Australia Tour Of India 2012/13

Ha ye my mistake, i typed that under frustration. Obviously AUS have the BG Trophy.

Fair enough if you want to remain cautious with your team. But i'm not going to live under a rock from a AUS fan perspective & expect them to do any miracles in this test.

AUS have already stepped on a landmine and blown away their feet with the selections for this test as i've articulated. IND just have to be smart to win it from here.

How often have IND in their test history @ home (since they have been strong @ home of course),after spinning out a vulnerable batting opposition on the 1st day of a home test for under 250, failed to go on & win?. It can't be very often if at all.

AUS need players to step up remarkably Kolkotta 2001 style to win or even draw this test. And i'm not going to waste time expecting that. Just waiting for the post mortem.

Clarke might have made things easier for India here with that "so-called aggressive move". India have often failed to finish the opposition off, especially their final few wickets. And by declaring with 1 wicket yet to take, Australia and Clarke have said "Ok, we are doing you a favor here. Go out and bat".

They might have even made 275.

Heck, Patto and Doherty could have made 400+ :p Clarke obviously thought it was worth the XX amount of runs he's given up to show some aggression and remind India that Australia are still here to play. He's also trying to inspire his own team as much as sending India a message. It's a message of 'hey, maybe we batted like crap, but here's a chance to make something of the day'.

The average 10th wicket partnership against India in India in the last 3 years is 11.76. The only partnership to go past 28 was the 66 Henriques and Lyon made last Test. Given Henriques wasn't out there, it's fair to assume 66 would be unlikely. Clarke's probably given up 10-20 runs here. Whoopdey doo All this 'India often gives up big last wicket partnerships' stuff is just fans with VERY short memories.

While I'm on statguru...last time India bowled a team out for less than 250 at home and lost was vs Pakistan, 1998/99 at Eden Gardens. But it wasn't spin that time. Javagal Srinath took 13 wickets. Saeed Anwar made a brilliant 188 in the 2nd innings to set too many for India.1st Match: India v Pakistan at Kolkata, Feb 16-20, 1999 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo
Happened a month or so before that too, Kumble more involved this time: 1st Test: India v Pakistan at Chennai, Jan 28-31, 1999 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

Apart from those 2 though, you have to go back to 1988 vs New Zealand when Arshad Ayub, Narendra Hirwani and everyone's favourite commentator Ravi Shastri spun out the Kiwis, but India couldn't make enough runs in reply - Richard Hadlee and John Bracewell doing very well.2nd Test: India v New Zealand at Mumbai, Nov 24-29, 1988 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

EDIT: The more pertinent point perhaps is that India doesn't bowl teams out for under 250 very often in the 1st innings. They've only done it 6 times since that Pakistan game in '99.
vs Eng, Mohali, 2001 (win)
vs WI, Chennai, 2002 (win)
vs Aus, Chennai, 2004 (draw)
vs Pak, Delhi, 2007 (win)
vs NZ, Nagpur, 2010 (win)
and yesterday (???)

Sehwag out. I don't like when Indian players fail, but in some ways I have become indifferent (understatement) when he gets out cheaply. I really think his time is up and has been for a good while now.

All this twaddle about Panesar/Doherty, and Panesar "not being a proven test bowler since last year".
Panesar was superb everywhere in 2006 and 2007, he racked up a load of 6-fors all over the place, then he just lost form.
He never stopped being a good bowler, it's just that Swann's form was better and Swann offered more with the bat and in the field.
Panesar has always been world class, he just lost it for a while.

As for Sehwag getting out cheaply, this is why declaring yesterday was pointless, Sehwag was always going to get out cheaply anyway so what does it matter if it was last night or today.
30 runs might have been more valuable.
It smacks of a lack of confidence in your tail, and frustration at performing badly.
The headlines should have been "Clarke Declares he has No Faith in his Batsmen".
Positive and Innovative move yes, but Logical and Intelligent, No.

Would Clarke have been so "Positive and Innovative" if he was on 99 Not Out with 3 overs to go?

Well thats the end of Sehwag's career. He will be out and Gambhir will be back in for 3rd and 4th test unless Sehwag scores a double century next innings :rolleyes

Not even Pattinson can get the ball bouncing through to the keeper now. Another hour or two of India going at 1.5 rpo and this deck will be completely dead. Might need to bring in some neutral English curators to give this series some life.

Is Pattinson Lord of Bounce?:rolleyes

Very ordinary running so far this innings by Pujara. Hope Pujara does not learn the wrong things from Dravid and Laxman (Dravid was a decent runner but still he used to be ordinary many a time, esp. in the latter part of his career).

No need. Should bring in Shikar Dhawan in the XI. Gambhir coming in might not let Dhawan play in the XI. Its time to wrap up Sehwag's test career. I was worried that Sehwag might sit on that plane to South Africa by scoring runs on Indian tracks. But the good news is, he is failing on even these wickets now.

India should probably bring in Tiwary for Sehwag, and have Dhawan open the innings.

Vijay should not lose his brain now, and he should now play India through to lunch. Clarke will definitely bowl his spinners in an attempt to lure the Indian batsmen out of their crease.

Is Dhawan even good? Always thought Mukund was the #1 left-hand bat in terms of openers in India, whatever, anyone but Sehwag will do.

I would pick Mukund but if he is selected the North Indians will be up in arms again with that stupid CSK theory.

Formwise, he is by far, better than the likes of Murali Vijay who is in the team for no apparent reason. CSK?

I don't know about form and what not, but in terms of FC records, Vijay has him beat, not by a whole lot though...
