I hope this season, Chennai can give more chances to the other fringe Tamil Nadu players and develop them so that they can play for India. Players like Abhinav Mukund, Yo Mahesh, Sudeep Tyagi, Ganapathy Vignesh should get their chances so that they can start blossoming. With Hussey not playing for the first 7 odd games, Mukund should get his chance to open the innings with Vijay.

I dont mind if Chennai dont win this IPL. It is more exciting to the tournament. It would discourage other teams if CSK wins it again. And the viewers too!:D

Mukund and Faf would have a go this season. But I'm not sure about others getting a chance.

This would be an ideal XI for CSK initially (till Hussey comes back in). Once Hussey comes, Mukund and Faf go out, and they should bring in either Jakati or Yo Mahesh or Sudeep Tyagi.

Abhinav Mukund
Murali Vijay
Suresh Raina
Subramanian Badrinath
MS Dhoni
Dwayne Bravo
Albie Morkel
Faf Du Plessis
R Jadeja
R Ashwin
Doug Bollinger

This XI has 6 bowlers with 5 specialist ones. Our allrounder count is just pretty big, with even Ashwin able to bat.

Just remove Bravo, I hate that guy with both bat and ball.

Bravo is a great utility cricketer. Did you see his innings in the last IPL where he won the match for us in the end (dont remember which one it was)? He is also a livewire fielder, and a useful bowler who can keep the runs down at times and pick wickets too. I would definitely want Bravo to play just for his fielding and batting.

I am not sure how Mukund will come up in T20's. So this would be my line up:

Murli Vijay
Albie Morkel
Suresh Raina
Badrinath
Dhoni
Dwayne Bravo
Ravindra Jadeja
Vignesh (I think he did decent in ICL to get a chance and he is an all rounder)
Ravi Ashwin
Doug Bolinger
Sudeep Tyagi

Yeah, Bravo's fielding is just great. He swims in air. :thumbs

Just give Mukund a chance. I am sure he'll do well.
I miss Southee this season. Last season we won a match because of his last over.

Thats too big a risk to push Morkel to the opening spot. Mukund is not a bad bet. He is a specialist opener, and a technically sound batsman. And on Indian wickets, he should be all the more comfortable scoring runs. And he is a great fielder too. If guys like Dravid, Pujara, Clarke, etc can play T20 cricket, why not Mukund? We havent seen Mukund in T20's to pass judgement on his game.

The match in which Dhoni's wife was too animated in the crowd and over-reacted after every delivery, right?

I would go with -

Murali Vijay
Michael Hussey
Suresh Raina
MS Dhoni
S Badrinath
Albie Morkel
Ravi Jadeja
R Ashwin
S. Jakati
Dougie Bollinger
Hilfenhaus

I'm actually liking our squad this year. We have a really balanced set of overseas players. Hilfy, Bollinger, Kulusekera are all handy seam bowlers, something that we have really lacked in previous seasons. Our strength has always been in spin bowling and we all know how MSD loves to shuffle through all the twirlers in the squad. We remain strong there with Ashwin, Jakati, Randiv, Raina, and Jadeja as options.

Batting is strong too - Hussey is in great form, we have firepower in guys like Bravo and Morkel, and we even got the Australian captain in George Bailey. Add explosive Indian talent like Raina, MSD, and old guards like Badrinath and we have probably one of the most balanced teams in the IPL. Not as much star power as maybe RCB or MI, but strong nonetheless.

Just saw that Mukund twisted his ankle and he will be out for 10 days... The issue here is Faf, Albie, Bravo and Bailey are coming in on April 3.. Wondering whether they would be ready for April 4.. Assuming that they would be ready, and the fact that you don't have to play 4 international players,

Vijay, Anirudha, Raina, Badri, MSD, Saha, Jadeja, Bravo, Albie, Ashwin, Dougy

May be Faf or Bailey instead of Saha in this lineup would work too.

Oh damn it!! Mukund might have lost his opportunity to play some games and impress with some good performances. Unlucky for him! Anirudha should then open in place of Hussey. I agree with Rohit (Cricketman) regarding a third spinner. For a Chennai wicket, having four seamers in the attack with only two spinners is unnecessary. We can do good with three seamers, and play Faf who is a spinner and also an allrounder.

Vijay
Anirudha
Raina
Dhoni
Badrinath
Morkel
Faf Du Plessis
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bollinger
