Australia Tour Of India 2012/13

Good win for the boys. Dhoni had a shocker in that last half an hour but obviously when SIRJI is there, nothing can go wrong. Dhawan was brilliant and so was Vijay. Kumar bowled well yesterday to out us in the winning position. Just saw the news that Dhawan is doubtful for Delhi test which means FINALLY Rahane might get a debut in the test format. i really hope he does get a game before going to South Africa.

Series win for India and a possible whitewash on the horizon, yuck!

Saw one poster claiming that this series ushers in a new era for Indian cricket, maybe so but with some good batsmen its high time Tendulkar bows out, he has been an abject failure, once more he gives up instead of fighting to give the Indians a win, shameful really. Dhawan I think is a one hit wonder, lets see how well he does in Safrica, as well as Pujara he failed in this test still not convinced he is test material.

:lol You just proved you are untouchable :p (you know what that means in INDIA achoot). You sir are genius. Just goes to show you dont watch cricket as a sport or cause you like it, you watch cricket just to speak nonsense or find a way to criticize the Indian team. :lol

For you it goes like this, Tendulkar did not end the game, he is idiot... (dancing in mind thinking of getting a point to criticize him on Planet Cricket :rolleyes), Pujara fails for a test, he is not a test material.. (dancing in mind thinking of getting a point to criticize him on Planet Cricket :rolleyes) You sir are SIRRRRR :rolleyes :clap

For the next test I would go with this lineup if Dhawan is injured

Rahane
Vijay
Pujara
Tendulkar
Kohli
Dhoni
Jadeja
Ojha
Ashwin
Dinda
Kumar

AUS like most sub-continent teams have always struggled in India. So that was never an issue at least leading up the 1990s, because tours to india were so few, the place was like touring mars.

The great AUS team up to 2004 still were playing spin poorly during India tours in 98, 2001 & Sri Lanka 99.

But after the successful tours to India & SRI 2004, along with the many ODI series wins in India, i always expected AUS improvement vs spin to stay somewhere close to the 2004 standard if it other area's of the team became poor.

AUS lost in India 2008 & 2010 - but the overall batting strength didn't look woefully clueless in these series.

It was only last year AUS won a HARD ODI series in UAE facing Ajmal, Afridi, Rehman & Hafeez.

So basically the biggest disappointment for me is that AUS batting in this series is a horrible regression of AUS batsman-ship on turning pitches, back to the poor level of pre 1996. It is an insult to all the progress AUS batters have made to playing spin worldwide in the last 20 years.
In the defence of this Australian Side, even the great side of 2004 were on the edge of drawing the series in the 3rd match I think where India had a target about 210 and India were 17/0 with Sehwag still batting. But the day 5 was washed out due to rain. Though we can't compare these two sides, Australia with Warne, Mcgrath, Hayden etc looked a completely different side. I used to love their way of playing even though I wished them to lose. There were not enough experienced players available in the current side except for Ponting and Hussey who had played with this current team otherwise it would have been great help for them.

I like Michael Clarke attacking captaincy though, he said even before the Day 5 started that they can still win this match. That explains the reason why Australian batsman were playing so attacking and then getting out on rash shots. So unfortunate for him that his players couldn't support him enough. He deserves more than that.

Pujara was given out wrongly in most of the occasions in this series. Even in first innings, he got inside edge before he was given LBW. I think he has done more than enough to prove that he is test material.

I just hope they don't call in one of the other Delhi openers... :rolleyes

Speaking of Delhi openers... What's the situation with Unmukt? How's he progressing, and will he continue to open despite the return of the likes of Sehwag and Gambhir? Sehwag back to his favorite #4 spot maybe?

Why do you want Sehwag back? This is a new phase of Indian cricket and we can't look backwards. Give youngsters a chance, and let them fail, because we should expect them to. But don't drop them on a whim. As horribly wrong as this series has gone for Australia, it has been a valuable learning experience for the likes of Wade and Hughes.

India cannot beat South Africa, and we shouldn't be disheartened by that. They are reaching the peak of their development, and India is just starting theirs.

Guess that was a bit confusing, that whole 2nd part was in relation to the Delhi side...

When Sehwag wasn't there (he was dropped one test after Gambhir), Gambhir played at 3 & 4 and Chand opened. Since being dropped, Sehwag has played only one match (T20) and he opened with Gambhir, and Chand played at #3.

Happy with this win, but I am not getting too hyped up with stuff like "ushering in a new era" etc. We still have to prove our worth abroad for it to be called "a new era" etc. We still have pretty wide chinks. Our spinners don't seem effective abroad, our pacers come and go as fast as wind, our batting can feast on home wickets but their techniques abroad is still a big matter of concern.

One thing that encourages me is that Dhoni said he was thinking of the option of "draw" but he still somehow went for the win. If he can choose the braver option more often, it will be very good for India.

Hope Rahane debuts next game. With the series sealed, hope we can find one more batsman who can give us more reassurance for South Africa. If Rahane clicks as opener, it will give us a good headache of having to pick two openers out of three. And it will put all of them on their toes in South Africa.

Saying it's a "new era" doesn't mean that the Indian team has turned over a new leaf and will suddenly start winning far more matches. It just means to say that we are moving in a different- and encouraging- direction.

Yes obviously it will be next to impossible to win in South Africa with this new team as most of the players don't have much experience of playing in those conditions. However, I feel that if we can somehow survive the first test match, we can give a decent competition afterwards. If we are even able to draw that series, it will be a big achievement for this team.

Exactly as what Aalay said, we are still in transition and we cannot take things lightly. I am worried about is no test matches until December which sucks big time. Playing ODI with a completely different team is going to be a big thing.

What I wanted to ask is who would now open in ODI's for INDIA? Will Gambhir Sehwag be persisted or new opening for that too?

I heard that there is an India A tour to South Africa after the IPL, so that might be a good thing.

For the ODI opening pair, how about Rahane and Dhawan? I would like to see Rahane given a complete series even if he fails because he mostly got his chances when either Sehwag or Gambhir were dropped/injured. Now the problem is we don't even have a ODI series till the champions trophy which is very weird. Dahwan as we know did very well in last year's IPL and we have tried him in ODI as well in WI. So it will be a tricky decision to make for selectors because the Champions Trophy is in England and going there with 2 new openers will be a challenge.
