Draft time: World Cup history - ALL FINISHED!!

Maybe a discussion about whose team is better:p

----------

Smurf, you can send you pick by PM to the guy whose turn is next. So you'll get your pick too and nothing would be delayed

Well the other thing you can do is if you think you can't make the time limit, then I'd suggest thinking about who you want and sending the names you want in order of preference to the guy who picks AFTER you.

As for what happens after? Hmm, well we argue petulantly about who's team is better, maybe have a poll for other forum goers to vote. One draft I was in tried to have some kind of stat based simulation done so the teams could actually play each other. That sounded like a great idea, but very hard to set up I think, but then again I don't know anything about those sim things.

----------

Haha well done angry :p

Nah, it's fine. For one thing, I dont know what round we'd be in potentially and lastly I like to see the picks before me before I make my final judgement :thumbs

Whoa, I didn't know that such simulators existed. Would be awesome if anyone here knew how to do it :D

This is a great idea. I can do the sim on the cricket coach 2010 or cricsim. But to do that i need the draft to finish quickly as i got just 11 days of my vacation left :noway. Wont be able to do the simulations once i'm at uni.

^ Terrific player, was hoping he was left till my chance comes but he's too good to be ignored by others :p Really instrumental in Sri Lanka's success in the 96 World cup.

Bleh.. I'll have to pick last all the best would go by then :facepalm

Don't worry, there is still one player left who i think will be ignored by most...

;)

Lasith Malinga

We all know how dangerous Malinga can be with his slingy action, and his yorkers are unplayable at times. This was the case at the 2007 world cup where he took teams apart. One of those cases was a match against South Africa, just when South Africa looked set to win with only 4 needed of 5 overs and 5 wickets in hand; incame malinga to demolish the South Africans, he picked up 4 wickets in 4 balls and almost stole the game from them.

He ended up the 5th highest wicket taker for Sri Lanka in a world cup dominated by the Australians. Playing 8 matches for 18 wickets at an average of 15.77, economy of 4.86 and a strike rate of 19.4.

Arjuna Ranatunga

The man is a legend in Lankan cricket history. He led the perpetual underdogs of the 1996 WC to a remarkable WC win. A belligerent leader, he transformed the SL team from under-acheieving minnows to one of the finest teams in world-class cricket.

He is also a WC veteran - having taken part in 6 WCs - the 1983, 1987, 1992, 1996 and the 1999 WC. So, definitley an experienced campaigner, whose calming influence will be vital in the middle-order of the Papa XI.

So, what about his personal stats? In a whopping run of 30 WC matches - he's scored a 969 runs at an of average of 46 while maintaining a SR of above 80!!

It's a shame he's never managed to score a century, but that's ok as he's somewhat of a 2nd innings maestro - like Laxman in tests. From his 7 50's in WC - 5 of them have come chasing. Most of his runs have come during chases - he's scored 727 runs at an average above 50 with a SR of above 80. Again, wow! It should come as no surprise then that he scored the winning run in 96 final.

He can also bowl some part time seamers - so is an excellent 6th/7th bowling option.

For his outstanding captaincy and his remarkable calmness in pressure situations during tight chases, Arjuna Ranatunga makes my WC XI with WC stats of:

Matches: 30
Runs: 969
Average: 46.14
SR: 80.95
Top-Score: 88*
100's/50's: 0/7

4) Z Abbas
5) A Ranatunga

10) D Patel

Nice pick... I remembered that match. Proteas almost choked there. :p

Nice pick in Malinga rizzy :thumbs I was going to choose him above Ranatunga as I need a lethal seamer, especially one who is deadly at the death.

Hmm, yes I think so. Please try and be a little quicker Zorax. You have 24hrs yes, but I'd rather that you didn't use it all. Must be that life that you don't have :lol :cheers

Shravi I know you mentioned you couldn't do 12hrs, but would anyone have a problem with 18hrs instead of 24? If no one has a problem I think we should switch to 18hrs for the Australia round onwards, just to keep things moving a little better. Remember too, that you don't lose your pick after the time limit, it's just the deadline when the people behind you can start picking.
I meant I don't apologize for having a life outside PC...

I prefer 24 hours tbh. I'm logging in whenever I can to make my picks. And I'll be flying in a couple of days so that'll make it a bit harder for me as well.

I choose the elegant Marvan Atapattu. He was a fantastic ODI batsman outside the World Cup as well but his World Cup record is just phenomenal. He was a fighter and one of the finest batsmen Sri Lanka has produced. In 15 World Cup innings he scored 521 runs at an average of 43 with 2 centuries and 3 fifties at a strike rate of 79. I think that he could strike an invaluable partnership with Turner to get me off to steady starts to set up a good platform for my middle order batsmen.

Can you name me any other left-armer who could swing the ball both ways, and at pace? Although, Davidson wasn't as quick as Akram, but still pretty lively.
A bit late, but 'swing the ball both, and at pace' is quite a bit different from 'bring the ball back into righties' :p

Lol, I know. I worded it wrong, as I thought since I was talking about Akram and Davidson, it was implied :p

Nice pick in Malinga rizzy I was going to choose him above Ranatunga as I need a lethal seamer, especially one who is deadly at the death.

would've been the other way round for me, but i needed a fast bowler and Malinga was perfect.
