Nottinghamshire vs Worcestershire 1st Innings
Well again, we were without our star bowlers for the One Day match against Worcestershire. Swann was in some great form and it would be good to have him back. He was in good form after getting Man Of The Match in the first test against the West Indies for scoring 61 and taking 5/47 and 3/106. We made no changes to the side that beat Somerset in the FC match, earlier in the week. Only 1 change was made to their side who played us in our last Challenge Trophy match, Kervezee in for Ali. They won the toss and elected to bat and as conditions were good for batting, we had to bowl well.
Adams and Pattinson shared the new ball. The first few overs were good and Pattinson got his reward, bowling Moore out for 2, the score 8/1 after 4 over's. Klokker dropped Smith off Adams when he got a faint edge through to the keeper but Adams struck in the same over, getting Solanki trapped in front for 5. What a great start, having them 9/2 after 5 over's.
After scoring 5 from the next over, the bowlers put on 3 straight maidens which put the batsman under pressure and caused a streaky shot from Mitchell, miscueing the shot over mid on for 4. 20/2 after 10 over's and the powerplay was taken straight away.
Andre Adams was taken off after bowling 7 over's, 4 maidens, 1/6 and Lawson was given 6 being scored off the last over of it bowled by Lawson.
Although the pitch wasn't too good for bowling, there was some clouds in the sky and it allowed Pattinson to swing the ball into the right handers and get the occassional one to move away and the swing brought his second wicket, swinging the ball into Smith who was bowled for 13 off 44 and it was 34/3 after 16 over's.
Pattinson bowled out his 10 over's, taking 2/30 with 1 maiden and it was 51/3 after 20 over's. Ealham was brought on to replace Pattinson as he had bowled out and he only conceded 3 runs off his first over.
Mitchell and Kervezee were trying to rebuild the innings and were at 66/3 after 24 over's. Spin was introduced with Jason Brown. Maybe he could take an important wicket.
Mitchell and Kervezee survived 17 over's together before their partnership came to an end, Kervezee trapped in front by Ealham for 27 off 50. They were still going very slowly at 88/4 after 33.1 over's. Ealham had bowled 6.1 over's for figures of 1/14 so far with Brown bowling from the other end with 0/13 from 5 over's.
Ealham was rested after bowling 7 over's for 1/16 and Patel was given the ball for the first time in the match after 35 over's. He took a wicket in his first over, Mitchell trapped in front for 33 and we were in a commanding position. Knappett and Batty were now at the crease. It was even better for us when Batty was trapped in front by Brown for a golden duck and Brown had his reward for an excellent spell.
Patel took his second wicket in his third over and Ali was out for 2. They took the final powerplay in the 41st over with the score 97/7 and Adams was brought back into the attack. Ealham bowled from the other end. Knappett made 13 but edged behind off Ealham and he was back in the pavilion. Jones went without scoring and it was 110/9 after 44 over's. Adam came in to bowl his 10th over.
Adams finished a great spell with figures of 1/17 from 10 over's including 4 maidens. A wonderful economical bowling performance from the New Zealand bowler. Ealham came in to bowl his last over. He finished with 3/24 from his 10 over's and all bowlers had bowled well. We still needed to get the last wicket though. Lawson was brought on for his 6th over and he would have 2 over's to bowl if needed. Brown took the final wicket of Arif in his final over for 11 and they were all out for 135, Brown finishing with 2/26 from 9.2 over's.
I was really happy with our bowling performance, Adams taking 1/17 (10), Pattinson taking 2/30 (10), Ealham taking 3/24 (10), Brown taking 2/26 (9.2) and Patel taking 2/4 (3) and Lawson bowled well without reward. It should have been an easy chase but you never know what could happen.
