Academy Version 0.0.71 Discussion

It's almost as if the batting mechanics were specifically designed to be used in something other than broadcast camera...

@SnowyCasanova all shots for broadcast were same as in behind the camera except for leave and pad away which has to be reversed.

Do u think hard type is actually hard or medium pitch, there must be extra hard pitch then like perth pitches for more bounce.

Except Perth hasn't been like that for 10+ years. Perhaps play the nets before saying what there 'must' be.

I would say Perth and Brisbane are still much bouncier than other pitches around the world. Maybe not that shameful road they rolled out for the last Perth Test versus NZ. I'd probably put Centurion in that category too.

So yeah, I think a 'bouncy' or 'fast' option might be nice. Other than that I think we are well covered.

I don't want to get into a rant about pitches (it's happened before) but the WACA thing really baffles me. It's not like the pitch isn't capable of being what it used to be. There have been ODIs there in recent times where it has looked similar to the old WACA. But every year the Test pitch becomes more and more docile. I hate to think that the curators are doing it because they aren't confident that they can achieve a middle ground (where the pitch still has the old character, but the match isn't going to end in 2 days because batsmen don't have the technique they used to) so they just go the safe route and make it a road. It's going to be interesting to see what the pitch at this new stadium is like. I wonder if they will be under pressure to actually make it more like the old WACA pitch, to appease the traditionalists like myself who think it's a crying shame that they built a new Test stadium instead of just doing up the WACA. I guess it's more likely they'll just ignore what we want and keep concentrating on those wonderful, wonderful profits.

Another boring, docile pitch with no character just like all the other grounds in the country that share a stadium with the AFL.

Yeah!! Keep it in the your sock drawer!

[for the record, this is a rhetorical question of sorts...bear with me]

Something occurred to me as I was trolling (not in a bad sense) through the DB17 thread on whirlpool...and that is the list of additional shots that you can now play ie. helicopter, lofted sweep, etc etc. I'm really quite excited about these additional shots however it hit me as I was playing this evening (DB14) - I struggle as it is to:

1. spot the ball (ie. the colour showing the length to be bowled);
2. decide the right shot to play (considering the ball, length, speed, area to hit, likelihood of a nick, field placements, etc)
3. decide my footwork (front/back) - LS
4. play the shot - RS + LT or RT or RB, etc depending on shot

Because of the speed at which things happen ingame (esp when facing fast bowlers), i struggle to play shots without premeditating. Trust me I've tried my best to judge the ball but I'm always late in getting my fingers to play the shots. When i do, its usually late. Knowing the combinations of say the lofted sweep...how the heck are you supposed to play these new shots without actually premeditating? I know batsmen do it IRL (eg. advancing down the pitch, reverse sweeps, etc), but there's a lot of shots that they play based on the ball bowled.

I'm just worried that, even with all the new shots being added....it won't make a difference to me because I'll still be applying the 80/20 rule ie. 80% of my runs come from 20% of my shot selections. The problem is, if we make it easier...it'll become too easy however as it stands...its a little on the difficult side (even after hundreds of hours of play). Is there a middle ground to prevent premeditation?

Bigant have nailed bowling in terms of the pure mechanics of it. Spin is pretty much perfect in my eyes.

Very excited for the release of the game. Not actually that far away now.

This is the (multi) million dollar question @The_Pharoah !

I genuinely feel that this problem, for most not all, is what holds it back from feeling truly amazing. I'm sure the people who don't have to premeditate probably enjoy this game that extra little bit, I'm sure.

The only way I can comprehend it being solved is, a) give us more time. Or b) button config

I'm not a fan of the early length indicator, and no way am I a fan of pitch markers- which early length indicator is of some sort, in reality.

If ba can manage to solve this.. Then they gotta license to print mooolah!!

Also did one for pace which will be available at this link once it has finished uploading.

Ideally you'd have variations in the action that show that the ball will be fuller or shorter but it's probably quite expensive to do it properly and since it's half of the batting gameplay it probably won't be done for a while (as they don't want to half-ass it and ruin the game).

Wondering if rain can influence the pitch into becoming a bit damp? But it would be nice if some pitches could slow down as the game progresses. It would give the toss a lot more weight.

Would love to see rain playing much role in game, not by reducing overs but also pitch becoming wet. Ball should be stopped and slow down when played lofted shots.
