Australia's tour of United Arab Emirates v Pakistan - October 2014

That Johnson LBW review is why the DRS makes no sense.

The ball is clearly hitting the stumps, and a substantial part of the stumps at that, and yet just because the Umpire originally ruled N.o., N.o. stands. Can you not see the ball hitting the stumps ppl !? Does the ICC really think that unless half the ball is hititng the stumps the bails would not dislodge or something?

Had the umpire given it out, like he really should have, Johnson would have been on his way. The Umpire's call thing makes most LBW reviews absolute nonsense.

Depending on the Ump's call, the ball can be hitting the stumps in the same place, and yet sometimes it can be out and sometimes not out !!
Cant blame DRS much.If it was not there still the problem would have been the same and decision would have been Not Out.I support DRS because having something to respond is better than nothing anyhow.
Although I agrees with you on some changes to be made on the LBW issue.

If the ball is hitting the stumps it should be given out...if the machine is accurate enough to tell if exactly half the ball is hitting, it should be accurate enough to tell if any of the ball is.

This is pretty impressive performance from this inexperienced Pakistani bowling attack. Australia are still shit against spin, looks like David Warner is the only one who has improved his game. Younis Khan is also making PCB look like a bunch of idiots for dropping him from ODI's.

Lets remember people, Australia have just won 1 test in Asia in the past 7 years and have lost 5 on the trot. This barring some extraordinary resistance will be another to the stat. This is an alarming run for a quality side.

However, in Australia Ind will still struggle. Even on a road wicket Australia were on top for most of day 1. It was just magnificent Pakistan batting that helped turn the tide, with 5 middle order batsmen scoring more than 50.

In Australia the wickets won't be roads, which will then start helping the spinners. Thats fine, and it should be like that. Aus will and should prepare pitches that Indian batsmen will hate, and that will be bouncy pitches which will offer seam movement. A tinge of green as well. I don't see India being able to cope with their attack. A tough series should ensue, but one that will then perhaps help the Ind side a year later in the WC.

Spin problems not something that gets fixed quickly. We need more like Smith who are comfortable playing spin.
Warner , Smith and Clarke <3 others are shite against spin :(

Whoa! Seems like another humiliating defeat for Australia in Asian conditions. While the subcontinental sides are much maligned for their overseas failures, lets take a look at Australia for a second.
2008: 2-0 loss to India
2010: 2-0 loss to India
2013: 4-0 in India

Thats 10 tests without a win in India. Now, Pakistan have totally outclassed them yet again. Left arm spin in particular seems to be an issue for them. They struggled against the straight up and down stuff from Jadeja and now Zulfiqar has their number as well. Australia might have had that 5-0 Ashes win in between but on either side of that win they have had been whitewashed in India 4-0, lost to England 3-0 and now struggling against Pakistan. I predict Pakistan to whitewash them in this series as well.

Johnson was not out there. How can the third umpire justify that decision?

Yup we were outplayed :) Spin you Know

lol of course, a team that hasn't lost a Test series in the UAE in 12 years are obviously easy to beat!

Beating Australia has always been considered a great achievement by Pakistanis. But to do this with such an inexperienced bowling unit (international experience) is quite remarkable. I have always believed that ouster of Ajmal is the shot in the arm misbah needed. He depended too much on Ajmal. This fact can be verified by the amount of over he made Ajmal bowl. Rest of the bowling was mostly ignored and revolved around Ajmal. Misbah also never used to think much with Ajmal in the field. It was too uni-dimensional. The worst affected were our quicks who were used primarily to rub the shine off the new ball.
With no Ajmal to bank on, Misbah had to think more and use other option intelligently. This is where our bowlers repaid the faith and bamboozled the Aussies with class spin bowling. I was especially impressed with the control of Yasir and variety of Babar.
The match was however beautifully setup by our batsmen for a change. Sarfaraz has come of age and this has been the oomph factor Pakistan needed to perform as a batting unit. Younis has always been class but he outdid himself here. I am so happy for him to be finally recognized among the greats of Pakistan cricket.

No doubt AUS have some bad issues vs spin. As i always say all the hard work the 95-2006/07 glory era team did to improve AUS play vs spin has been vanquished in recent years. The team needs to go back to drawing board.

I wont include the 3-0 ENG whitewash when assessing this current AUS, because this potential "new era" AUS under Clarke began with the 5-0 ashes whitewash. Anything between the 2009 to 2013 in ENG ashes results for AUS is a period by itself, that represents the darkest time in AUS cricket since the mid 1980s.

Fact is though historically the failing of non-asian teams in Asia is not as detrimental to players careers like when asia teams fail in fast bowler friendly places in AUS/ENG/SA/WI/NZ.

Many non asia bats had very successful careers even if they had deficiencies versus spin. But their is no example in cricket history of a batsman being dropped after struggling vs quality spin.

However many batsman who couldn't play fast bowling get dropped very fast.

However many batsman who couldn't play fast bowling get dropped very fast.

reason being that spin is not dangerous or deficiency against spin is not a big enough flaw but the fact is you are never stuck with spin.

IND overseas stretch _ SA,NZ,ENG,AUS

AUS : ENG SA PAK then back to home stretch with india, so any out of form batsman will jump back to form.

when is the last time aus or england had a overseas stretch in spin friendly conditions.

It also doesnt help that SL or PAK dont get as many tests as they can like the big 3.

so if you are found aginst spin in a series you can always come back to form in the next series which will be in pace assisting conditions.

where as if you have problem against pace you are stuck to it in a lot more places than just SC conditions.

ideally i would like to see aus and have similar overseas stretches were they play a bunch of SC tests IND,SL, UAE etc like india plays on faster conditions.

and then see how they fare, if batsman with poor technique against spin or still undroppable
