I'll bet when Australia finally drop out of the top spot, the Windies will return to greatness and we'll all be like "f*ck not again."

I don't see that happening. The 8 (big) Test nations are quite competitive with each other.

So you think Australia actually will? I mean in about 3 years when Warne, Mcgrath retire and players like Langer, Martyn and Ponting who i think are 33 are 36ish, the team will look quite different in 2007.

Australia were lucky, we should have won this match after complete domination.QUOTE]

Shoulda, coulda, didn't. Although I did expect the finest bowling attack in the history of the world could have done away with some ageing, useless tailenders......

And I do believe from a series point of view that taking a draw here was crucial. It makes the series win that more tangible being just one win away.

It's not a series win if you draw it 2-2 you will retain the ashes but wont win the series.

Bucknor and Dar are the umpires for the 4th test.

Wel ok im not sure where the India stuff started but that can be discussed after India beat England (March-April cant remember)

BUt back the the topic. I think England have ruined their chance to regain the ashes. Lets face it Australia arnt gonna lose 2 tests in a row. I agree with the most of the people you were talking about saying that England have outplayed Australia and they have but they only won by 2 runs and got a draw. Thats the best England could do when Australia were totally out of form. When England were outplayed by Australia they got smashed (at lords). That is the difference between the two teams. You can say you played the lower order the top order i dont care. You played Australia and you could only just beat them when you totally outplayed them. You could have won at Old Trafford but Vaughn let you down with the slips why? because he was scared that the Mighty Australia would embarass you and win the match. And all this time everybody has been having a go at Pointings captaincy

You England fans have to face it that the dream is over. Australia are alerady celebrating :cheers :cheers and all England can do now is :upray for a miracle ask for :help and hail the best team in the world at the moment as being much better than them :clap :hpraise

The next Australia team will be different but will still be capable of retaining the ashes

Annilation66 I have come to the conclusionn that you are an IDIOT.

England dont need to win both tests like you just said to win the ashes, they only need to win one, which we are more than capable of doing.

Secondly even if India do beat England in the series that does not say that they are 2nd best in the world. You have to have a proven track record from recent years like England!! When you go to South Africa and win a series, then come back!!

They don't have to. Just one, and the other a draw will do, as has been said countless times . Admittedly it's now a tough ask for England, but whatever the outcome they'll push the Aussies all the way.
Look, no-ones disputing that the Aussies are still no1 atm, but before the series started many Oz fans, and even some of their players, were forecasting a 4-0 or even 5-0 series win. This proved to be total arrogance and utter crap, as has been proved so far. Sure, the Lords test was a thumping for England, which only proved to a) feed the Oz arrogance further, and b) give the English players a kick up the arse. People keep going on about how the Aussies have under-performed, but how's this for a radical suggestion; perhaps they've been poor because England have put them under pressure and made them underperform? Difficult for some of you guys to grasp, I know, but maybe that's the case. Even Buchanan has said that they've been surprised how England have played at a high level consistantly since the 2nd Test, nearly always putting the pressure on the Aus batsman and bowlers, rather than just for occasional spells as in previous Ashes series.
When Oz won the NatWest challenge, everyone was saying how they'd got over their early tour poor form, and that they were now showing the true class they have and how the difference in class was now showing etc etc (yawn yawn), so what's gone wrong?
As I said, it's going to prove difficult for England to win back the Ashes now, but don't write us off yet. This team is made of sterner stuff than previous England outfits.

yeap, England only need to win the next test (Trent bridge?), and draw the one at the oval. Since the Oval test in the 2nd week in september, it wil more than likely be rain affected.

I agree- 400 runs to play with and drops a man back every time we play an attacking shot, ending up with 2nd/4th/gully for the quickies and watching the ball fly through the massive gaps again and again. A captain that backed his bowlers to get through an out of sorts Australian lineup would be 2-1 up and half way to winning the Ashes.

Well just because we dint win, we are going to pin point this errors. But mind you we have won a lot of test matches by taking a lot of catches by using that new modern spread out slips and gully field. If you recall last year's test matches against New Zealand and West Indies, all of which were won by England.

Aleem Dar is back. That's good news. Bowden make some strange decisions. :(

Fair enough India wont be the 2nd best if they beat England and i can admit that arrogance and poor form has cost India lately.

And i make 1 mistake in 1 post and i am an Idiot. I dont think we will see another draw unless if there is rain again. Even if there is i doubt that England would have been able to hold out a draw like Australia did. The problem with England is that when they start winning and getting good and with a bright future they get arrogant. Australia were predicting 5-0 no not realy. they said that they expect to win every match they play in and the words were manipulated by the English press to make England look like the good guys.

You aer taking what you hear on commentary etc too seriously. I wish we could watch the tests with neutral commentary.

Yes England have put pressure on Australia and made them perform badly to a certain degree but Australia have not been beaten convincingly on the cards.

I started this series trying to watch everything as a neutral which i do but when i come onto these forums it is hard to do that. Most people are supporting England and think that England will win the Ashes.

England fans dont have much hope really though. After the first test votes said that everyone thought that australia would now win the ashes. But they have fought back but u think that u are too god and it could lead to your downfall.
