Chappell wants Ganguly out

thats the record of the most successful indian captain mate..if u find tht stat dismal, thats the way indian cricket is..u cant blame one guy for the shortcomings of an entire team...

i am not trying to say that sourav is an excellent batsman or captain, but its just that appalling that evryone is suddenly against him cuz u've got a new foreign coach who has seen no success as a coach before...

u r just letting down a proven indian cricketer for a newbie in the indian cricketing scene..

if sourav is mentally and physically unfit for international cricket,i think that has to be decided by the board and a group of past and present indian cricketers and not by one man who is just into the team...
My point is about batting form being more related to the success of the team than captaincy decisions.

"I don't think the entire team should be dragged into this," Ganguly said on Saturday after the team's return from Zimbabwe where his side won 2-0 to post their first Test series win outside the sub-continent since 1986. "It was some statement made by the coach. It is between the coach and me and we have to sort it out. I do not think the rest of the boys need to be pulled into this. For us, it was important winning the two Tests and we won them convincingly."

Please do remind me, who was it who brought the spat to public scrutiny in the first place?

Ganguly WAS a very good captain. The last final we went to was only because the 3rd team was zimbabwe.

And we have only gotten to tournament finals. We have won only 1 under his captaincy (Could have been two, but rain was the winner in champs trophy final). People may not have noticed, but Ganguly was not as good a cricketer as he was when he first took over as captain. He used to score 50s very consistently. After some time india were very much dependent on Sehwag and Tendulkar because for a while after that historic Natwest Series Chase, Yuvraj and Kaif just werent clicking.

Now nothing seemd to be clicking so everyone notices Ganguly. If Sachin comes back soon to make a real impact for the team, then Ganguly must go for sure. Kaif and Yuvraj are too good to be wasted in the dressing room. They need to get some playing time. Calcutta may not be very happy, but I sure hope the rest of the nation wants Ganguly gone.

There always has been a cloud under Ganguly's captaincy. When they last toured Aus the commentators were calling for him to be sacked and Dravid take over.

but India`s tour to Australia in 2003 was quite a successful one (far more successful than any other team to have toured Aus in recent years)

The last time anyteam beat Australia in Australia was the West Indies way back in 1993. In 2003 India outplayed the aussies in the series and came close to winning the series, Ganguly acheived what not many captains had.

Why do they burn effigies of Chappell?

A bit extreme isn't it?
They're always burning effigies of stuff.

I really don't think Ganguly deserves so much credit. This was a series in which only one bowler; Anil Kumble; had even remotely acceptable figures for the series. It was clearly a war of batting and leviathan efforts from Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman were of far greater importance.

Obviously he didn't do much wrong, but when such a favourable circumstance falls into your lap (a series of glassy flat batting wickets and a bowling attack decimated by injury and suspension) he should really have done no worse.

any one wondering why no other Indian captain was so LUCKY!!!..

Ganguly has surely had a good share of luck going with him! The Australian series was lucky on him that the team was at a peak. Yes, we salute him for that 144 in Brisbane where he overcame a slump to score that marathon century. But then? It was more of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Anil Kumble who won the series for India! When the final test came and the chance came to make history and win the series, Ganguly failed it for us. He declared too late after India had scored some 700 or so leaving little time for the bowlers to bowl Australia out twice! Australia batted well in their first innings and then Steve Waugh came in and took them to safety on the last day much to the delight of their fans!

Kapil Dev was "lucky" enough to draw a tour of Australia, as was Sunil Gavaskar. They weren't exactly carting around Tendulkars and Dravids with them either.

Harbhajan supports Ganguly and has 'slammed' Chappell (ndtv.com).
This controversy doesn't seem like it'll be swept away easily.

For those who have not read it:

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/220105.html

He is a waste! He has always been Ganguly's favorite!

The team's discpline has gone for a total toss! Who gave the rights to Harbhajan to speak to the media on this issue? Indiscpline is prevailing a lot now in the team! Sehwag speaks unnecessary stuff to the media that Ganguly is the best captain around just when Ganguly gets captaincy back from Dravid, etc.

Nasser Hussain was crap and never scord many runs for England when he was captain.
Michael Vaughan hasnt made many big scores since being captain for England but has made good tactical decisions to win us the Ashes back so we dont bother criticising him.
P.S: sohummisra, someones taken your Boredmeeting title off u, go get it back LOL.

Very true, nasser was not a good batsmen. In odis he always struggled and he did'nt get england to many victories when he was captain, he played good agiasnt the weak countires and he played crap agiasnt the good countires.
