England v India, 6th ODI, The Oval
England to gamble on selection

The Preview by Siddhartha Vaidyanathan at The Oval
September 4, 2007

England look to change things ahead of a possible series defeat in the 6th ODI at The Oval tomorrow. Both James Anderson and Luke Wright have sat out all five of the matches in the series so far but are ready to make an impact following two straight defeats.

Stuart Broad and Dimitri Mascarenhas are the most likely to make way, neither players having a great impact with the ball in the previous two ODI's. Wright may be given the chance to open with Prior dropping down the order. He has averaged just 18.2 in the five games played having not made it past 30 all series.

India are unlikely to change anything after a very comfortable performance saw them cruise to victory with 13 balls and 6 wickets remaining, despite the completion of a two match suspension for Harbhajan Singh and Sourav Ganguly. There has been little news from the Indian camp regarding their situation, but that does not rule out a return for either of them. India will clinch the series with a game to spare if they win at The Oval tomorrow.

England (Likely) 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Luke Wright, 3 Ian Bell, 4 Kevin Pietersen, 5 Owais Shah, 6 Paul Collingwood (capt), 7 Matt Prior (wk), 8 Andrew Flintoff, 9 James Anderson, 10 Chris Tremlett, 11 Monty Panesar.

India (Likely) 1 Robin Uthappa, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Gautam Gambhir, 4 Rahul Dravid (capt), 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 Ramesh Powar, 9 Piyush Chawla, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Rudra Pradap Singh.

Interesting plan by the English. Wright and Anderson are aggresive options and these are likely to make a difference. Particularly keen to see how Lumb-Wright opening goes, as they are both stroke players in nature. I somehow see this English team have the edge over the Indians.

I was using Sohum's PlanetCricket Cricket Simulator. You can check it out in the cricsim forum section.

Good to see you back Arslaan. How have you been?

Rain!!!! :( Both sides look strong and we should see a good game of cricket. Hope play starts soon so that the match can have 50 overs per side.

Good presentation as usual Treva. :)

Great graphics Treva, I loved the SkySports presentation of the lineups looks damn real. KIU mate. :hpraise

I can't believe you're still doing this story Trev, this is ancient!

Presentation is absolutely quality as always. Shame about the rain but hopefully it dries up quickly and we can have a game of cricket.

England v India, 6th ODI, The Oval
Rain reduces match to 35 overs

The Bulletin by Anand Vasu
September 5, 2007

Rain at The Oval has forced the 6th One Day International between England and India to be reduced to 35 overs a side in a game both sides want to achieve a result. The covers stayed on all morning as the dark skies continued to fill the air with rain, but come the afternoon a strong breeze forced the rain south and the skies began to clear.

This forced the ground staff into motion as they looked to clear up to sodden ground and ensure a game would be played. An inspection at 1:25 PM saw the umpires announce a 35 over game would be achievable and that play would start at 1:45 PM.

There will be 15 overs of Powerplay compared to the usual 20, and each bowler will be allowed to bowl 7 overs each. The toss was completed immediately after the announcement that play would begin, with Paul Collingwood deciding that India should have a bat first on a pitch that should provide plenty of sideways movement.

England's team provided no shocks, with James Anderson and Luke Wright coming in to replace Stuart Broad and Dimitri Mascarenhas. However, India decided to bring back previously suspended Sourav Ganguly to the side, leaving out Gautam Gambhir. This poses the question as to why Harbhajan Singh was not brought back in having also completed a two match suspension for his bust up with Ganguly. Gambhir will feel aggrieved to have been left out, having only played his first match of the tour in the 5th ODI.

You really need a time machine Jack to get this story up to date :p Then again I massively rate Mascarenhas just cause he looks like a pirate so don't mind seeing a story with him in it (even if he isn't playing this match) :laugh

Interesting team news. The Indian batting looks pretty strong but the bowling doesnt. Need a big innings from KP.
Poor Harbhajan, he should pick his fights carefully.
