm also waiting to see if Australia trial the D.Hussey/Smith spin combo with 3 quicks + Watson. I hope not, but if they are planning for Smith to bat at #8 in the WC and be the primary spinner, then lets see how it goes beforehand.

And I wonder if Paine and Haddin will play together much. I wouldn't mind seeing Haddin given a rest from the gloves, let him refocus on the basics in practice and let him play as a batsman for most of the series.

Well since Hussey injury they definitely have more of a chance to play Paine as a specialist bat and try Hastings out at 7. Marsh would be the one to make way in both cases.

England win the toss and send us in. Teams as named by cricinfo in the preview. This will be a big test for Clarke, can't excuse slow scoring today.

This will be a good test for Australia with the wicket doing a bit early on. Not that there will be too many wickets like that during the World Cup.

Haddin and Watson could have taken that advise from that kid too. Shahzad is bowling brilliantly again, boy hes going to be a talent when England get him into the Test side.

Just pondered the question of "When's the last time Australia set a total of 300+ where Clarke scored a half-century or more?"

Answer: 27th of April 2009.

Perhaps Clarke should go back to opening? The last two times Australia made 300+ where Clarke scored a half-century or more was when he opened.

Oh dear White might have an injury concern now. Really going to need White to be there to the end else we'll miss his explosive finish.

Well he pretty much is opening today. Just don't expect a 300.
