Dhawan I think is a one hit wonder, lets see how well he does in Safrica, as well as Pujara he failed in this test still not convinced he is test material.
In the defence of this Australian Side, even the great side of 2004 were on the edge of drawing the series in the 3rd match I think where India had a target about 210 and India were 17/0 with Sehwag still batting. But the day 5 was washed out due to rain. Though we can't compare these two sides, Australia with Warne, Mcgrath, Hayden etc looked a completely different side. I used to love their way of playing even though I wished them to lose. There were not enough experienced players available in the current side except for Ponting and Hussey who had played with this current team otherwise it would have been great help for them.AUS like most sub-continent teams have always struggled in India. So that was never an issue at least leading up the 1990s, because tours to india were so few, the place was like touring mars.
The great AUS team up to 2004 still were playing spin poorly during India tours in 98, 2001 & Sri Lanka 99.
But after the successful tours to India & SRI 2004, along with the many ODI series wins in India, i always expected AUS improvement vs spin to stay somewhere close to the 2004 standard if it other area's of the team became poor.
AUS lost in India 2008 & 2010 - but the overall batting strength didn't look woefully clueless in these series.
It was only last year AUS won a HARD ODI series in UAE facing Ajmal, Afridi, Rehman & Hafeez.
So basically the biggest disappointment for me is that AUS batting in this series is a horrible regression of AUS batsman-ship on turning pitches, back to the poor level of pre 1996. It is an insult to all the progress AUS batters have made to playing spin worldwide in the last 20 years.
Pujara was given out wrongly in most of the occasions in this series. Even in first innings, he got inside edge before he was given LBW. I think he has done more than enough to prove that he is test material.Series win for India and a possible whitewash on the horizon, yuck!
Saw one poster claiming that this series ushers in a new era for Indian cricket, maybe so but with some good batsmen its high time Tendulkar bows out, he has been an abject failure, once more he gives up instead of fighting to give the Indians a win, shameful really. Dhawan I think is a one hit wonder, lets see how well he does in Safrica, as well as Pujara he failed in this test still not convinced he is test material.
Good win for the boys. Dhoni had a shocker in that last half an hour but obviously when SIRJI is there, nothing can go wrong. Dhawan was brilliant and so was Vijay. Kumar bowled well yesterday to out us in the winning position. Just saw the news that Dhawan is doubtful for Delhi test which means FINALLY Rahane might get a debut in the test format. i really hope he does get a game before going to South Africa.
Exactly as what Aalay said, we are still in transition and we cannot take things lightly. I am worried about is no test matches until December which sucks big time. Playing ODI with a completely different team is going to be a big thing.
What I wanted to ask is who would now open in ODI's for INDIA? Will Gambhir Sehwag be persisted or new opening for that too?
